Here and back again

WHO: Mando, TheChild™, open
WHERE: Fountain, around Tembra
WHAT: Arrival in the city
WHEN: Couple days before event start, cause let's give these guys a chance to settle in first
WARNINGS: Season 2 spoilers for kid's name and events, just to be safe. Will update if needed

Rude awakening - Closed to Grogu

Last thing Mando remembers, is him and the kid--no. it was Grogu now--aboard the Razor Crest, leaving the planet Corvus. They'd found a Jedi, Ahsoka Tano, who'd refused to train Grogu in the end. Insisting the kid was too attached to him. Mando had been a mix of both frustration and, oddly, relief. But she did give them a lead to the planet Tython, one more attempt to try and find a Jedi to train Grogu. A last chance to finish the quest. Or at least that's where they were SUPPOSED to be headed.

Mando didn't remember blacking out, but suddenly he's waking up to rough uneven ground underneath him, instead of the pilot seat of his ship. It's only a moment, before he becomes fully aware again with a start and quickly climbs to his feet. Pistol automatically drawn from it's holster, in the ready as his visored gaze took in his surroundings. Somewhere in the back of his mind, the ruined city looked familiar, but he couldn't place why. His gaze eventually fell on the orb, and he found himself drawn to it. Touching the surface with his free hand and the information, and memories, came flooding into his mind.

He stumbles back from it, free hand coming up to grasp at the helmet for a moment, as he shakes it to clear his head. Agra-10, this maker-forsaken planet and the damn Agrii. What the hell was he doing back here? Then he drops the hand, and looks up with a start.

"Kid?" Had Grogu come with him once again? He tried to keep calm, as he looked around frantically for a sign of the small green child.

Exploration - OTA

Eventually father and son will move out to take in the city and see what, or who, they can find. Mando has Grogu tucked in one arm, or if not, the kid might mot be too far away. Just expect a pistol drawn on you, if you startle Mando. He's tense and on alert. One of the stops is to the hangar, the fact that the First Breath refused to open for him making him frown under the helmet. Eventually finding that the Twin Roses and the Starduck open when they get near them. He tilts his helm to the side and down to look at the kid.

"Want to check them out?"

And being the mischievous kid he is, Grogu of course is prone to wandering off on his own to explore. Fortunately for the kid, Mando's usually not too far behind in looking for him.

The button suddenly comes within easy reach, as though the entire panel has floated out to greet him! In reality it's the child who's been lifted within better range of the spread of shining buttons, by an oh-so-helpful Exo.

Cayde is certainly not one to stop the kid from exploring. Besides, he's very likely tried pushing them all himself. It had been a loooong trip out to the Agrii's rescue, and having not been allowed into the cockpit, he'd had to make use of his time somehow. At the very least nothing terribly vital is linked to this panel.

...he's pretty sure there isn't, anyway.

His eyes widen and he makes a soft noise as those buttons come that much closer. But how? Be wasn't doing anything...

Oh. Someone's holding him. He presses one particularly shiny button before looking up to see the droid from the bar. Ohai.
deal_me_in: (I got this!)

Cayde grins down at the kid, even as the overhead lighting winks off in result of the button press. Along the floor a row of lights comes on upon either side of the walkway to make the glowing outline of a path.

"Oh yeah, that's what that one does," the Exo muses as he looks towards the lights.
the_child: (HI there)

[personal profile] the_child 2021-01-21 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Grogu looks around, his ears lowering curiously as he watches the lights. His big eyes turn back to Cayde, making a little burbling noise. Well that was anticlimactic. But it was still fun!

Don't suppose you know what the other buttons do...
deal_me_in: (That's good right?)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2021-01-21 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately (fortunately??) none of the buttons back here affect the main controls of the ship. He's sure the kid with the bad haircut would've come at him with his red laser sword if it did- hoo! Did that guy have an attitude!

Cayde hums as he considers the panel, trying to remember which button does what. "That one's no fun unless we're in space," he says as he points out a blue button.

"Mmm...tryyyyy...that one."

the_child: (HI there)

Grogu looks back up at Cayde for a moment, tilting his head questioningly. Really? Man, Din never lets him do this! Smiling, he moves his hand over to the button Cayde had pointed to. He pauses for a moment, looking up for confirmation that it's the right one before pressing it.

Cayde gives an encouraging nod at that. He's clearly the best role model here. Once the button is depressed, the screen above the console comes to life, although since they're currently grounded the only image it shows of outside is the hangar bay itself. After a disappointed moment, the Exo sighs.

"Yep, this would be way more fun if we were flying. Except there's no weapons on the ship so I can't even show you how to shoot things- how disappointing is that?"
the_child: (I halp)

[personal profile] the_child 2021-01-23 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Grogu coos, his eyes widening as the screen comes on. That's great! Din never lets him play with the controls like this!

Whining, he reaches a hand towards another button. He's going to milk this for all it's worth!
deal_me_in: (That's good right?)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2021-01-23 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
That gets a chuckle out of the Exo. "You're just meaning to try every button on this panel aren't you?" He helps move the kid closer to his next button selection without a fuss.

