[Someone has been gone for quite awhile. He disappeared sometime during the whole Valentine fiasco and is only just now showing back up again. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to think he had left this world altogether, but nope he’s still here! Obi-Wan had simply gone outside the city into the Wilderness to be alone and meditate. Needing the time to think and sort things out in his mind with a little help from the Force.

So maybe you will be surprised when you see his face again? He looks no worse for wear, though he is ready to take a shower for sure.]

I apologize for my lengthy absence. It was needed so that I could have some time to think.

Many of you have come to know me as Ben Kenobi, and I regret to say that’s not entirely correct. My actual name is Obi-Wan Kenobi. I had changed my name in order to protect myself before even arriving here. I’m certain many of you will understand my caution as you know the history of the Jedi. However, I have decided such measures are not needed here.

When I first came here, the only members of my kind were myself and Cal. Since then, there are now four of us. Which is largely what brought about my extended leave. I don’t know why so many of us have been brought to this place, but I hadn’t expected to be around so many ever again.

All of us have known what it’s like to be alone. To be hunted and in hiding, living each day with a threat looming over us. There is no reason that should be so as long as we are here. No matter our past struggles, we are still Jedi, and here we don’t have to hide that fact.

Seeing as I was once a member of the High Council, it would be expected of me to see to the safety and well-being of all the Jedi here. I intend to live up to that expectation. I wish to find a place that we can call our own. A temple if you will. Where we can gather, learn, and perhaps even live together. As the only master among us, I have decided to also make myself available for teaching. It won’t exactly be conventional, but these are unconventional times.

Thus I would like to speak with all of you regarding this. And you as well, Mandalorian. We have a great deal to discuss.

Oh... and before I forget. Can anyone explain this?

[Obi-Wan then turns his device to show a giant feathered lizard wearing a saddle and bridle, chewing on leaves not too far away.]

Why the hell is that necessary? That's a cult tactic, dude.

That's really intense. So. Why are you guys considered so important? Like, not being judgmental, it just seems like a lot of work.

[Aaaand this is where conversations about Jedi ways typically go off the rails with outsiders. Happens without fail.]

It is a difficult life, and we do not allow ourselves some things that most people have. However, I have always found it fulfilling and rewarding.

Our place has always been as keepers of the peace. We serve others rather than ourselves.

So you're like monks. Except you're trained practically since birth. Okay. Well. Not gonna lie, super conflicted over that. What happens if someone decides they hate it? Can they leave?

Soooo... warrior monks.

Of course. That has happened on occasion. As Master Yoda would say, we are not jailers.

But, yes, I suppose that's an apt description. We don't call ourselves monks, but others have.

Is he the dude in charge? Like... a space pope?

Are you allowed to, uh. You know. With other people.

Master Yoda? Yes, he is the Grand Master of our order, and is the oldest and the most respected among us.

[The awkwardness of the next question draws some amusement from Obi-Wan.]

You mean sex? That’s a bit of a complicated topic. Is it forbidden? No. Though that is a personal decision with each Jedi. I personally have decided to abstain, though I have known some who do not.

So he's theoretically the wisest dude alive.

Uh, yeah. That. Where I'm from like, some types of clergy can't, like they can't even get married. It's kinda weird.

Not theoretically.

[Or they’re not supposed to ANAKIN.]

And no it’s not weird, or cultish. It’s called a commitment. A Jedi can not be divided between the Order and their personal life.

Okay, but see, I actually agree with you - if you're like, a religious teacher and advisor, you can't divide your life up into like... work and personal life. There is no division. But I was always taught that even if you ARE a master or whatever, you should still have the same struggles and pleasures as everyone else. And conversely, you make the everyday part of your spiritual shit.

Like I understand it's not exactly the same since it sounds like you guys have a martial aspect to things, but still. It seems like you might be cheating yourselves out of life a little.

And dude, come on. "It's a commitment"? Like you gotta explain what that is? You sound like my mom.

