[Open] November log
WHO: Link and you!
WHERE: Temba, Sh'Ka, the Beach
WHAT: Link attempts to celebrate 'Halloween', searches for things Dustin left behind, and attempts to build a raft.
WHEN: Somewhere during November
WARNINGS: None so far
i. Treat or Treat?
One evening, as the people of Temba and Sh'Ka reside in their homes - wherever that may be - many will find that they suddenly have a pointy eared visitor. He hasn't bothered to knock, or make his presence known before entering. He's just walked - or climbed - right in without any hesitation.
Once inside, he'll find you. And then he'll hold out his hands a small package filled with small cakes, honeyed fruits, and candies.
"Treat," he says, as he presses the package towards you.
Link may have gotten a few of the details about how 'Halloween' was meant to work a little wrong. And also the date.
ii. Mementos from Dustin (cue Get Item sound effect)
Link missed Dustin.
The other teen had been grumpy. Constantly irritable. Downright unfriendly really, most of the time. And yet...Link had still liked him. He'd been a friend, even if Link doubted Dustin would ever admit that.
But Dustin was gone now. Link wasn't sure where. But Link felt...compelled, to try and do something to look after what Dustin left behind.
Most of it was under rubble. But Link was stubborn enough to shift all the debris and rubble that was once Dustin's workshop, and search some of Dustin's other hiding places. Not that Dustin had told Link where his hiding places were. But Link spent a lot of time climbing up the sides of buildings. You could see a lot, that way.
Eventually, Link's luck and stubbornness pays off. From within the rubble, he pulls free his prize - a large sack. Reaching inside, he pulls forth an exiting find - large volcanic rocks, and clippings from plants. He holds one of the rocks, making a soft noise of appreciation as he admires it's shiny surface. Treasure!
iii. Get the duct tape, we're building a raft
One day, while at the beach, Link looked out at the ocean. Looked at those islands, just barely visible off in the distance. And wondered, what's over there?
And of course, now that he'd wondered, he just had to find out.
Over a few days, Link could be seen pulling all sorts of things to the beach. Logs from trees he'd chopped down with the Master Sword when Zelda wasn't looking. Rope he's scrounged up. Large, massive leaves from the greenhouse.
When he starts using the rope to tie everything together, it won't be difficult at all for an observer to tell what Link's building: a raft.
[[ooc note: If you'd like your character to explore the islands with Link, feel free to have them express IC interest here! Alternatively, you can just let me know oocly that you'd like to get involved - PM, discord and plurk are all good. Once I know who's in and have the info from the mods, I'll put up a separate log for the actual exploration.]]

He's glad, though, that Sonic won't leave him behind.
And hopefully, having to slow down for Link won't be too painful for Sonic. Especially since Link doesn't amble along - as they make their way inland, he runs. It might be nothing on Sonic's speed, but at least it's not a walk.
And it's not too long before they find something else. Elegant buildings, overgrown with moss and vines and tropical plants. Empty pools. Abandoned cabanas.
The chair wasn't a sign of a recent inhabitants - it was a sign of these long-abandoned ruins.
no subject
Gonna be hard to pick a tree now, though. There's a lot more to this island than can be seen from Temba, and Sonic can't hide his excitement over this recovery. He can, however, control it, and he refrains from charging off to run laps around the place in favor of holding the monkey's head up like a camera and looking all around with it.
"Oh man, check this place out! It looks like one of them fancy vacation towns!"
no subject
And then with a soft ”Hup!”, he jumps up through the window, landing inside.
no subject
Sonic follows, perching on the windowsill once Link is inside. Robomonkey gets to come too, Sonic sets it down next to him. It'll just stay here until Sonic can find it something to hang on.
"This place looks totally abandoned, though."
no subject
And like Hyrule Castle, and all the ruins back home. There was something oddly nostalgic, in a way, about looking through this place. But at least in Hyrule, there were still people. There were still villages and settlements that survived.
