[Open] November log
WHO: Link and you!
WHERE: Temba, Sh'Ka, the Beach
WHAT: Link attempts to celebrate 'Halloween', searches for things Dustin left behind, and attempts to build a raft.
WHEN: Somewhere during November
WARNINGS: None so far
i. Treat or Treat?
One evening, as the people of Temba and Sh'Ka reside in their homes - wherever that may be - many will find that they suddenly have a pointy eared visitor. He hasn't bothered to knock, or make his presence known before entering. He's just walked - or climbed - right in without any hesitation.
Once inside, he'll find you. And then he'll hold out his hands a small package filled with small cakes, honeyed fruits, and candies.
"Treat," he says, as he presses the package towards you.
Link may have gotten a few of the details about how 'Halloween' was meant to work a little wrong. And also the date.
ii. Mementos from Dustin (cue Get Item sound effect)
Link missed Dustin.
The other teen had been grumpy. Constantly irritable. Downright unfriendly really, most of the time. And yet...Link had still liked him. He'd been a friend, even if Link doubted Dustin would ever admit that.
But Dustin was gone now. Link wasn't sure where. But Link felt...compelled, to try and do something to look after what Dustin left behind.
Most of it was under rubble. But Link was stubborn enough to shift all the debris and rubble that was once Dustin's workshop, and search some of Dustin's other hiding places. Not that Dustin had told Link where his hiding places were. But Link spent a lot of time climbing up the sides of buildings. You could see a lot, that way.
Eventually, Link's luck and stubbornness pays off. From within the rubble, he pulls free his prize - a large sack. Reaching inside, he pulls forth an exiting find - large volcanic rocks, and clippings from plants. He holds one of the rocks, making a soft noise of appreciation as he admires it's shiny surface. Treasure!
iii. Get the duct tape, we're building a raft
One day, while at the beach, Link looked out at the ocean. Looked at those islands, just barely visible off in the distance. And wondered, what's over there?
And of course, now that he'd wondered, he just had to find out.
Over a few days, Link could be seen pulling all sorts of things to the beach. Logs from trees he'd chopped down with the Master Sword when Zelda wasn't looking. Rope he's scrounged up. Large, massive leaves from the greenhouse.
When he starts using the rope to tie everything together, it won't be difficult at all for an observer to tell what Link's building: a raft.
[[ooc note: If you'd like your character to explore the islands with Link, feel free to have them express IC interest here! Alternatively, you can just let me know oocly that you'd like to get involved - PM, discord and plurk are all good. Once I know who's in and have the info from the mods, I'll put up a separate log for the actual exploration.]]

"Islands?" Sonic takes a second to look out across the water, sure enough there's some islands out on the horizon.
"Well, what d'ya know! I never noticed them before, guess I musta been distracted exploring the mainland! And, y'know, distracted by all the other, more horrible things."
no subject
“The raft is so I can go look,” he explains. Link’s not a Zora, after all. He can swim pretty far, but not that far.
no subject
Sonic turns his attention to what Link's working on, but looks maybe a little unsure about Link's preferred method of transportation? It's probably going to be a perfectly sturdy raft, he's just paranoid because he can't swim.
"Can something like that really make it all the way out there?"
no subject
“A raft got me to Eventide Island.” Although, admittedly, he hadn’t made that raft. He’d just…found it. Reappropriated it. Crashed it against the island’s rocks before waking up without all his weapons and clothes and belongings.
But you know. It still got him there. Eventually.
no subject
"Hmm..."
Sonic squints back out over the water again, coming to the conclusion that he could most likely make it to the island on foot, so long as the water wasn't too choppy and he went fast enough. Speed might be an issue just due to how hard he's been on his leg lately, but it's probably fine.
Anyway, he turns back to Link once he's done with his speed math.
"Lookin' for anyone to go with? I know I sure could use a change of scenery."
no subject
"Sure," he says, as he picks up another log. This one's thinner, less sturdy than the others - which is why he instead fixes it at a right angle to the others, right in the middle. This log, evidently, is going to be the mast.
no subject
You've just made his day, Link. Get him the hell out of here he needs an ADVENTURE.
no subject
He's...actually not sure. He's used to being the one helping, not the one who's helped. He doesn't doubt that Sonic could help. He just...can't think how.
In the end, he has to give up.
"I don't know?"
no subject
"How about this, then. Any supplies you think we'd need? I can gather stuff up while you work on that."
no subject
"...Food?" he says, thinking about it. Ideally there's be food on the island he could hunt...but perhaps he couldn't count on that. "Flint for fire?"
no subject
"I think I can handle that." He had no idea where he'd get flint, but that's wheat the replicator is for. Totally not cheating!.
"When were you planning on heading out?"
no subject
As for the next question, he shrugs…and gives another not very helpful answer. “When the raft is finished.”
no subject
And maybe he'll give Eggman a shout to see if he wants to toss one of his goofy surveillance bots on an island? Who knows, might be a good idea to have eyes on it at all times.
Small timeskip here good with you?
And when Sonic runs off, Link gets back to work. By the time Sonic comes back, he’ll fins the hat Link has made progress. A lot of progress.
In fact, the raft is now out on the water. Link stands on top, with a massive leaf in his hands. He swings it forward, trying to use it to blow gusts of wind at the sails.
It is, unfortunately, not as good at it as a korok leaf.
small timeskip here is EXCELLENT with me
"Hey! Sorry if I kept you waiting! I had to make a quick stop in Sh'ka."
no subject
He swings the big leaf again, this time trying to blow it back towards shore. Sonic's going to need to get on, after all.
no subject
It's not weird, don't worry about it.
As Link starts trying to blow the raft back towards the beach, Sonic starts looking maybe a little less enthusiastic about the idea of riding this thing all the way to the island. Getting cold feet? Pretty uncool.
"Sooo... Seems like this trip'll take a while, huh?"
no subject
He shifts the giant leaf in his hands, glancing at it ruefully.
"Not as good as korok leafs," he admits.
no subject
"Hey, so, you ever heard of a speedboat?"
no subject
no subject
Sonic tosses the bags onto the raft and hops on himself, setting the robot monkey down next to the mast, where it latches on.
"You'll wanna hold onto the bags. And to the raft."
no subject
And then he waits, for...whatever's about to happen.
no subject
Aaaand double hopefully the raft is really well built, because Sonic isn't going super easy on it.
no subject
Sonic can't see it, but Link's eyes are wide open - and shining. The wind is blowing his hair all over his face, and they're moving across the ocean like they're flying. It's amazing.
It's like sand-seal surfing...but better!
no subject
Unfortunately he hadn't considered the temperature of the water before hopping in. It doesn't slow him down though, if anything it prompts him to close the distance faster. Before long he's slowing down so that he doesn't just smash the raft into the beach, and then he hops on while the raft comes to a stop on the sand.
"Aaaand, there we go! Beats waving a leaf around, huh?"
He's trying to sound kind of smug, but it falls short with how much he's shivering. Good job Sonic you're an idiot.
