Here and back again
WHO: Mando, TheChild™, open
WHERE: Fountain, around Tembra
WHAT: Arrival in the city
WHEN: Couple days before event start, cause let's give these guys a chance to settle in first
WARNINGS: Season 2 spoilers for kid's name and events, just to be safe. Will update if needed
Rude awakening - Closed to Grogu
Last thing Mando remembers, is him and the kid--no. it was Grogu now--aboard the Razor Crest, leaving the planet Corvus. They'd found a Jedi, Ahsoka Tano, who'd refused to train Grogu in the end. Insisting the kid was too attached to him. Mando had been a mix of both frustration and, oddly, relief. But she did give them a lead to the planet Tython, one more attempt to try and find a Jedi to train Grogu. A last chance to finish the quest. Or at least that's where they were SUPPOSED to be headed.
Mando didn't remember blacking out, but suddenly he's waking up to rough uneven ground underneath him, instead of the pilot seat of his ship. It's only a moment, before he becomes fully aware again with a start and quickly climbs to his feet. Pistol automatically drawn from it's holster, in the ready as his visored gaze took in his surroundings. Somewhere in the back of his mind, the ruined city looked familiar, but he couldn't place why. His gaze eventually fell on the orb, and he found himself drawn to it. Touching the surface with his free hand and the information, and memories, came flooding into his mind.
He stumbles back from it, free hand coming up to grasp at the helmet for a moment, as he shakes it to clear his head. Agra-10, this maker-forsaken planet and the damn Agrii. What the hell was he doing back here? Then he drops the hand, and looks up with a start.
"Kid?" Had Grogu come with him once again? He tried to keep calm, as he looked around frantically for a sign of the small green child.
Exploration - OTA
Eventually father and son will move out to take in the city and see what, or who, they can find. Mando has Grogu tucked in one arm, or if not, the kid might mot be too far away. Just expect a pistol drawn on you, if you startle Mando. He's tense and on alert. One of the stops is to the hangar, the fact that the First Breath refused to open for him making him frown under the helmet. Eventually finding that the Twin Roses and the Starduck open when they get near them. He tilts his helm to the side and down to look at the kid.
"Want to check them out?"
And being the mischievous kid he is, Grogu of course is prone to wandering off on his own to explore. Fortunately for the kid, Mando's usually not too far behind in looking for him.

He tilts his his helm at the offered name. Ben Kenobi. The name's not ringing any bells, then again he only just met him. "You know of my kind. You must be from our world." He nods in acknowledgement, finally moving again to walk closer.
"Most call me Mando." He answers, like it's normal not to give your actual name. "This is my friend." Din your kid has a name now. "...Grogu."
no subject
Ben Kenobi? Grogu's ears raise curiously, his eyes widening. He'd heard of a Kenobi, but it hadn't been Ben... the other certainly looked like a Jedi. He tried to focus, reaching out his mind towards the other to see if he had the Force.
Then, of course, Din says his name and breaks his concentration. He looks up with a small noise. Yes? You rang?
no subject
He, of course, comes from before the Mandalorian purge. Thus he assumes that this armored fellow actually comes from Mandalore. It's how things generally were in his time. His brow raises slightly though at what he's told to call him.
"Mando? Do you not have a name?" The confusion clearly written on his face as no Mandalorian has ever requested such a thing of him. But his attention quickly goes to Grogu, a light of recognition in his eyes.
"Grogu? You came here together, then?"
no subject
technically it was free considering he took the bounty back *cough*"Fair enough." He responds. Really, Din had never even been to Mandalore, even though he knows what happened to the planet. But Ben didn't need to know that. He raises his own eyebrow under the helmet. Nobody had questioned the whole alias thing before.
"I do, just don't give it out easily." The man's genuine confusion gets a tilt of the helmet. "Not many outside of my clan know it."
Grogu responding to his name gets him to look down at the child, and he barely resists chuckling, before his gaze turns back up to Ben, the tone having the slightest hint of a smile.
"Yes. We woke up not long ago by the fountain.

Grogu still regarded Kenobi curiously. He could sense something from him. It seemed like he might really be a jedi! He wondered if he was related to the Obi-Wan Kenobi he'd heard about at the Temple.

