[Someone has been gone for quite awhile. He disappeared sometime during the whole Valentine fiasco and is only just now showing back up again. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to think he had left this world altogether, but nope he’s still here! Obi-Wan had simply gone outside the city into the Wilderness to be alone and meditate. Needing the time to think and sort things out in his mind with a little help from the Force.

So maybe you will be surprised when you see his face again? He looks no worse for wear, though he is ready to take a shower for sure.]

I apologize for my lengthy absence. It was needed so that I could have some time to think.

Many of you have come to know me as Ben Kenobi, and I regret to say that’s not entirely correct. My actual name is Obi-Wan Kenobi. I had changed my name in order to protect myself before even arriving here. I’m certain many of you will understand my caution as you know the history of the Jedi. However, I have decided such measures are not needed here.

When I first came here, the only members of my kind were myself and Cal. Since then, there are now four of us. Which is largely what brought about my extended leave. I don’t know why so many of us have been brought to this place, but I hadn’t expected to be around so many ever again.

All of us have known what it’s like to be alone. To be hunted and in hiding, living each day with a threat looming over us. There is no reason that should be so as long as we are here. No matter our past struggles, we are still Jedi, and here we don’t have to hide that fact.

Seeing as I was once a member of the High Council, it would be expected of me to see to the safety and well-being of all the Jedi here. I intend to live up to that expectation. I wish to find a place that we can call our own. A temple if you will. Where we can gather, learn, and perhaps even live together. As the only master among us, I have decided to also make myself available for teaching. It won’t exactly be conventional, but these are unconventional times.

Thus I would like to speak with all of you regarding this. And you as well, Mandalorian. We have a great deal to discuss.

Oh... and before I forget. Can anyone explain this?

[Obi-Wan then turns his device to show a giant feathered lizard wearing a saddle and bridle, chewing on leaves not too far away.]

I found her just before I left.

No clue where she came from. She's beautiful. [He is all wide-eyed earnestness, as he's distracted by the image of the lizard. But that fades into an uncertain sort of solemnity, as he considers the rest of Master Kenobi's words]

Can I come speak to you, Master Kenobi? Face to face? It-it doesn't have to be right now. [It's admirable for Master Kenobi to have put this message out in public, he thinks. Not surprising, given that message from the temple beacon Master Kenobi had sent out; the recording of that message on Kanan
s holocron was in many ways the bedrock of Ezra's understanding of what it means to be a Jedi. But he's not sure that he himself is brave enough - in control of his emotions enough - to give a proper response that everyone can see.]

That she is.

[Its said with a fondness for the creature, though he pauses when Ezra’s tone becomes more serious.]

Of course. I’m on my way to the hangar if you care to meet me there.

Good to hear from you, Master Kenobi.

[The extended absence hadn't concerned him too much, but he's taken time away from others himself, especially after the jarring experience of that last storm.]

I think there's a lot of unclaimed areas in the southwestern side of the city. There's an amphitheater there that some of us use to train in since it's got a lot of space, but that's about the most that's been made consistent use of these days.

[He has to grin at the creature that Obi-Wan reveals.]

Maybe the Agrii brought her in. You had a varactyl?

And you as well, Cal. I hope you have been well while I’ve been gone.

That amphithere sounds worth taking a look at the very least. Especially if it has a lot of space. I admit I’ve grown a bit tired of living on a ship.

[It was cramped and didn’t exactly have the privacy he was used to.]

Well, she wasn’t mine, exactly. I borrowed her during my mission on Utapau. It... was during the Purge actually. We have been through a lot together.

Thanks. [His relief is near palpable.] I'm on my way. [And with that he signs off and heads towards the hangar.]

He skids from a light jog in front of the hangar. "A temple, huh?" he says, lightly, once he's in earshot of Master Kenobi. "I don't know what a lived-in temple is even supposed to be like."

[Cal chuckles a little.]

Oh, it's got... a lot of space. Maybe more than we'd know what to do with. But there's plenty of uninhabited buildings around in general.

[He nods slowly, the hesitation in bringing up that particular event not going unnoticed, but he suspects it's going to be like that a lot between them. Neither of them wants to bring it up willingly, but it comes up all too easily sometimes.]

Well, she looks like she's enjoying herself at least.

Oh, I’m certain we can manage. The temple on Coruscant wasn’t small by any means either.

[He might be joking, but there is an undercurrent of sadness as he thinks of it. The Temple had been his home, he missed it, and nothing here would ever truly replace it.]

I think you’re right. This world is very different from the one she is used to, but she’s adapting rather well.

[Mando had started to wonder, accept nothing would happen. People disappear from this place unexpectedly. So seeing him on the feed suddenly, definitely catches his attention.

Even though he's not Jedi, Mando's seeing, and feeling, the parallels in what Obi-wan says. About the hiding, looking over your shoulder for danger all the time. Too close to home of his days in the Covert on Nevarro.]

Kenobi. [He nods to him, as the feed comes on.] When...did you want to meet? [His voice through the vocoder is even, even if inwardly he's anything but.] To discuss.

