Rude awakening - Closed to Grogu

Last thing Mando remembers, is him and the kid--no. it was Grogu now--aboard the Razor Crest, leaving the planet Corvus. They'd found a Jedi, Ahsoka Tano, who'd refused to train Grogu in the end. Insisting the kid was too attached to him. Mando had been a mix of both frustration and, oddly, relief. But she did give them a lead to the planet Tython, one more attempt to try and find a Jedi to train Grogu. A last chance to finish the quest. Or at least that's where they were SUPPOSED to be headed.

Mando didn't remember blacking out, but suddenly he's waking up to rough uneven ground underneath him, instead of the pilot seat of his ship. It's only a moment, before he becomes fully aware again with a start and quickly climbs to his feet. Pistol automatically drawn from it's holster, in the ready as his visored gaze took in his surroundings. Somewhere in the back of his mind, the ruined city looked familiar, but he couldn't place why. His gaze eventually fell on the orb, and he found himself drawn to it. Touching the surface with his free hand and the information, and memories, came flooding into his mind.

He stumbles back from it, free hand coming up to grasp at the helmet for a moment, as he shakes it to clear his head. Agra-10, this maker-forsaken planet and the damn Agrii. What the hell was he doing back here? Then he drops the hand, and looks up with a start.

"Kid?" Had Grogu come with him once again? He tried to keep calm, as he looked around frantically for a sign of the small green child.

Exploration - OTA

Eventually father and son will move out to take in the city and see what, or who, they can find. Mando has Grogu tucked in one arm, or if not, the kid might mot be too far away. Just expect a pistol drawn on you, if you startle Mando. He's tense and on alert. One of the stops is to the hangar, the fact that the First Breath refused to open for him making him frown under the helmet. Eventually finding that the Twin Roses and the Starduck open when they get near them. He tilts his helm to the side and down to look at the kid.

"Want to check them out?"

And being the mischievous kid he is, Grogu of course is prone to wandering off on his own to explore. Fortunately for the kid, Mando's usually not too far behind in looking for him.

Grogu had been napping as they flew, lulled to sleep by the familiar vibrations of the Razor Crest. He didn't care what Ahsoka had said about him being too attached to Din. They'd become their own little family, a clan of two. He'd be perfectly content to stay with him and not bother with the Jedi.

He's rather surprised to wake up on the ground instead of in his little hammock. He coos softly, pushing to his feet and looking around. Then he sees it - a big. Glowing. Ball. Whoa. He vaguely registers Din on the other side of it as he toddles forward and reaches one clawed hand up to touch its surface. Unlike Din, the information download doesn't seem to rattle him. It's not much different than connecting to another's mind, it's just... More. He blinks as he tries to process the new information. But Din's voice cuts through. Oh. Of course he can't see him where he's standing.

Making a small noise, he leans over, peeking around the orb. His ears raise as if asking Din what he wants.

There's enough clattering to alert the pair that someone's in the area once they arrive in the hangar. Cal's not a crew member of neither the Twin Roses nor the Starduck, but as one of the few engineer specialists in town, he tries to do his part. Between the collaborative efforts of Reeve, the Soldier and the padawan, they've at least gotten the ships back in some semblance of working order after the rough landing in the midst of the storm that had heralded their homecoming.

Cal steps back from an open panel on the side of the Starduck, wiping his brow with the back of a hand. He frowns to himself, an unusual expression that catches his droid buddy's attention, earning a curious worble. While the padawan doesn't explain, he does offer an arm to BD-1, who hops up without question and clambers up onto his usual spot behind Cal, who's already turning to look towards the direction of the hangar entrance.

Perhaps he should have stuck to his fatigues. Even with its near-archaic shapes, distinct blue markings, and additional accessories, his mostly white armor still bears a resemblance to the stormtrooper kits the Mando and The Child have seen time and time again.

Echo is minding his own business when their paths cross, his step faltering from the brisk pace he's keeping. Pulling his blaster up in self-defense in a relatively abandoned city is the last thing he wants to do in a situation like this, switching to diffuse the tension as best as he can.

"Easy," the clone responds, one gloved hand rising halfway as the other holds the blaster aloft. "These buildings are already rough-lookin' as they are."

Imperial. For what little he now knows of the Empire, it still leaves a bad taste in his mouth. It should be a good sign that Din hasn't tried shooting him in the face yet, but the ARC Trooper plays it safe, staying as he is while frowning under the helm.