The next one comes with the perhaps familiar hiss that goes with space hatches of any sort, and then just a bit down the corridor on either side of them, the doors slide shut. "Huh, that'll be a handy one to remember. Someone should really label these things, don'tcha think kid?" Cayde muses as he glances from the resulting to the child he's got poised over the controls.
the_child: (HI there)

[personal profile] the_child 2021-01-24 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, you're the one encouraging him to push stuff!

He looks around as the doors shut, making an interested noise. Yeah, someone should label them. Otherwise how would anyone know what they do?! See? This is for science!! He looks up at Cayde. Another one?
deal_me_in: (This is my serious face)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2021-01-24 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Great minds think alike! Cayde grins. "Go for it, kid," he says. What's the harm? No one else is around to give them looks or tell them not to! "Just remember which one opens the doors so we can get out."

That's the least thing he's concerned with at the moment anyway. Really, who ever gets stuck on their own ship?
the_child: (Zening a zen)

[personal profile] the_child 2021-02-01 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
The suggestion gets a noise from him. He looks up at Cayde before pointing to the button he'd just pressed. I's right there! Do you really need a kid to point that out for you?
deal_me_in: (So everything is gone)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2021-02-01 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay, okay! I was just saying! No need to get all uppity," Cayde snorts, but he gives the kid a pat on the head. "Playing with the food goo buttons in the galley might be more fun, but then again, I'm not sure if you care for food goo, given previous experience."
the_child: (Is it okay to come out?)

[personal profile] the_child 2021-02-03 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, who are you calling uppity? He's just pointing out the obvious. You're the one who needed a reminder.

He tilts his head, making a curious noise. Food goo? And, for that matter, previous experience?
deal_me_in: (That moment when you think...)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2021-02-04 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
You know, the swallowing fish whole thing. Obviously this child is past the mush and well into the solids stage. Cayde grins. "Here, I'll show you. First let's get the doors open again," he says, reaching over to tap at the button as he looks expectantly towards the doors facing the galley. His brow furrows when nothing happens, and he taps at it again, to the same result.

"....huh."
the_child: (This is child labor)

[personal profile] the_child 2021-02-06 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Fair enough. He is a growing Jedi, after all.

Wait, what? Grogu makes a noise, looking from the button, to the door, to Cayde. Dude... you broke it.
deal_me_in: (Worse case - you die)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2021-02-06 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
At the noise, Cayde looks back down at the kid, and despite having no nose, the rest of his metal features scrunch up enough to suggest the wrinkling of one. "Hey, don't give me that look! I didn't do it- you pushed it last." Real mature, Cayde. Blame the kid.

He taps at the other buttons in testing, but most of them respond as they're supposed to. The Exo scowls at the door. "Hm. Maybe it shorted out. Something to tell that kid about so he can fix it, I guess," he mutters.

Stepping away from the console, he sets Grogu down, then walks over to one of the doors where he tries to get a grasp enough to try pulling at them. When that fails, he attempts to use a knife, which doesn't really get him much farther. "Well, guess we'll have to improvise," he says, stroking his chin as he eyes the door and then the little one for a moment. Ghost-stepping wouldn't be a problem if it were just him, so that's out. His gaze trails towards the ceiling as he looks for a promising grating.

Grogu blows a raspberry. Did not!

Hmmm. He can see what Cayde is trying to do. The door needs to open, but the droid isn't able to open it. He can tell he's trying to find another solution. But Grogu knows there is one... Din said to be careful, to not use his powers. But Cayde has been so nice to him, he couldn't be a bad guy, right? He concentrates for a moment, sensing if there's anyone else nearby. Sensing no one, he holds out his hand and closes his eyes.

Slowly, the doors begin to slide open.
deal_me_in: (Pkeew!!)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2021-02-08 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Well that saves Cayde the trouble (and potential embarrassment) of trying to go shimmying through the ventilation systems. He looks back towards the doors at the sound, blinking as they begin to slowly pull open.

"What the-"

He looks from the doors to the kid on the floor, hand extended in an undeniably purposeful gesture. Usually when Warlocks hold their hands out like that, something explodes. Opening doors? Definitely new to him. "Huh! Well I'll be."

[personal profile] the_child 2021-02-08 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Would've still been better than the time Din tried to get Grogu to fix the Razor Crest. Some things still didn't smell right after that.

Once the doors are open, Grogu's hand lowers. He opens his eyes a little, blinking sleepily as he makes sure they stay open. Good. Putting a hand down to slow his descent, he lays down on the floor. His eyes drift closed. He just needs a little nap.

The Hunter's kneeling there beside him not a moment later, carefully scooping the kid up. Aw, all tuckered out.

"You did good, kid," he says quietly, giving his little head a pat. He eyes the doors as though half expecting them to shut again before he moves on through and makes way towards the bunk room. There are far better places for a napping child than the floor, after all.
the_child: (Sleep)

[personal profile] the_child 2021-02-14 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
He's gonna have to nap for a little while. Using the Force is rough work for the little one. But he helped, and that's what matters.
