Djarin Enterprises

WHO: Din Djarin, ota
WHERE: Billy's hero city
WHAT: May event catchall?
WHEN: All of May?
WARNINGS: Will update as needed.

1. Djarin Tower - OTA

While SI was known for it's high tech, and other things. In the business world, Djarin Enterprises was know for being a military defense contractor. But it's also known for having a good influence in plenty of other areas as well. The tower, being one of the tallest buildings in the city, was a busy place on most days. Usually run by Luscius Fox, most of the tower's floors are made up of offices that run the various branches of the conglomerate. However, there are plenty of public areas as well. Including a fine dining restaurant with large windows that look out over the city, and an open air deck on one of the higher floors. For those that can brave the heights. There's regular tours through out the day for tourists and the like. And in the lobby, there's friendly greeters, and receptionists ready and willing to help.

And of course there's the head of the whole place, Din Djarin himself. He's mysterious, and not seen often in public. But can sometimes be caught checking in on things around the tower. Usually dressed well in a suit and tie, and to keep up the mystery he's usually also sporting a hat and dark sunglasses, even indoors. That work together to hide most of his face from view. But you can also catch him if you're here on business, perhaps something that couldn't just be dealt with by going through Luscius. Whatever the encounter, despite his looks, Din will be courteous and civil with those that deal with him. If you get real lucky, he might even have his son with him.

2. Interview with the mysterious - Closed to Cobb

At the top of the tower of course, was Din Djarin's private residence. Outside of those who live there, the penthouse is cut off from the public. Only accessible to those allowed, or who have the access codes. Inside is spacious, with a comfortable living room, and kitchen. There's a large play room for his son, Grogu, that any kid would love to have, as well as his own bedroom, and quarters for his close friend and butler. Here, among family, Din goes without the hat and sunglasses. It's his sanctuary, to get away from the busy business, and vigilante, double life that he lived. Still this afternoon, he's expecting a visitor, one of the few he allows up here at all.

"Just a reminder, sir. You have an interview with Cobb Vanth at six-o'clock." Alfred, his friend and butler, helpfully reminded him, making him sigh quietly.

"Thank you, Alfred. Tell reception to notify us when he arrives." Cobb Vanth, one of the few reporters in the city that Din actually liked, and let interview him at all.

"Of course, sir. Will there be anything else?"

"Yeah, brew up some of our best coffee toward the end of the interview." Alfred nodded in acknowledgement, and walked off, leaving Din on his own for the time being.

They probably shouldn’t be friends. Their first meeting had been rather tense to say the least since Cobb had been a little aggressive with his questions. Somehow that had earned him Din’s respect and over the years of knowing each other they’d become friends.

Cobb was on the fence about seeing if that friendship could be more. It was harder and harder to deny that he wanted to nudge things away from the professional side of their relationship. It was hard to write ruthlessly about a guy he liked so much.

Those thoughts bounced around in his head on the cab ride over to Din’s skyscraper. The second he stepped out of the cab and walked into the lobby he pulled his thoughts together. He had to make his way through the slight crowd but the receptionist was expecting him and a few seconds later he was escorted to the private elevator for Din’s apartment.

"Good to see you too, Alfred." Cobb always liked the butler. He was a good guy, protective of Din and his son but always polite even in the early days when Cobb had been more an annoyance than a friend. He was lucky he got on Alfred's good side eventually.

He did know his way around but he still tapped with his cane. Sighted people tended to move their furniture around without really thinking about it. And the kid might leave toys around. Better to be safe than trip over an action figure.

"Hey, stranger," he teased warmly. Din's presence in his senses was always steady. It was rare to hear the guy rattled or pick up a stutter in his heartbeat. "Before we get to business, how's the kid?"

Look, they were both proud parents. They had to talk about the kids first.

So far, he'd been telling people that he took a bad step and fell. Most people believed it pretty easily. They also didn't like to pry that much into a blind man's business after he admitted something to stupid.

