Different Things To Save

I. Rescued In Time | Closed to Noctis
Earth trembles weren't so strange a thing that they immediately roused Lark from sleep when they were so... limited. She's survived a great earthquake in recent memory, so he wasn't shocked to have slept through whatever was going on now. That she'd managed to slip to the pens where the glownies were kept, where the creatures whickered with distress with something else.

Apparently she'd been lucky enough to make her way over when the Bearger was wandering elsewhere, but now she could see the thing looming in the distance.

"Oh dear," she said, her voice a touch concerned. That was... a bit larger than most things she'd had to defend herself against in the past. What was she to do?

II. What Are You Wearing? | Closed to Link
Truly this had been quite the experience, hadn't it? Monsters terrorizing the city on quite this scale was a new one for her, and Lark was a bit emotionally shaken. But she had been gotten out of the main area of risk and sent off to find her own shelter. Something she was coming out of now that the power was back and people seemed to be reporting success on the network.

"What a dreadful thing that was," she said with a sigh as she straightened herself a bit and stepped out onto the street. She needed to check in on people, be certain they were okay. And make more bandages if needed.

If only she knew where to find them.

Oh, the showers. Link nods, because that, at least, he has encountered. They'd been rather fascinating too - like a waterfall you turn on and off at will.

Then they're at the Hanger, and Link walks inside. He looks around, trying to spot not his own ship, but the one Lark mentioned - the Vanquish.

Lark smiles at the young man and moves toward her own ship.

"I tend to prefer the showers here when I can get them, though the hot springs are also nice. I just don't make use of them as much as I might normally. It's a minor magical strain."

To be overloaded is almost as bad as drained.

"Here," she says as the door of her ship opens upon her approach. "We'll just go on in. You can shower while you're here too."

Link looks down. Notices the dirt, and the blood, and the bits of broken feathers.

Oh yeah, he probably should wash too, shouldn't he?

So he nods, and follows Lark onto her ship. The layout doesn't seem too different, so it's not too hard to find the shower.

Not very different at all.

"How about you find the showers and I'll bring you my spare robe. I'll show you how the laundry works after that."

Though she will have to see about getting the bits of broken feathers out.

Link nods, and then - as is his way - runs off deeper into the ship to find the showers.

By the time Lark gets there with the spare robe, Link will already have turned on the water and jumped in - his dirty clothes unceremoniously dumped outside.

He'd never bathed this way before ending up here, but he has to admit - it is very nice. Warm water is amazing. Like a hot spring waterfall!

"I'm leaving the robe folded up just outside of the shower. Then I'll be in the hall. Let me know when you are done."

Because Link should take the time he needs.

Link almost doesn't hear Lark over the sound of the water. But he does, so he says "Okay," and then continues on with getting himself clean.

Eventually he emerges, and puts on the robe. It's nice and soft, and very well made - just like all of Lark's clothes. But since she's a lot taller than him, it is also far too big. His hands disappear into the sleeves, and the bottom of it trails along on the ground as he makes his way to Lark, with his dirty bundled-up clothes in his arms.

Once there, he looks at her with an unvoiced question in his eyes. Now what?

Yes, there was always that risk of people being small compared to her. That was something she had expected, but he won't be in it long.

"Alright then," she said, clearly suppressing a chuckle. It would be wrong to call him cute wouldn't it? Well, that's fine. She slips past him back into the room and gestures to the two large metal boxes.

"These are the washer and dryer. I had to ask others for help in learning them."

Would it be wrong to call him cute? Not necessarily. Being cute is nice. It's one of the reason he likes wearing his Gerudo Outfit, and being a vai for a while.

Right now though, Link's focused on the mysterious new machines.

"What do we do?" he says, looking at them with intense focus.

Some men felt less confident with being called cute, so she tried her best not to say it. But that isn't here or there. Now she was opening one of the machines.

"We put the clothes in this one. Sometimes you soak the clothes first. This one has handled blood decently, and it's still mostly fresh, so this might work."

Link nods, and then takes his bundle of clothes and put them inside the big box. Then closes the door which is - curiously - made of glass. Maybe it's important to be able to see your clothes, when they're being washed?

He certainly plans to watch. He wants to know what the machine will do.

Then he looks at Lark. What next?

"Alright, next we do this," she says, reaching for the controls. "It has settings based on how dirty things are and temperature. I've been testing, and colder water works better for bright colors, and hot water sets stains more, so it's better to start cold here."

She fiddles with settings and shows him what they are before hitting the go button.

"IT seems to add cleaning soap on its own."

Link watches her closely as he presses the buttons and adjusts the settings. He needs to remember what she does, so that he can do it himself next time.

Then she tells the machine to start. He stares through the glass door in fascination, as water starts to fill it.

"It's spinning!" he says, as the cycle begins. Lark told him this was what the machine does, but seeing it is something else.

Yes, it was. Lark had to smile. It was like watching Briar's excitement over spinning thread for the first time. Yes, this was something she could appreciate.

"It will continue to do so. The water and motion is what cleans the clothes."

Link continues to stare. There's something mesmerizing about the way it keeps on spinning.

"How long?" he asks.

"The wash cycle for heavily soiled is about half an hour or so?"

She's still amazed at how accurately time is kept here, so it's nice to have a proper answer.

Link hums. Not super long, really. Compared to how much fuss it would be to wash his clothes individually. But also not immediate, like it was when his korok-enchanted pack could handle it.

Still, he sits back and settles in - apparently content to just sit there and watch his clothes spin for the entire half and hour. Not unless Lark suggests something else to pass the time, at least.

"A meal?" she suggests, looking at him. "I find it's a good choice. I spend the washing and drying time eating or doing repairs on other clothes, or even weaving."

She'd been doing her best to keep herself busy after all.

Link looks away from the machine, brightening a little. He is always happy to eat.

"You have food?"

"I don't. But I find some of the protein pastes are... tolerable when heated."

Barely so, but tolerable.

"Protein pastes?" Link says, head tilted to one side. Now there's a food he doesn't know.

"Come and see," she says, walking away toward the cafeteria. He'd see it soon enough. The machines were useful. And he might be interested in the microwave.

Link’s gotten to know more of the cooking appliances at the Diner. But he hasn’t spent as much time in the ships. Half the things, he doesn’t even know what they do.

But as ever, Link is curious. So he nods, and follows along.

She moves with ease into the cafeteria, giving him a chance to keep up. That robe was so large on him. While she was there she grabbed a bowl and got some chili paste into it.

"This needs warmed up."

The robe is indeed long, still trailing along the floor a little as Link wonders into the kitchen and starts looking for a fire.

Because obvious, if they're going to warm it up - they need fire, right? Surely there isn't any other way of doing it. He just needs to find the stove.