Though his attention appears to remain on the Mandalorian who doesn’t like giving out his name. “I see. Well then, welcome to the Twin Roses. It seems you’re a part of the crew now.”
He paused though, still having one more thing he wanted to ask. “What clan do you belong to... Mando?”
no subject
"...thank you." He says, shifting his weight to one leg. "Nice ship. Nicer than mine in our universe." Din, basically any ship is beter than the Razor Crest.
His helm tilts to the other side at the question about clans.
"My...I used to belong to one that simply went by the tribe." The response is honest. "Now...I have my own clan. Clan Mudhorn."
no subject
Grogu's ears raise at the mental touch. He opens his mind, reaching out inquisitively towards the other Jedi. How strange to find a Jedi there, let alone someone with a name he'd heard before.
no subject
“The tribe? Cant say I’ve heard of it. I’m more familiar with clans such as Clan Kryze, Clan Vizsla and the like.”
Obi-Wan glanced at the emblem on Mando’s pauldron. “So then, shall I call you Mando Mudhorn?” Yes that was a bit of snark there as he finally pushed himself to his feet.
His gaze now shifting back to Grogu as he felt the child respond. Passing on his own thoughts and feelings to the little one. Impressions and mental images of the Jedi Temple. His home. It was Grogu’s home too wasn’t it?
“Last I checked, Mandalorians were warriors, not caretakers.”
no subject
"We were...based on the outer rim planet of Nevarro." 'Were' being the operative word here. Now they were scattered around the galaxy. Damn Imps. The clan names get a nod of acknowledgement. "We had a member of Clan Vizla in the tribe, Paz Vizla." He watches to see if the man recognizes the name.
"Met a member of Clan Kryze more recently." It was hard to forget the woman, part of him hopes they're doing well in their efforts. "Bo-Katan Kryze, on the planet Trask. Along with her companions, Axe Woves and Koska Reeves." He pauses for a moment. "She gave me a lead for my quest. In return for helping her." Because trading is the best way to do things.
Obi-wan can't see it, but Din rolls his eyes under the helmet, as the helmet rolls a bit too. You're not going to give up, are you? "Why does my name matter?" Really, nobody else cared, that he encountered. Not even Ahsoka cared.
At the last comment, he tilts the helm to glance down at the kid, and then back up to Obi-wan. "He's a foundling put into my care, after I rescued him. Protected him from those that hunt him." He considers how much to tell the man. "I was...quested to reunite him with his own kind. Until then, I care for him."
no subject
When he realizes Din is talking about him, he looks up, cooing at his guardian. One hand reaches out towards Kenobi. Dude. You found his kind. He's right there. Right. There. Mission complete. Kind of.
no subject
Exile perhaps? Though he couldn’t imagine why unless they were part of Death Watch. The Outer Rim was a good place to be though if you were trying to hide or evade the law. He would know.
Ben’s lips pull a bit in an amused expression. “Names always matter, Mando of Clan Mudhorn. Otherwise we wouldn’t be so intent on hiding them.” But it is what it is. Obi-Wan hadnt exactly given the man his actual name either. But at least he wasn’t telling people to call him Jedi.
Speaking of which, he looks to Grogu again, his smile softening as Mando explained. “I see. So you’re protecting this ad’ika from the Empire. For a moment I thought you might be a bounty hunter. A Jedi can’t be too careful.”
no subject
"Please, just Mando." He waves a hand. Stop being so formal. He does take note of the 'we' however, and it gets a raised eyebrow. "Seems we're both hiding something." He tilts the helm to glance at Grogu at the kid's noises.
"Them and others." He sees Grogu's pointing, and he looks back up to Ben, helm tilting. He was going to comment about the bounty hunter hunter. But...wait. "You're a Jedi." His eyes under the visor might be widening a little in realization. If Ben's expecting a negative reaction from Din, he's not getting it. Although it ending here of all places, never crossed his mind. "Would you...be able to train him?" Is it worth having him trained here?
no subject
Grogu smiles, so pleased that Din was able to figure out what he was trying to tell him! Because clearly it had to be what he was doing, not anything Master Kenobi said...But... oh. If Master Kenobi agreed to train him, would that mean he'd leave Din? He doesn't like that. Oh no... suddenly so conflicted.
no subject
“I won’t take you from him. Not unless you wanted it. Besides, we are all stuck here together little one. We must rely on each other. All of us.”
That moment was a momentary distraction as he gathered his thoughts. The Jedi turning his attention back to Mando, thought not quite looking at him directly.
“And I don’t think you would want me to train him anyway.”
The subject of Mandalore being skipped over for the moment.

For the moment, all he can think to do is tilt his helm down to stare at Grogu, surprised, and a little bewildered. He's kind of glad for the helmet at the moment. As he tries to process it.
But then Ben is addressing him, and he slowly tilts the helm back up.
"Why not?" He fights to keep his voice even, after the revelation just thrown at him. "As you said. We're stuck here together."
no subject
He senses Din looking at him and he looks up into that impassive helm. He wishes he knew what was under that helmet, what he really looks like. They've grown so close, but there's still a literal barrier between them. Maybe someday...
no subject
Whatever he was about to say, the Jedi rethinks it and looks back to Mando yet again.
“Have you ever met a Jedi, Mandalorian?”
no subject
"Other than you?" Din nods at the question, tilting his helm. "Only one. Ahsoka Tano. Bo-Katan...told me I'd find her on the planet Corvus." He glances at down at Grogu again, then back to Ben. "She...wouldn't train Grogu."

Some emotion welled up in the Jedi, but he pushed it down. He can meditate on this later. Instead he focused on what else the Mandalorian had said.
“Did she say why?”
no subject
His helmet tilts down as he thinks back on what Ahsoka had said.
"She said..." He took in a breath for a moment, before letting it out and looking up at Obi-wan again. "He's attached to me." And Din's totally not attached to the kid in return. "Makes him vulnerable to his fear and anger." He sighs. "Said she'd seen what could happen before."

“She is not wrong in that,” he says quietly. “I can already see the bond between the two of you, and his fear of losing it.”
Does he blame Grogu for it? No. But the danger was very real. The young one has been through much of what he has, but without the mastery that Obi-Wan had.
“If I was to give him any meaningful training, your relationship would have to change. A master must bond with their Padawan, and the Padawan must be focused on his master’s teachings. Grogu would have to learn to let go if his attachment to you.”
Obi-Wan paused solemnly, a deep dread filling him as he was not sure either would be willing to even do that.
“I will not train someone who can not overcome his fear. Not again.”

powerstubbornness. There's conflict going on within him. Part of him is happy to hear this, certainly doesn't want to end the bond between them. A bond he's tried his best to deny to himself. He'd have to let the kid go, if they ever did find a Jedi. But this place is definitely throwing a wrench into that conflict. As Obi-wan had said, they were all stuck together here. There's an annoyed sigh that escapes him, as he listens to Obi-wan's words.
"Even if we're stuck here." No, part of him really doesn't want it to end. "I can't train him." He says with another small sigh. "I barely know his powers."