[At that last part Obi-Wan has to chuckle. He knows full well that he has a habit of lecturing. Anakin used to whine about it frequently. He’s not sorry though.

That’s just it, though, we are not. At least, we don’t see it that way.

Yes, I myself have had to make some difficult decisions. There were times where I could have left the order to pursue my own passions, and once I did. Though I came to regret it. Because, ultimately, I knew the Order was where I belonged. It was where I wanted to be. Nothing appealed to me more than being a Jedi, it was all I had ever truly wanted.

I don’t consider that depriving myself. In fact I’ve... never felt more empty than when all of that was taken away from me.

But why can't you have both? Just not enough time and energy? 'Cause that does make sense, I'm not so naive as to think you can have it all.

I just think that you should be allowed to try if you want to, especially for love.

You sound like you know yourself very well.

There is that, but it goes much deeper. In how we follow the Force. Due to the nature of our abilities we must be careful in how we live our lives.

A misstep could result in a Jedi going down a very dark path. To the point that he uses his power for his own selfish purposes, and even causes harm. I have seen it before.

That being said, finding a mate and having children is not the only way to love.

Well, duh, not everybody wants to get married and have kids, I just meant if you DID.

So. You get magic powers because you're special, and it means you have special responsibilities. That I do understand.

I'm not like, anti-everything you're saying, incidentally. I'm just trying to understand since it seems like there's a few of you.

[Obi-Wan sighs softly at that. He had been trying very hard to help this fellow understand. But it seemed he was failing spectacularly.]

I realize that. Not to worry, I’m not offended.

However, no one can have everything they want in life. Being a part of something means adhering to certain rules and standards. Sometimes sacrifices have to be made for a greater calling. I made my choice, as many other Jedi did. That is at least one thing I don’t regret.

Okay, good. [Obi-Wan is actually doing a better job than he thinks; Kyle just argues with people and examines everything, it's how he's built.]

No, I know. And honestly it sounds like you're doing it to help a lot of people.

That is ultimately the purpose of a Jedi. To seek harmony with the Force and to help bring balance. Helping others and bringing peace to the galaxy is the best way we know how.

We are mediators, negotiators, ambassadors, and defenders of those who can’t defend themselves. By living selflessly, we help make it possible for others to live the lives they want to live.

[Kyle smiles. It makes him look even dorkier, somehow, but it's a very genuine expression.]

I think that's pretty great, Mr. Kenobi. And although I think it's going to take me a while to really understand you guys, I do wanna say that I think that as a society we ought to support you guys and your temple.

Also you're pretty cool.

[Obi-Wan just kind of blinks at that. This fellow seems to be all over the place.

... He was being tested wasn’t he? ]

[This is said softly. He is a bit humbled at the kind words. Though he’s not certain what his temperature has to do with anything.]

Any support means more than you could know.

Well, it's like I was saying to the other dude, it sure seems like there's enough of you guys that no matter what you wind up doing here, it's going to have an effect on how we all work together to rebuild society on this planet. Like, whether or not I agree with Jedis not being able to get married is irrelevant, what's important is understanding the basic moral code and view of the universe that you guys have.

Well, to be quite honest.

It wouldn’t be the first time a group of Jedi have found themselves stranded on a planet they couldn’t leave.

Sometimes certain traditions and principles must be shed or altered for the purpose of survival and adapting. I believe the same will be the case here. However that may be, our core values I hope to keep intact. Thus you can be sure we will support everyone else as well.

Well, I just mean you shouldn't have to adapt on our account, you know? Because your values will help shape all of whatever we wind up doing here.

Though it would be the same if it was only us here. After the Purge, we had to do that as well. The other fellow, Ezra, is proof of that. He never knew the Order as I did. It doesn’t exist in his time.

At least he has you now, though. That's gotta be comforting for you both.

It doesn’t erase the pain of what have both lost, but yes. It is comforting to be among my kind again.
