WHAT: Link attempts to celebrate 'Halloween', searches for things Dustin left behind, and attempts to build a raft.

i. Treat or Treat?

One evening, as the people of Temba and Sh'Ka reside in their homes - wherever that may be - many will find that they suddenly have a pointy eared visitor. He hasn't bothered to knock, or make his presence known before entering. He's just walked - or climbed - right in without any hesitation.

Once inside, he'll find you. And then he'll hold out his hands a small package filled with small cakes, honeyed fruits, and candies.

"Treat," he says, as he presses the package towards you.

Link may have gotten a few of the details about how 'Halloween' was meant to work a little wrong. And also the date.


ii. Mementos from Dustin (cue Get Item sound effect)

Link missed Dustin.

The other teen had been grumpy. Constantly irritable. Downright unfriendly really, most of the time. And yet...Link had still liked him. He'd been a friend, even if Link doubted Dustin would ever admit that.

But Dustin was gone now. Link wasn't sure where. But Link felt...compelled, to try and do something to look after what Dustin left behind.

Most of it was under rubble. But Link was stubborn enough to shift all the debris and rubble that was once Dustin's workshop, and search some of Dustin's other hiding places. Not that Dustin had told Link where his hiding places were. But Link spent a lot of time climbing up the sides of buildings. You could see a lot, that way.

Eventually, Link's luck and stubbornness pays off. From within the rubble, he pulls free his prize - a large sack. Reaching inside, he pulls forth an exiting find - large volcanic rocks, and clippings from plants. He holds one of the rocks, making a soft noise of appreciation as he admires it's shiny surface. Treasure!


iii. Get the duct tape, we're building a raft

One day, while at the beach, Link looked out at the ocean. Looked at those islands, just barely visible off in the distance. And wondered, what's over there?

And of course, now that he'd wondered, he just had to find out.

Over a few days, Link could be seen pulling all sorts of things to the beach. Logs from trees he'd chopped down with the Master Sword when Zelda wasn't looking. Rope he's scrounged up. Large, massive leaves from the greenhouse.

When he starts using the rope to tie everything together, it won't be difficult at all for an observer to tell what Link's building: a raft.

Probably a good thing Link didn't give any suggestions, then. His would have been 'Twiggy'.

"You like exploring?" Link says, perking up. He is, after all, someone who also likes to wander.

"Speaking of exploring, are you even able to leave this island?"

If not it might make the whole wandering thing difficult?

"Exploring, knowing, is purpose," the creature says. "Learn all to learn of pattern of ocean," the creature says with a tilt of its head. "And yes, I can go away. Simple to float in the waves."

So getting around wasn't a problem.

Link nods, the explanation making sense to him.

"We came on a raft," he says. Although they didn't really float, so much as...zoom along as Sonic pushed.

"Sounds like you get around a lot. So you've seen the city over on the mainland? Well, I assume it's the mainland..."

For all he knows, Temba and Sh'ka could just be on a huge island? One of these days he's just gonna have to pick a direction and run just to see how far he can get.

Wanderer straightens a little, then tucks its head in. After that it rolls, slowly, down the wall again. Once down it uncurls completely. Congratulations. Enjoy looking at three legged and two armed walking mound of twigs.

"Show to me this raft? And concern for structures is not my journey."

Of course it has not been there.

"Could take you," Link says. And why not? Wanderer was an explorer. They should help it explore.

He starts to walk back the way they came, towards the beach where their raft landed.

Hell yeah they should help it explore! Exploring is some of Sonic's favorite shit, he gets it.

He has about half a million more questions for Wanderer, buuuut he'll save them for now. He doesn't want to be too annoying just yet. He'll at least save it for when they've made it to the raft.

With them guiding, Wanderer keeps up quite well, and quite eagerly. To see such things would be a wonder to it.

"Can you control the direction and movement of this 'raft'?"

"Sonic pushes," Link says. Which meant directing the raft was all up to him - at least until Link found himself a better leaf.

[spinsandneedles]

"Yeah, and when I'm pushing, I can take it wherever I want. I'm sure there's a 'correct' way to do it though, like with sails and wind and stuff?"

He doesn't know anything about how that works, though. He's not really a boat guy.

Well perhaps that would not be as useful for Wanderer then.

"Perhaps another can show more," Wanderer says as he follows. "You are very intelligent, for animals."

Link hums in agreement with Sonic. Yes, there's probably a better way to make it. He's sure someone like Tony could figure it out.

Soon enough, though, Link leads them back to the raft. Link gestures towards it - see, a raft! He made it himself.

"You want to come?" He asks Wanderer.

That's kind of a compliment. Sort of. Sonic chooses to take it as one.

"If you do, you'll wanna hold on tight."

Wanderer moves to the raft and circles it, looking at it from many angles until it touches the thing.

"This is made of wood?"

Link nods, and then starts to push the raft into the water.

Does Wanderer know what a nod means? Can it understand their gestures, as well as their language. Alas, these are questions that have not yet occurred to Link.

[spinsandneedles]

"Yeah... is that weird? I mean, you look like a little plant guy... We're kinda limited on resources out here. The people that dumped us on this planet didn't exactly leave us any boats."

Mmmm boy he sure does hope this twiggy little bud isn't super offended about people using trees to build stuff!

They may be pushing the raft into the water, but Wanderer does not board it.

"Interesting. Fallen or harvested from living wood?"

This question might be a dangerous one, but who could tell?

If the question was a dangerous one, then Link was probably about to breezily wander right into shark-infested waters.

"Both," he says, as the raft begins to float. He'd found a few dead trees he could use, but not enough for the whole raft.

He hopes onto the raft, and sits. Then looks at Wanderer. Will it be coming?

Sonic is on standby and ready to speedboat. Mmmm this shouldn't feel as awkward as it does but here we are!!!

Wanderer considers carefully and then shakes its head.

"You go, animals who speak. Raft not interesting if cannot control for own journey. But will make sure Wanderer journey comes to you soon."

Link makes a soft noise of understanding. Certainly, getting pushed around by Sonic at ludicrous speeds is a lot of fun. But there's also something to be said for choosing your own path, and Link can understand that.

He looks at Sonic. Since Wanderer isn't coming - time to go?

Sonic gives Link a little nod, but doesn't start motorboating off just yet. He turns his attention back to Wanderer for a moment first.

"Cool, we'll look forward to seein' you again! Maybe we'll be able to put our heads together and figure out a way to help you get around easier. Take it easy, bud!"

Unless Wanderer has any more twig stuff to discuss, Sonic's going to wave and then blast that boat back across the water.

Wanderer shakes what is more or less its head.

"Will not see you again. But Wanderer will see you."

But they are going, and Wanderer retreats back further onto the island.

Wait, Wanderer won't come say hi to them?

But Link has no time to express any disappointment, because now Sonic's zooming off with the raft again.

So as he clings on for dear life, he yells back.

"Bye!" he calls. "Please say hi!"
