[Someone has been gone for quite awhile. He disappeared sometime during the whole Valentine fiasco and is only just now showing back up again. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to think he had left this world altogether, but nope he’s still here! Obi-Wan had simply gone outside the city into the Wilderness to be alone and meditate. Needing the time to think and sort things out in his mind with a little help from the Force.

So maybe you will be surprised when you see his face again? He looks no worse for wear, though he is ready to take a shower for sure.]

I apologize for my lengthy absence. It was needed so that I could have some time to think.

Many of you have come to know me as Ben Kenobi, and I regret to say that’s not entirely correct. My actual name is Obi-Wan Kenobi. I had changed my name in order to protect myself before even arriving here. I’m certain many of you will understand my caution as you know the history of the Jedi. However, I have decided such measures are not needed here.

When I first came here, the only members of my kind were myself and Cal. Since then, there are now four of us. Which is largely what brought about my extended leave. I don’t know why so many of us have been brought to this place, but I hadn’t expected to be around so many ever again.

All of us have known what it’s like to be alone. To be hunted and in hiding, living each day with a threat looming over us. There is no reason that should be so as long as we are here. No matter our past struggles, we are still Jedi, and here we don’t have to hide that fact.

Seeing as I was once a member of the High Council, it would be expected of me to see to the safety and well-being of all the Jedi here. I intend to live up to that expectation. I wish to find a place that we can call our own. A temple if you will. Where we can gather, learn, and perhaps even live together. As the only master among us, I have decided to also make myself available for teaching. It won’t exactly be conventional, but these are unconventional times.

Thus I would like to speak with all of you regarding this. And you as well, Mandalorian. We have a great deal to discuss.

Oh... and before I forget. Can anyone explain this?

[Obi-Wan then turns his device to show a giant feathered lizard wearing a saddle and bridle, chewing on leaves not too far away.]

I found her just before I left.

Ezra moves to one of the crates, and settled on it, sitting cross legged. He peers with a smile at the varactyl as she spreads out, and sends her a gentle pulse of greeting, through the Force.

He's quiet a moment, struggling to hold onto that fragile connection, and calm, as he gathers his thoughts. "We only talked that time, and once more, but I learned some important things from Master Yoda. And Ahsoka. Even that older version of you." He nods jerkily. "But I miss Kanan. I want him to be my master still. He did what he had to do to save me, and our family, and Lothal. I know that. But it still hurts. It's-it's barely had a chance to hurt less. Just a few days, before I got here."

He wipes at wet eyes. "I know I have a lot left to learn. I do want to." He doesn't want his emotions to get in the way. He's also almost dead certain they will, somehow. "I just thought, before you tried to teach me much of anything...you should know."

Tilting her head, the varactyl looks at Ezra curiously, recognizing him as someone like Obi-Wan. He would sense the intelligence the creature has, and her friendly and clever nature. As well as a loyalty that few creatures surpass.

Obi-Wan meanwhile listened quietly as Ezra spoke. His feelings were unmistakable, and were ones that the master could relate with. It’s because of that, he reaches out to place a gentle hand on the boy’s shoulder.

“It will always hurt to some degree,” the Jedi says softly, his voice compassionate and full of understanding. “Losing a master in such a way, and that bond you had with him, it’s one of the most painful experiences a young Jedi can have.” It hurts his heart to see another go through this, as he knows full well what it’s like.

“There is no replacing him Ezra, and I would never dare to try. That being said, I will be here for whatever you need.” He paused then, trying to find the words before continuing.

“Truth be told, I’m not certain I’m ready to train anyone again either. I lost my only student, in the worst possible way, and it still hurts also. I want him back just as badly.” He offered Ezra a sad smile. The boy had been honest with him, so he deserved to have him be honest too. “You should know that as well.”

He slumps a little, into that hand on his shoulder, grateful for the contact.

"Anakin," he says softly, but no question in his voice. "We had recordings of some of his lessons on lightsaber form. Ahsoka and Rex would talk about him. They missed him, too."

Lost in the worst way possible - maybe Master Kenobi does know what happened to Master Skywalker. That he didn't just die in the Purge.

There was a pause, and Obi-Wan nodded. “Yes,” he says softly, almost brokenly. “That’s how he should be remembered.” As being the Jedi he was, not that twisted being he had left on Mustafar.

“You know Rex as well?” That is a bit of a surprise to him. He’s a clone after all, and well, all the clones turned on the Jedi.

He lets the topic of Anakin go - again, and nudges a little closer so they are nearly sitting shoulder to shoulder.

