[Someone has been gone for quite awhile. He disappeared sometime during the whole Valentine fiasco and is only just now showing back up again. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to think he had left this world altogether, but nope he’s still here! Obi-Wan had simply gone outside the city into the Wilderness to be alone and meditate. Needing the time to think and sort things out in his mind with a little help from the Force.

So maybe you will be surprised when you see his face again? He looks no worse for wear, though he is ready to take a shower for sure.]

I apologize for my lengthy absence. It was needed so that I could have some time to think.

Many of you have come to know me as Ben Kenobi, and I regret to say that’s not entirely correct. My actual name is Obi-Wan Kenobi. I had changed my name in order to protect myself before even arriving here. I’m certain many of you will understand my caution as you know the history of the Jedi. However, I have decided such measures are not needed here.

When I first came here, the only members of my kind were myself and Cal. Since then, there are now four of us. Which is largely what brought about my extended leave. I don’t know why so many of us have been brought to this place, but I hadn’t expected to be around so many ever again.

All of us have known what it’s like to be alone. To be hunted and in hiding, living each day with a threat looming over us. There is no reason that should be so as long as we are here. No matter our past struggles, we are still Jedi, and here we don’t have to hide that fact.

Seeing as I was once a member of the High Council, it would be expected of me to see to the safety and well-being of all the Jedi here. I intend to live up to that expectation. I wish to find a place that we can call our own. A temple if you will. Where we can gather, learn, and perhaps even live together. As the only master among us, I have decided to also make myself available for teaching. It won’t exactly be conventional, but these are unconventional times.

Thus I would like to speak with all of you regarding this. And you as well, Mandalorian. We have a great deal to discuss.

Oh... and before I forget. Can anyone explain this?

[Obi-Wan then turns his device to show a giant feathered lizard wearing a saddle and bridle, chewing on leaves not too far away.]

I found her just before I left.

I was thinking of the method you mentioned for a kyber crystal substitution. The focus crystal I currently use is functional...but it has some side-effects.

Oh, yes.

I’m assuming the side effects are not ideal and you would like something more stable?

Well, it's fine so long as I'm not around metal or active machinery. It um...gives things a power boost and makes metal glow when I activate it.

I can see why that might be a problem. Sounds as if your crystal is a bit too powerful, oddly enough.

If that’s what you would like, I can come help you configure your replicator to make a synthetic kyber.

Given what I've seen of the crystals in the caves, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Heh, I have a feeling that'll be the easy part. If you're not busy, I can meet you at the welcome center.

Of course.

Can I meet you there this evening? It seems I need to have some discussions with a few people before I'll be free.

[He raises a hand slightly with a nod.]

That's fine- no hurry. Just give me a head's up whenever you're free, then.

I will. Talk to you then.

[And eventually, probably a few hours later, he does send Cal a message before he begins heading over.]

[Cal makes way for the "whale comb sent her" after putting things away at the shop, BD-1 latched onto his harness behind him as usual. It's not a bad walk from the workshop at least.

Once he sees Obi-Wan he'll offer a wave and a smile.]

Hello Cal, BD.

[Obi-Wan greets them pleasantly as he steps into the center. Making his way toward the young Jedi and his droid companion.]

So, where would you like to start?

Hey Master Kenobi.

[He nods as they step inside, BD-1 chirping a hello. Cal gestures towards the replicator.]

I guess configuring it would be the best place to begin. Does it have to have a specific structure, or are we just asking for a crystal?

No, just any crystal won’t do. It has to have a specific matrix in order to conduct the power through the lightsaber.

[Taking off his lightsaber, he placed it on the table.]

Is the replicator able to make scans? That might help.

[Cal nods. That makes sense, and truthfully he hadn't expected anything less for something so special. He glances over his shoulder at BD-1, letting the droid hop down to the table.]

BeeDee can assist with that.

All right.

[Lifting his hands, Obi-Wan closed his eyes and focused. His weapon then slowly lifted off the table as the Jedi then began to carefully dismantle the lightsaber with the Force.

The glowing blue crystal inside then settled down on the table near the droid.]

Just be careful with it little one.

[Both padawan and droid watch as Obi-Wan dismantles the lightsaber before them. BD-1 hoots in awe before beeping a confirmation at the Jedi.

He edges around for a better angle of the crystal, one lens flickering before a beam of light is projected, playing across the blue as the droid scans it.]

[Opening his eyes again, Obi-Wan watches as the droid scans the crystal while nodding approvingly.]

I’m guessing that should at least give the replicator a blueprint of how the kyber crystal is structured.

Who knows, if this device is able to duplicate it well enough it might even be better than the synthetic crystals we have back home.

I didn't know we used synthetic crystals...

[Cal grins as BD-1 finishes his scanning. The droid borbles and then skitters over to the replicator to feed it the newly acquired data.]

Guess there's only one way to find out. We ready to go, BeeDee? All right then.

[The padawan glances from Obi-Wan to the machine then, speaking up to prompt it.]

A kyber crystal.

Generally it’s frowned upon, but sometimes there’s necessity for it.

[Though synthetic crystals were usually made outside the Order as the Jedi had claim to most sources.

Folding his arms, Obi-Wan then looked to the replicator as it did its thing. Waiting patiently to see what might come of it.]

[For a moment it looks like there's no response as the three look on. Then the replicator hums subtly, and in the usual space a clear crystal appears.

Cal hesitates before reaching out to pick the thing up. It looks notably unremarkable, save that the shape and cut are the same as Obi-Wan's crystal.]

Well...it looks like it's supposed to?

Hm.

[Obi-Wan hums in scrutiny as he places his hand just above the crystal in Cal’s hand.

Again he closed his eyes and focused on the created stone. As if searching for something inside of it.

But he found nothing. No singing. No life. It was a husk.]

It is essentially dead. Of course we can’t expect a machine to create a connection to the Force.

Though I have heard that Force manipulations are necessary when forging a synth crystal. That may be what is lacking. So... I have an idea.

[Cal doesn't really expect it to be a true kyber crystal, his nod confirming as much as Obi-Wan voices his thoughts. He tilts his head at the Jedi master.]

Well, I'm not sure how we could have used the Force especially with the way this machine produces things. So what's your idea?

No. From my understanding synth crystals take a few days to be formed with heat and pressure that simulate natural conditions of formation. Allowing for time to use the Force.

But since the replicator does it instantly we will need to try something else.

Those caves you mentioned. You said they heightened your abilities?

I see. That makes more sense.

[There's a pause at the mention of the caves, but Cal nods.]

Yes. Whatever source the crystals naturally connect to within the caves, they act as an amplifier.

[Obi-Wan nods as well.]

Go there. Take the stone with you and meditate. Try to pour as much energy from the Force as you can into it.

Perhaps, that might have the desired results.

[The thought makes him cringe.]

-I...don't think that will work, Master Kenobi.
