[Open] November log
WHO: Link and you!
WHERE: Temba, Sh'Ka, the Beach
WHAT: Link attempts to celebrate 'Halloween', searches for things Dustin left behind, and attempts to build a raft.
WHEN: Somewhere during November
WARNINGS: None so far
i. Treat or Treat?
One evening, as the people of Temba and Sh'Ka reside in their homes - wherever that may be - many will find that they suddenly have a pointy eared visitor. He hasn't bothered to knock, or make his presence known before entering. He's just walked - or climbed - right in without any hesitation.
Once inside, he'll find you. And then he'll hold out his hands a small package filled with small cakes, honeyed fruits, and candies.
"Treat," he says, as he presses the package towards you.
Link may have gotten a few of the details about how 'Halloween' was meant to work a little wrong. And also the date.
ii. Mementos from Dustin (cue Get Item sound effect)
Link missed Dustin.
The other teen had been grumpy. Constantly irritable. Downright unfriendly really, most of the time. And yet...Link had still liked him. He'd been a friend, even if Link doubted Dustin would ever admit that.
But Dustin was gone now. Link wasn't sure where. But Link felt...compelled, to try and do something to look after what Dustin left behind.
Most of it was under rubble. But Link was stubborn enough to shift all the debris and rubble that was once Dustin's workshop, and search some of Dustin's other hiding places. Not that Dustin had told Link where his hiding places were. But Link spent a lot of time climbing up the sides of buildings. You could see a lot, that way.
Eventually, Link's luck and stubbornness pays off. From within the rubble, he pulls free his prize - a large sack. Reaching inside, he pulls forth an exiting find - large volcanic rocks, and clippings from plants. He holds one of the rocks, making a soft noise of appreciation as he admires it's shiny surface. Treasure!
iii. Get the duct tape, we're building a raft
One day, while at the beach, Link looked out at the ocean. Looked at those islands, just barely visible off in the distance. And wondered, what's over there?
And of course, now that he'd wondered, he just had to find out.
Over a few days, Link could be seen pulling all sorts of things to the beach. Logs from trees he'd chopped down with the Master Sword when Zelda wasn't looking. Rope he's scrounged up. Large, massive leaves from the greenhouse.
When he starts using the rope to tie everything together, it won't be difficult at all for an observer to tell what Link's building: a raft.
[[ooc note: If you'd like your character to explore the islands with Link, feel free to have them express IC interest here! Alternatively, you can just let me know oocly that you'd like to get involved - PM, discord and plurk are all good. Once I know who's in and have the info from the mods, I'll put up a separate log for the actual exploration.]]

But maybe it's just something about the tone of voice, something about the words that are all too close to a reprimand. They feel familiar, even though he can't remember how.
And in unconscious response, his posture stiffens. What traces of emotion there were on his face disappear, replaced by a blank mask. And he nods; a short sharp, militaristic gesture.
He does not say anything.
no subject
"Good. Glad that's settled."
no subject
Say nothing, the voice says. Don't say the wrong thing. You can't say something wrong if you never say anything at all. Say nothing, say nothing, say nothing.
Link stands there, and doesn't say anything. He's not sure the words would even come if he tried.
no subject
"Right, this thing. So can I open it? If we're making up our own spins on holidays we make up the rules too, right?" He tugs at the wrapping.
"-I don't have any treats to give in turn though. Um, I have some pizza though. Don't know if you tried it yet."
no subject
He wants to say something, about the pizza. Wants to know more about how it was made. But when he goes to speak, he's still...hesitant. Still feels like saying anything would be wrong.
So he says nothing, and shakes his head. No, he hasn't tried pizza. But he does want to.
no subject
"The oven's working now, it's by the diner. The toppings aren't quite the same as what I'm used to, but it's still certifiably pizza."
He holds the plate out for Link to take a slice, veggies mostly, with a liberal amount of sliced baconrooms as the main topping. But once Link's taken a slice, Donnie's opening that package right up!
no subject
And immediately stuffs it into his face. Followed by a pleased, approving noise as he chews. It’s good!
no subject
He picks out one of the cakes from his package, taking a nibble. "Mmmf, did you make these?"
no subject
Well, now Link's going to have to go and try all sorts of things. Once he figures out the recipe, that is. Donnie's already mentioned some ingredients, he could probably figure it out. Eventually.
He doesn't quite feel so much like he can't say any words, anymore. Not that he's in a rush to start speaking - if he can answer with a quick, enthusiastic nod, he will. And he does.
Link did make these.
no subject
"Oh man, I'm so glad I'm not dreaming right now because these are delicious."
no subject
And he looks very, very pleased that Donnie is enjoying them so much. He’s practically beaming. Donnie liked them!
no subject
no subject
"Creamy heart soup," he says, finally speaking again. "Veggie cream soup. Mushroom soup..."
no subject
no subject
But if Donnie doesn't want to try it, that's okay. There's still the other soups.
no subject
"Wouldn't be surprised if anything you make is tasty. Okay, so I have mostly dream experiences to go by but by these treats, I don't think I'd be disappointed."
no subject
"...Sometimes it's bad," he admits, sheepishly rubbing the back of his next with one hand. "If it's...new. With no recipe."
There was a long, long trail of very dubious dishes in Link's history. Having to figure out cooking by trial and error can sometimes mean an awful lot of error, especially in the beginning.

no subject
And speaking of food...
"Do you have more?" Because having had one slice of 'pizza', he now wants more.
no subject
Donnie blinks and then laughs, picking up the plate with the remaining pizza slices. "Have at it!" he says, grinning.
no subject
Although hopefully Donnie wasn't wanting any of those remaining slices, because Link is making short work of all of them.
no subject
Well, at least he's introduced someone to pizza, and this counts as a thorough win.