Getting mugged? Much better story. So, he was gonna roll with that. Cobb was fantastic at bullshit.

"I did, actually. Late night at the office and I'm an easy target, you know?" The bruise on his face was pretty impressive according to people who looked at him. It was still damn sore from that punch. It hurt less than the gunshot graze on his arm but that was hidden by his suit. "He was not happy when he saw I only carried credit cards. Didn't like it when I mouthed off about not being able to see bills."

He smiled a little, touched by Din's concern. He turned his head and tapped the bruise on his cheek. "You wanna kiss it and make it better?"

"Most people who turn to petty crime don't have other options available." Cobb didn't expect Din to actually kiss his cheek but he would've liked it if the other man did. Maybe one of these days Din would take his flirting seriously.

He gripped Din's arm in return gently to reassure him. It wasn't often Din reached out so he appreciated the gesture.

"You know me, I always want coffee." Technically, Cobb was in an unfamiliar place. One he shouldn't know the layout of so he kept his cane out even though he could easily navigate.

"How's business? Heard you had a big deal that you're keeping quiet so it doesn't fall through." Because Cobb was very good at hearing things he shouldn't.

"Merrin's interning at the paper. She's doing great." His daughter was pretty great. Cobb was glad to brag about her.

Din's one of the few people who knows how to properly guide him. Cobb had given him instructions on how to do it the first time the man had offered help like this. Now, it was a nice way to get Din's hands on him. Warm, strong, and steady hands.

He sat down when he reached the chair and now folded up his cane, setting it aside. He got out his phone. "Start sound recording."

Cobb used to keep notes with an old fashion tape recorder but smart phones were much easier. "Not doin' my job if I'm not snooping around. I like to know what you're up to. See what break works are going to come out of your business next. Not going to give me even the littlest hint of what's coming?"

Which wasn't unusual for Din. He played his cards real close to his chest. Cobb had to listen extra well to what he didn't say between the words.

My life motto

[personal profile] heypartner 2021-05-20 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Cobb had a general idea that Grogu was not human. He "looked" strange in his senses and he had heard the reports on the little guy but he was blind so... Grogu was just another kid to him and always had been.

Always would be given his friendship with Din. He thought that way of treating Grogu had helped that friendship blossom.

He chuckled a little, used to Din's way of avoiding his questions. "What sort of benefit? Another homeless shelter? A community college? Come on, Din, give me a little hint. I won't reveal anything until you give me the go ahead."

There were very few people Cobb would hold a story back for but he'd do it for Din.

That was another one of those things that Cobb learned to appreciate about Din. He was genuinely helpful. When he set up a charity or shelter or project it helped people. It wasn't just to make him look good or get a corporate tax break.

He was a strange recluse and odd about being in the public eye but that wealth wasn't obsessively hoarded. It was used for good.

"Sounds like a good project to keep you out of trouble," he said with a little grin. "I'll make sure to come to the grand opening when it's ready. Write up a nice in depth story for you instead of a fluff everyone else will do."

Because he could still be critical of Din without being cruel. "Where'd you get the idea for this?"
heypartner: (Heh)

"The root causes of that are deeper than simple financial trouble. It's a system issue. No that I expect you to suddenly take on politics and try to reshape the whole system but what's the long term solution here? More of these education centers?" One center was a thumb shoved in a damn about to break. It slowed things down but it didn't stop it, it didn't fix the core issue.

One man, even one incredibly wealthy man like Din, couldn't fix the core issue on his own. Cobb thought the guy was pretty great but he was a realist.

"And I know you pretty well by now. You've always got a plan. I know you're thinking long term." Cobb felt now that they were friends they had a way of understanding each other. His gut when it came to Din said the man was already thinking of step two.

"Although, I've heard you wear sunglasses even at night. Might be a little skeptical about how well you see anything," he teased, always willing to get a little jab in here and there.
heypartner: (Fuck It)

"I like some of those rumors. They're pretty funny when I know you." The rumors around him were probably not as funny to Din but Cobb listened to them with amusement. He tilted his head towards him, smiling softly.