"For the Republic," Echo states evenly, his vocal inflections different from most storm trooper voices. "The Empire doesn't exist here."

"Friendly so long as you are," Cal calls out, his hands upraised as he steps around from the side of the ship. It's not hard to remember the filtered voice, although once the padawan comes into view of the armored warrior, he still looks surprised to see him.

"-you're back." His surprise is echoed by BD-1 who peers over his shoulder.

Looks like no one is losing their heads today, which is good for both of them. Echo relaxes as well, arms dropping slowly so that he cradles the blaster in a resting stance.

The more he studies Din and his armor, it brings back a faint memory. "I think we have. Briefly. The armor looks familiar, anyway." He then tilts his head slightly. "The name's Echo."

Cal relaxes once the man moves his hand away from his gun, a crooked smile chasing away the brief moment of tension.

"Yeah? I wonder if I should say 'welcome back', given the circumstances haven't changed much. I think it's been...at least a few months since we last saw you." The time's always so difficult to gauge around here given the extra amount of hours the days ran.

"If you're here, does that mean the kid's back too?" he asks after glancing around.

"Mando it is," Echo nods, finding nothing wrong with the alias. That's practically how clones operate, nicknames and all. "Come to think of it, Reeve mistook me for you back on the ship." He shakes his head. "Although I don't see how he can mix up our armor. They're completely different."

He then looks off to one side, a soft sigh audible in his voice. "Well, I guess it hasn't. Not since the last storm that brought us in."

He's absolutely fine. He looks exactly the way he did the last time you saw him, Din.

He tilts his head the other way, blinking curiously at the Mandalorian. Why so worried, Din. Cooing at him, he nodded slightly. He's fine! Stop worrying!

As if on cue, the kid peeks out from behind Din's boot. He knew enough to take some kind of cover when Din had his blaster in his hand.

He made a curious noise, his ears raising as he looked up at the stranger. Din seemed to know him, so he must be an okay guy, right?
the_child: (HI there)

Who let this child off on his own?!

[personal profile] the_child 2021-01-17 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
While Mando reaquaints himself with the area and catches up with old friends, it's easy enough for Grogu to wander off on his own. Din doesn't like it, but the kid is curious, what?

Food?

First order of business is to feed the rumbling in his stomach. He spots some kind of creature that looks small enough to eat and sets off in hot pursuit. He reaches and it moves just out of his grasp. Burbling with frustration, he takes a few steps forward and reaches again.

Starduck

The door opens for him. He coos, curious about the unfamiliar ship. Toddling his way inside, his eyes are wide as he looks around. It's so shiny! Way nicer looking than the Razor Crest!

He comes upon a bank of buttons. They're so pretty! He has no idea what they do and he doesn't care. He reaches out one clawed hand to press one - perhaps someone should stop him...

The padawan grins a little as he sees the little one. He rests his hands on his knees as he stoops a bit, his droid scuttling from one shoulder to the other to offer a cheerful beep in greeting.

"There you are," Cal says. "Good to see he's been taking care of you." He glances from the child to the Mandalorian then. "That's interesting. It seems like the amount of time varies between people who might have been sent home and get pulled back- if that happens. Probably better you missed the storm at least. The last one was real bad."

Grogu blinks, giving Cal a wave. He doesn't know this guy, even though he seems to know him. That's strange, but he's used to all kinds of people knowing him, so it doesn't bother him too much.

The droid has his interest, though. His eyes get wide and he makes a curious mrring noise as he watches it move.

The button suddenly comes within easy reach, as though the entire panel has floated out to greet him! In reality it's the child who's been lifted within better range of the spread of shining buttons, by an oh-so-helpful Exo.

Cayde is certainly not one to stop the kid from exploring. Besides, he's very likely tried pushing them all himself. It had been a loooong trip out to the Agrii's rescue, and having not been allowed into the cockpit, he'd had to make use of his time somehow. At the very least nothing terribly vital is linked to this panel.

...he's pretty sure there isn't, anyway.

A faint snort precedes a chuckle. "Nothing that I know of. He only ate whatever was being served after asking me about the foundling." Because, clearly, Echo still holds some confusion over the question since he initially arrived alone.

There's a subtle shift in the clone's stance, distributing weight from one leg to the other during a short pause. "We all took to the shuttles, only to crash-land on the planet. The storm was already in progress by the time any of us came to. And it brought about...ghosts," he describes, almost as if he doesn't believe his own words. "Familiar voices. Except none of them were friendly."