[He pauses as he eyes that feathered beast, not one he's seen before.]

The Agrii gave you a mount, too?

Ezra will find Obi-Wan leading his Varactyl friend into the hangar. The Jedi pausing to look in the young man’s direction with a smile as he comes over.

“Well, they came in many shapes and sizes. Though the main temple was on Coruscant and quite large. I’m not certain how well we can replicate that here, but hopefully I can help you get an idea of it.”

[Cal has his own vague recollections of temple life. It seems like so long ago, another lifetime. In some ways, maybe it was. He forces a smile. It's been too long for him to really be homesick, but then it just reminds him that he hasn't really had a place he considered home in a long time.]

I'm glad she was brought after the whole...spider incident.

"There was a temple on Lothal. Where I grew up," he adds, in case Master Kenobi hadn't seen the network conversations where he'd introduced himself. "But it was hidden - you had to have at least two Jedi using the Force to even open the place and enter. There was power there-"

He hesitates, as he remembers that 'was' really is the correct tense. He'd destroyed the last part of it. All gone now.

He swallows. "Not sure that it was ever the sort of place people actually lived."

[Ah, there he is. The man that Obi-Wan had hoped would see this sooner rather than later.]

Whenever you like. I’m on my way back to the hangar. If you’re on the ship we can discuss it now.

[A brow raises slightly though at what Mando says next.]

Too? Am I to assume you found a creature from our galaxy wandering around as well?

As am I. That would have been quite the ordeal for her.

[It had been hard enough to deal with the spiders. Dealing with a crazed Varactyl would have been even worse.]

Though I sense you’re evading the topic of my post a bit. How do you feel about it, Cal?

“On Lothal... yes, I do know about it,” Obi-Wan said contemplatively. “You’re right that it’s not one any Jedi would live in save perhaps those maintaining it. It was more for the purpose of pilgrimages. Admittedly I’ve never been to it. Such trips were a luxury in the years during and leading up to the Clone Wars.”

He didn’t miss Ezra’s choice of words or hesitation. The Jedi thinking it best to let him reveal what he wanted in his own time.

[He manages to suppress a cringe at being called out on that. Was it so obvious?]

Honestly? I'm...not sure. Don't get me wrong, I've been hoping for something like this in the longest time. Maybe just not under these circumstances. ...and in more familiar territory.

And then maybe it's just that I've gotten so used to being on my own.

[He IS a Jedi Master Cal. Plus he’s had a bit of experience with young Jedi struggling with their feelings.]

It’s fine, my young friend. Your feelings on the matter are only natural.

Perhaps it was a bit presumptive of me to bring it up that way. Though I felt it best to put the idea out there for all of you at once to consider.

The choice is yours, of course.

[And if it didn’t work out, it didn’t. They were still all Jedi just trying to get by as well as they could. There was no rush on it either.]

"I went there a few times. The first time - Kanan hadn't been teaching me for very long, and I pushed myself hard, trying to protect us when we'd gotten cornered by an Inquisitor." He lifts his chin a little, determined to own up to his mistake. "I know now I both overextended and brushed the Dark Side. Kanan was scared for me. So we went to the temple to try to help me find my path. Although he called it a test."

A flicker of a smile crosses his face. "Somehow Master Yoda was able to reach out to us. He guided me to a kyber crystal. Called me a padawan and told me-" Ezra continues, in a passable imitation, "A Jedi you may yet be."

Oh Bee One? Really?

It does seem kind of sudden. But at the same time I can understand the reasoning. And I know I'm hardly finished with my training.

It hasn't even been until recently that I really reconnected with all the things I did learn. [He laughs weakly.] And then things happened that made me feel like I was back where I started from. I think I'm in a lot better place since then, but I'm still working at a lot of things.

I'm willing to find and help set up a place though. And maybe we can see how things go from there.

I don't know the history or what a Jedi is but- as long as you're here we'll look out for you.

As Ezra spoke, Obi-Wan was a bit enamored. To know that a young Jedi could have such experiences even in their time was truly amazing. It gave him hope for Luke and his future.

Instead of just standing there though, he motioned for Ezra to follow him so that they could sit on a couple nearby empty crates. The varactyl taking the cue as well and laying her large self down on the floor, legs splayed out.

“Every Jedi has a brush with the dark side at some time or another. Overcoming it is a true mark of growth. Such words from Master Yoda, that’s truly a compliment.”

Somehow, he’s not surprised the old master had managed to contact Ezra.

Yes, really. Is that so strange?

Well, not so much for me I suppose. It all came about because I was asked to train Grogu. An idea that I have, admittedly, struggled with.

But I believe that the Force is directing me to help him. Though not just him, but rather all of you.

I believe that’s a very reasonable approach, and I’m happy to have your help. We may need to put your replicator to work too.

Just know. Wherever you may be, Cal, you will have my support. No matter what you decide.

All I ask is that others take caution with people who come here from our galaxy. There are many that would seek to destroy us. I for one would like to be prepared if they do show up.

[He smiles faintly.]