Here, there's...nothing.
no subject
I mean it would be kinda cool, though. Just also creepy.
"Kinda depressing in a way, isn't it? It's always weird seein' something this big being so empty."
I live! Just fell of the face of the earth for a little bit there, whoops
This was a place for people. But there weren't any, not here.
But Link didn't want to just...stand around, thinking about how everyone was gone. So he starts moving again, walking through the empty buildings and ruins.
it's that time of the year, man
"Yo, Link! Come check this out!" He at least waits until Link meets him at the corner before he moves to investigate what he's found. Seems to be a datapoint? But it's faint, kinda spooky.
no subject
But he perks up when Sonic spots something. A datapoint?
"Which one?" he says, running up to peer at it close. Is it one of the ones they already know? Or something else?
no subject
"I dunno," Sonic says, circling the datapoint before glancing up at Link. "I thnk the only way to find out would be to touch it? But it doesn't look like it's even working. I wonder if the Agrii used to dump people here, too."
no subject
He has, stubbornly, hung on to the Agriculture datapoint. He likes knowing the plants; it's not something he wants to give up. But when faced with this mystery, he doesn't hesitate.
His hand shoots out, reaching for the datapoint. Will it work? If it does, what it is?
But there's no response. He pulls his hand back, disappointed.
"...Not working," he confirms.
no subject
"Guess this whole place is out of juice. Maybe we can find a power generator somewhere? If not we can bring some of the tech guys with us next time we come here."
no subject
"...With more raft-surfing," he adds, with a glint in his eye. Because Link definitely won't be disappointment to have more reasons for Sonic to surf him - and some smart science people - around on the top of the ocean.
no subject
Y'know, in case Sonic gets his leg busted again.
"Should we move on? I don't think we're gonna learn much else by staring at a dead datapoint."
no subject
And he agrees, it's time to move on. So Link nods, and starts moving through the ruins again. This time, he starts heading further inward - towards parts of the place that are more heavily overgrown, where the plants and vines are reclaiming the land.
It's a bit odd, though. Because at once point he absentmindedly spots a tangle of twigs. But then he glances away, distracted by something else - and then when he looks back, the bundle of twigs seems to be in a different spot.
He pauses, a faint frown on his face. He could have sworn...wasn't that further to the left?
no subject
He pauses as well when he realizes something's caught Link's attention, but he'd totally missed the twig lump.
"What's up? You see somethin'?"
no subject
He stares forward, but nothing moves. Had it just been a trick if the eye?
“…Might have been the wind?” He says.
no subject
Sonic points at the the twiggy bundle, "you mean that? Maybe some little animal was just hiding in it?"
no subject
Of course, he immediately wonders - what kind of animal? Was it a lizard? A crab? A mouse? He wanted to know.
"Stay quiet," he whispers to Sonic. And then he crouches down, and begins to - slowly - make his way over to the bundle of twigs, as stealthy and silently as he can.
no subject
But he's also going to look the tumbleweed lookin' mass of twigs over, and then roll into a pointy ball himself. He's vibing with the tumbleweed, Link, don't worry about it.
no subject
no subject
He doesn't want to scare whatever animal is hiding in the twigs. Not until it's caught, anyway. So he stays completely, utterly still. Eyes averted slightly, so he's not staring directly at it - but still keeping in view.
And then, he waits. Will it calm down?
no subject
Sonic unballs, digs in his bag a bit and finds some SNACKS. Animals like food, if it's an animal maybe it'll appreciate some nuts and berries or something? While Link pauses, Sonic rolls a couple berries in the general direction of the twig thingy. More to the side of it than directly at it, he doesn't want to scare it off.
no subject
Clearly something was spooked. Neither of them probably expected it to be the tangle itself. Which seems to be heading straight for the nearest ruined structure.
no subject
It's not even a conscious choice; just the same instinct that comes into play when a crab starts running away from him on the beach.
Because if he stopped and thought about it, of course, he'd realise that running after it is pointless when Sonic is right there.
