[Open] November log
WHO: Link and you!
WHERE: Temba, Sh'Ka, the Beach
WHAT: Link attempts to celebrate 'Halloween', searches for things Dustin left behind, and attempts to build a raft.
WHEN: Somewhere during November
WARNINGS: None so far
i. Treat or Treat?
One evening, as the people of Temba and Sh'Ka reside in their homes - wherever that may be - many will find that they suddenly have a pointy eared visitor. He hasn't bothered to knock, or make his presence known before entering. He's just walked - or climbed - right in without any hesitation.
Once inside, he'll find you. And then he'll hold out his hands a small package filled with small cakes, honeyed fruits, and candies.
"Treat," he says, as he presses the package towards you.
Link may have gotten a few of the details about how 'Halloween' was meant to work a little wrong. And also the date.
ii. Mementos from Dustin (cue Get Item sound effect)
Link missed Dustin.
The other teen had been grumpy. Constantly irritable. Downright unfriendly really, most of the time. And yet...Link had still liked him. He'd been a friend, even if Link doubted Dustin would ever admit that.
But Dustin was gone now. Link wasn't sure where. But Link felt...compelled, to try and do something to look after what Dustin left behind.
Most of it was under rubble. But Link was stubborn enough to shift all the debris and rubble that was once Dustin's workshop, and search some of Dustin's other hiding places. Not that Dustin had told Link where his hiding places were. But Link spent a lot of time climbing up the sides of buildings. You could see a lot, that way.
Eventually, Link's luck and stubbornness pays off. From within the rubble, he pulls free his prize - a large sack. Reaching inside, he pulls forth an exiting find - large volcanic rocks, and clippings from plants. He holds one of the rocks, making a soft noise of appreciation as he admires it's shiny surface. Treasure!
iii. Get the duct tape, we're building a raft
One day, while at the beach, Link looked out at the ocean. Looked at those islands, just barely visible off in the distance. And wondered, what's over there?
And of course, now that he'd wondered, he just had to find out.
Over a few days, Link could be seen pulling all sorts of things to the beach. Logs from trees he'd chopped down with the Master Sword when Zelda wasn't looking. Rope he's scrounged up. Large, massive leaves from the greenhouse.
When he starts using the rope to tie everything together, it won't be difficult at all for an observer to tell what Link's building: a raft.
[[ooc note: If you'd like your character to explore the islands with Link, feel free to have them express IC interest here! Alternatively, you can just let me know oocly that you'd like to get involved - PM, discord and plurk are all good. Once I know who's in and have the info from the mods, I'll put up a separate log for the actual exploration.]]

"It does talk!" he whispers to Sonic with amazement. Then, louder so the...thing?...can hear him clearly, he says. "...Hi!"
And gives it a little wave. You know, to show he's friendly. Even though he tried to chase it down earlier.
no subject
And it's only kind of talking now? Well, might as well see how this plays out. He'll just wait and see how the little dude reacts to Link before deciding how to approach this from here.
no subject
"Hi," the scratchy, parrot-like noise comes. And then, as if trying out other noises it liked. "Before."
no subject
Link loves this thing.
And it was, clearly, imitating them. Which meant there was only one thing to do.
"She sells seashells by the seashore," he says.
no subject
weirdo
It's fine man do your thing, it's probably helping with the whole learning about the locals thing.
"It seems like it's just copying us? Kinda wish there was another around so we could see how they talk to each other."
no subject
Sonic is right. It is merely copying.
no subject
"She sells sea shells by the sea shore," he says, again, more forcefully this time.
no subject
Go on, tumbleweed, entertain them. Do tricks, say things!
no subject
“That wasn’t polite.”
Okay, that was definitely not mimicked.
no subject
"You do talk!" Wait until Zelda hears about this! He can't wait to tell her. "Hi!"
no subject
"Hey! We're sorry for buggin' you, we were just curious. Aaaand then got real weird on you, I bet."
no subject
"Strange animals that speak, you are. But chasing is wrong."
no subject
And chasing lizards, well. That wasn't wrong. At least not as far as Link was concerned. They were useful! And fun to collect!
no subject
Sonic has friends who are lizards, they wouldn't appreciate being chased either.
"So, maybe let's try this again. My name's Sonic, this is Link, what should we call you?"
no subject
AS for Sonic's question it tilts its head to consider.
"Sonic and Link cannot speak the name of this one," the creature says.
no subject
"A nickname?" Link suggests. Otherwise, they'd have to resort to going 'hey you'.
no subject
Does this thing even have a tongue like what are you man.
no subject
"This one's name is-"
And then of course there is a complex sound that is part rustling, part scraping, part wind in the leaves, and part groan. All at once.
no subject
So he says nothing, and just turns to look at Sonic with an air of expectation. Maybe Sonic can?
no subject
"...So, I'm thinking 'Timmy the Tumbleweed' might be a good alternative for those of us with tongues?"
no subject
Seems like it has opinions.
no subject
"You like exploring?" Link says, perking up. He is, after all, someone who also likes to wander.
no subject
If not it might make the whole wandering thing difficult?
no subject
So getting around wasn't a problem.
no subject
"We came on a raft," he says. Although they didn't really float, so much as...zoom along as Sonic pushed.