"Until then, I trust you and your people to handle it. When the government does get involved I might not be so nice." Cobb had a long history of causing trouble with the government. He went to protests and rallies and wrote very critical articles of their actions.

He was pretty sure he was on an FBI watch list. And damn proud of it.

"You and Stark are dating," Cobb said with an easy grin. "Heard that one on Twitter." Someone out there had snapped a picture of what was probably a business lunch and then run with it. It had made Cobb laugh and then... embarrassingly there had been a bit of worry.

Wondering if maybe it was true and Cobb was flirting up the wrong tree. "Gotta say, you can do better."

Of course, he wanted the exclusive. He was a reporter. They all wanted exclusives. "You know, from any other business man I would think that's a bunch of bull. The way you say it, what I hear, is something real. Real concern. Real warmth for those people. This isn't just a tax break for you. It's a real effort to rebuild a community."

Cobb was more relieved than he should be to hear there was nothing going on between Din and Tony.

"I don't think he's your type. I trust Stark with technology but I wouldn't let him babysit, you know?" He couldn't see Tony raising a kid, not like Din. Not like him. The man was still too wild even at his age. "Gotta find someone good with kids. A family man."

Like him. Would Din get the hint? Cobb had no way of knowing, actually. He flirted a little bit, here and there. Never seemed to get anywhere, but he wondered.

"Oh, that line is definitely getting quoted in the article. It's a good one."

@ the Tower

Director Starling's intel had told her that if there was anywhere she was likely to get a chance at speaking one-on-one with Din Djarin, it would be at his offices. They'd been monitoring his activities for a few months, and she had more than enough suspicions to fill a mop bucket about him. But the real reason she was there was The Kid.

SHIELD had been dealing with extraterrestrial investigations and innovations ever since the first hints of it had arrived ... at first, there had been cover-ups, true, but now that more and more things were coming to light, Starling came to her new position as Director perfectly ready to be more about transparency as much as she could. And she saw in this Kid a potential that could do the world a great deal of good. The true feat, of course, would be convincing his surrogate father of the same.

She'd forgone her badge of office and kept her ID tucked away, but knew that Djarin had provided one or two contracts to outlying branches of SHIELD in the past - mostly for building and outfitting a couple of their helicarriers. So it was under the guise of that business that she approached reception and announced the arrangement for a meeting that had been made a ludicrous amount of time in advance.

"Clarice Starling, here to see Mr. Djarin."

It's fine! <3 Sorry for the wait!

She was dressed neatly: a pressed pencil skirt and matching jacket the color of summer pine needles with a buttercup-yellow camisole underneath. A string of gold and tiger's eye beads hung at her throat, with matching drop earrings, and her heels matched her bag in a tasteful, non-ostentatious way. She gave him her best For Public smile.

"Thank you, Mr. Djarin. I must say, I'm honored to get some facetime with you personally. I know you're used to dealing with a completely different contact for the SHIELD contracts: he sends his apologies for not being able to make it, he's involved with another project elsewhere and can't leave the think tank."

The gloves-and-glasses combo tell Starling this guy has more issues than just privacy - maybe intimacy, as well. Maybe it was the wealth and fame that made him want to keep everyone at such a distance, maybe it was something else. Either way, she wasn't about to judge him for it: all of her keen-eyed observations she made of civilians were for understanding and being compassionate, not for any sort of ill use. They were very nice gloves, though, the leather smooth and supple between her fingers, and she made a mental note to ask what sort they were so she could get a pair of driving gloves for herself from the same maker.

"He is, I've worked with him for quite a while. In some arenas I even consider him a little bit of a mentor. ... Either way, the helicarriers you helped us outfit are being phased out for newer models, so instead of sending some intern with the specs, I thought it would be nice to deliver them personally. We're outfitting these ones with a bit more altitude capacity, but we also need to have certain quarters outfitted with environmental accommodations for some of our ... physically unique agents."

Mutants. Of course, she meant mutants.