"Yeah. There's a lot of details I don't know," he says apologetically. "But - I think he and Ahsoka saved each other somehow during the initial Purge. He'd been lying low with a couple of his clone brothers when I met him. They'd all taken their chips out. Ahsoka sent us to ask Rex to help us find a base and consider joining the rebellion. And he did. So I've known him several years. He and Gregor and Wolffe all volunteered to come with me to try to help free Lothal from the Imperial blockade. Which is what I hope I gave them all a chance to finish right before I got here." After a beat he adds, "I think they'd missed fighting alongside Jedi."

It's probably best to let that one go for now. Anakin was a subject not easily spoken of for Obi-Wan. Though as Ezra nudges closer, the Jedi puts his arm around the kid entirely.

"Well, that sounds like quite the story," Obi-Wan muses quietly. He has to wonder what exactly happened. Had Ahsoka managed to break Rex free of what the chip did to them? It wouldn't really surprise him. And three clones managing to get their chips out and band together was rather remarkable. He couldn't help but be a little proud of them.

"Gregor was one of my men, and Wolffe was with Master Plo Koon. They were all good soldiers and friends."

He relaxes a lot at the arm over his shoulder. The pale Jedi robes create a more austere image than he'd ever had of Kanan; he hadn't wanted to make Master Kenobi uncomfortable.

But clearly this is ok. It's good, even.

"Kanan had a really hard time trusting them at first. But he came around."

He clears his throat. "I want to help you, with a temple here. To learn some of the things my master didn't like to talk about because it was everything was different from when he was growing up. I guess that means I'm not the same sort of Jedi as there was under the Republic. But I would be...honored, if, while we're both here - for however long that is - if you'd help me progress in my training."

"I can't say that I blame him." Obi-Wan had been rather unsure of Echo himself when he had first arrived. However, it became clear that things were all right with the trooper. For which he was very glad.

This is clearly okay though. It wasn't something that Obi-Wan did on a regular basis, particularly when he tried to keep up a professional appearance as a Jedi. But there was no need for that here, and it seemed that Ezra could benefit from the contact. Perhaps they both could, actually.

The young Jedi's desire to help with the temple though drew a smile. A certain light coming to his eyes when he then went on to training. "The differences do not matter, my young friend. We are both Jedi, and that is what counts."

Maybe this could work. He had felt that pull to bring what few of them that were here together, while meditating in the wilderness. It must indeed be the will of the Force, as it seemed that everything was starting to come together. Even with his own personal misgivings, how could he ignore it?

"I too would be honored to help you with your training."

"Then that's a plan." He breaks into a real smile, but then another thought catches up with him.

"I met Cal and we talked some. Who's the fourth?"

Ezra's smile is mirrored back at him. It doesn't surprise him and Ezra and Cal have met and talked. They were peers after all, and rather similar in age.

"His name is Grogu. And... well. He looks like a miniature version of Master Yoda. I'm certain you will know him when you see him. He's usually accompanied by a Mandalorian."

"Oh." Ezra takes that in, eyes wide. "I know Master Yoda is really old. Do the kids of his kind grow on a different scale too?"

“Yes, actually. Their species is very slow to mature. Grogu was a youngling at the temple in my time, and he comes to us here from around your time I believe, and he is still what we would consider a toddler.”

It’s a bit hard to fathom for them consider their lifespans were so much shorter, but it was true.

"Then someone must have gotten him out and kept him hidden," Ezra realizes. "Can you tell if he remembers being at the temple?"

Obi-Wan nods, confirming what Ezra had guessed.

“I have been communicating with him, and yes, he does remember.”

Breathing out softly, thinking of Grogu’s memories brought back some of his own.

“He has a lot of fear from that time. Something I think he will need all of us to help him with.”

"Yes," Ezra agrees fervently, not entirely missing that Master Kenobi was feeling something pretty strongly too. "Even if he doesn't want to be a Jedi now, really. We should try to help him."

“He is conflicted, but I think in time he will remember his training and come around.”

Obi-wan smiled and gave Ezra a friendly clap on the back.

“I can be a teacher and a mentor, but he will need you and Cal as his friends and peers.”

He then stood up and looked to the Twin Roses. “In fact, I am supposed to be meeting with him and his guardian to discuss his training.”

"Then don't let me keep you," Ezra replies, back to smiling. "May the Force be with you, Master Kenobi."

"And with you, young Ezra. We will talk again soon."

Leaving Boga where she was clearly comfortable, Obi-Wan made his way to the Twin Roses.
