[Video Post]

[There's a bunch of static and a blurry screen before it becomes fully focused on a young man dressed in an olive grey military uniform. There's a soft exclamation of "Oh, it's finally working." He clears his throat before focusing his gave on the communicator. When he speaks its in a heavy accent similar to a southern one and is in a soft but firm voice.]

Hello, I'm Lieutenant Eli Vanto. I've served under the Imperial Navy for 15 plus years. Most of my job being data analysis when we weren't chasing after pirates.

Now that we seem to have a way to communicate with each other, I was hoping to gather as much intel as possible on what all of you have discovered here.

We don't know a lot about our hosts and I was hoping that with the information provided it could put together a few pieces and give us a bigger outlook of the whole picture. The information you are able to be provide can be simple as the color choices they use, patterns, symbols, how they speak, what materials the buildings were made from and the condition, how the power plant was operated, etc. On a side note, I also wouldn't mind compiling a list of vegetation that's edible and what is considered toxic. I appreciate the information and help.

[He then ends the feed.]

Sir, I'm afraid to report that we will not be on the same ship when we depart. I am a little anxious over this news. I only hope the crew you are with are able to respect you.

However, I am glad we are still able to communicate. I'll be checking in regularly. Don't be a stranger. This isn't the Ascendancy.

[ Thrawn looks amused at the message. ]

I am capable of looking after myself, Vanto.

[ Except when he forgets to eat. ]

I will not be in a position of command, though. I doubt there will be much in the way of 'respect' given the situation we are in.

[ As usual Thrawn is totally oblivious. ]

I have little use for a translator here.

[ There's a thoughtful pause as Thrawn considers. ]

It would be more accurate to say 'allies'.

[ 'Friends' is a foreign word to Thrawn since he's only got the one. ]

Text, then Voice;

[He sends a list with descriptions and locations for the edible vegetables and fruits and such that he's personally found.

There's also a note on each for whether they should be cooked first or can be eaten raw without any negative effects.

Then his reply switches over to voice;
]

I'm sure you can find some use for this.

Take care to not run yourself ragged by shouldering the entire burden of being here.

[Sigh.] How is it I always seem to meet the workaholics?

[He supposes his entire list of friends and followers back home doesn't count, but so many of them have that same tendency.

Himself included, he supposes, but he's not going to get into that.
]

You do realize you will be of no use to anyone if you drive yourself to exhaustion? A strong work ethic is admirable, but don't overdo it.

[A pause.] I do suppose I would still like to be kept in the loop though, as you compile information. Logistics wasn't part of my Sphere of Influence, but I did poke my head into Darth Vowrawn's business once in a while.

I suppose the Imperial military is like that, regardless of time or... World or whatever it is that is the difference between where we're from.

[A short pause, as he thinks about it.]

I suppose the Republic military might have been like that, too.

[He hasn't really put too much thought into that- after all, he's Sith. What business is it of his, how their military works, so long as they can be crushed beneath the Empire's boot.]

A drink or two though... [He thinks on it.] Could probably be arranged. There are some fruits that have the same effect as alcohol.

[He's probably joking just a little. Possibly. It's hard to tell with him.]
kallig: (Covered laugh)

On any planet, and in any world apparently, someone, somewhere, thinks up a way to get drunk, I suppose.

[There's absolutely some amusement in his tone.]

And in this case, it is apparently you and I.

[His agreement gets a laugh from Altair too, more of a quiet little laugh, but a laugh nonetheless.]

Isn't that the truth.

[He's already going through which fruits and berries he knows of that are already like alcohol. They should be able to do something with those.]

It's one way to get our thoughts over on something else, certainly.
kallig: (Came as a surprise)

I can imagine. Most of my fellows on the Dark Council would likely blame my slave roots, should such a thing be brought to their attention.

[Most of them, though. Not all. Some of them don't have that stick lodged quite so far up there.]

My pilot back home used to be a pirate before tagging along with me. If there's anything you can learn from a pirate, it's how to loosen up a bit. And I'd say we deserve it, here.
kallig: (Happy shy smile)

[personal profile] kallig 2019-10-05 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. He is... Something, certainly. Surly, gruff, about as cuddly as a rancor with a rash, and yet probably one of my best friends.

[There's such a fond tone there. He's doing nothing to hide it, either.]

My crew was comprised of several unique personalities. Each and every one of them liked to argue with me, too.

[Not something a normal Sith would allow, he supposes. But it just worked for them, and he would have it no other way.]

Friends argue, and friends banter. Sometimes there is purpose and friendship grows deeper, sometimes there are misunderstandings and hurt feelings that must be soothed once tempers have cooled.

[He didn't have many friends before becoming Sith, but he's learned a great deal, ever since.]

And I, like your Grand Admiral, am of the opinion that one should speak what's on one's mind, and share ideas, even though they may be unorthodox. A leader is not infallible, and should look to those under their command when necessary.

[The leader should always have the last say, of course, but Altair knows the value in hearing other people's thoughts.] One of the Moffs under my command is of that same opinion, as well. Moff Valion Pyron. I think you'd like him.
kallig: (Arms crossed and listening)

[personal profile] kallig 2019-10-05 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Moff Pyron wasn't like that at all, so there are exceptions...

[He pauses, thinking about what to say.]

When I was only a Lord of the Sith, there was a Darth called Thanaton who very much would like for me to die. He challenged me to something called a Kaggath- a fight until death, basically.

[Or until one Sith lost, but losing meant death, or worse, after all.]

Moff Pyron came to me with an offer- I help him retrieve something he needed, and he would throw himself and his fleet behind me. He could have backed out of that promise. He could have simply taken what he needed, and left the stupid alien to fend for himself. But he didn't. And it's partly because of him that I survived my little spat with Darth Thanaton.

[Softly, and seemingly to himself, he adds,] Too bad about Thanaton, really...

[But back to the topic on hand--] Moff Pyron is one of my most loyal subjects. Or was before I ended up here.
