Good day all. Spring seems to have come and I would like to do a minor recruitment. This is a good season for building, and if you wish to assist it would be appreciated.

First, I need help with making bricks, a good bit of them. I have supplies and instructions, and will happily accept takers who want to assist Mini with them. The good news is that it's quite possible to talk while doing it, so it can be a social thing if you wish.

Second, there's that hole at The Deep End that needs properly patched. I have the supplies, they were prepared this winter. I need assistants in moving them, and in patching. This one is potentially a touch more dangerous, so keep that in mind.

Finally, after what happened with the blizzard, I feel it is important for us to make emergency supply boxes and stock them. I would appreciate volunteers to help me construct, place, and fill the things. We'll need blankets, first aid supplies, non-perishable food, and of course means of starting fires or building temporary shelters.

Please respond with any potential interest you have. Forgive me if there are any delays in my response, I'm currently working on bricks with Mini.

Hey, I'd be happy to help. I might be the most useful with patching the hole, but I'm up for brick-making too. And I can probably supply food for the kits and instructions on making shelters.

So very helpful indeed. I suppose I can come by the diner with paper and we can start by having you writing out instructions. Not everyone here is very good with putting up shelter that gives them warmth and protection from the elements.

Sure! Yeah, back home I was part of building up a town. We had to have temporary shelters at first, until the homes were made.

It was an interesting experience. We were all glad to get the homes going up. They're mostly wood, since that's quicker than bricks. I did do bricks for my diner, though. I wanted that real sturdy.

Yes, part of why I'm doing bricks is because they are better for repairing situations like we have here. But I've been treating wood since last year for the work that calls for that as well.

I know a lot of places that they could be stored in safely for long term.
Can also build reusable fire-starting kits.

That is good to hear. I've plenty of wood for it. And that lady, Lark, stopped by and offered to bespell some cloth to line them to keep out bugs and moisture.

And fire-starting kits sound invaluable.

I guess as long as you're using that cured wood you've been storing that should work.
The kits are simple enough.
I have enough sparklers to make a dozen, roughly, depending on how I ration out the magnesium.
How many supply boxes do you plan to make?

You can turn sparklers into fire starters? Oh dear, I never even thought of that.

I do not know yet. I went them spread around the town, so people who aren't by the diner or other already prepared places can find shelter.

I wouldn't have expected you to think about it.
Otherwise you would've just done it yourself.

You'll want to place them roughly equidistant while avoiding oversaturation so that resources aren't wasted.
Take into account the worst possible conditions (the recent storm is a good benchmark) and average walking speed.
I'll need to run the numbers.

Yes, I'm disappointed it had not occurred to me before this. Of course I was used to working with teams who were also wonderfully thoughtful people.

And did you decide on where to keep them? Like what we can use as shelters?

At least a dozen, perhaps more. And I want to keep them in places that are secure but accessible. Not the hotel or diner though. Those places are supported on their own.

Makes sense. In a way, the shuttle hangars would be, too... though, the shuttles could always lose power, so I guess that wouldn't count as much. But that would be a good place to keep some of the packs.

I feel the hangars might not be a bad idea. The shuttles have no power when the storms come, so it's useful there too. I would hate to think people had been trapped there in the blizzard.
