[Open] November log
WHO: Link and you!
WHERE: Temba, Sh'Ka, the Beach
WHAT: Link attempts to celebrate 'Halloween', searches for things Dustin left behind, and attempts to build a raft.
WHEN: Somewhere during November
WARNINGS: None so far
i. Treat or Treat?
One evening, as the people of Temba and Sh'Ka reside in their homes - wherever that may be - many will find that they suddenly have a pointy eared visitor. He hasn't bothered to knock, or make his presence known before entering. He's just walked - or climbed - right in without any hesitation.
Once inside, he'll find you. And then he'll hold out his hands a small package filled with small cakes, honeyed fruits, and candies.
"Treat," he says, as he presses the package towards you.
Link may have gotten a few of the details about how 'Halloween' was meant to work a little wrong. And also the date.
ii. Mementos from Dustin (cue Get Item sound effect)
Link missed Dustin.
The other teen had been grumpy. Constantly irritable. Downright unfriendly really, most of the time. And yet...Link had still liked him. He'd been a friend, even if Link doubted Dustin would ever admit that.
But Dustin was gone now. Link wasn't sure where. But Link felt...compelled, to try and do something to look after what Dustin left behind.
Most of it was under rubble. But Link was stubborn enough to shift all the debris and rubble that was once Dustin's workshop, and search some of Dustin's other hiding places. Not that Dustin had told Link where his hiding places were. But Link spent a lot of time climbing up the sides of buildings. You could see a lot, that way.
Eventually, Link's luck and stubbornness pays off. From within the rubble, he pulls free his prize - a large sack. Reaching inside, he pulls forth an exiting find - large volcanic rocks, and clippings from plants. He holds one of the rocks, making a soft noise of appreciation as he admires it's shiny surface. Treasure!
iii. Get the duct tape, we're building a raft
One day, while at the beach, Link looked out at the ocean. Looked at those islands, just barely visible off in the distance. And wondered, what's over there?
And of course, now that he'd wondered, he just had to find out.
Over a few days, Link could be seen pulling all sorts of things to the beach. Logs from trees he'd chopped down with the Master Sword when Zelda wasn't looking. Rope he's scrounged up. Large, massive leaves from the greenhouse.
When he starts using the rope to tie everything together, it won't be difficult at all for an observer to tell what Link's building: a raft.
[[ooc note: If you'd like your character to explore the islands with Link, feel free to have them express IC interest here! Alternatively, you can just let me know oocly that you'd like to get involved - PM, discord and plurk are all good. Once I know who's in and have the info from the mods, I'll put up a separate log for the actual exploration.]]

But rather than question it, he considers what to give York. York looks different from how he did in the Calibrations dream, but Link still knows it's him - and that he's a machine. Like a Guardian, but a person. If he can't give food, what can he give him?
"What do you...eat?" he asks. Is 'eat' the right word, for a person who is a machine?
no subject
He knows it's not a malicious question. A lot of people here don't know about androids because they're not from a world like York's. "I don't, actually. There's uh... ways to simulate it, but I don't have that kind of equipment installed. And I don't want that kind of equipment, either."
There's a little shrug at that.
no subject
Not to mention, the treats had been for York too. Or they were, until it turned out York couldn't have them.
"...Do you like nice rocks?" Link asks, after thinking a moment. "Or plants?"
no subject
"Plants are okay. They're more of my brother's thing than mine but... yeah. I like plants. Maybe small rocks. I doubt Richie wants to come in here and trip over boulders or something." York feels like he has to be specific with Link in case the guy really can pick up and deliver boulders.
Please don't put boulders in his hotel room, Link.
no subject
Then, with a determined nod, Link...climbs right back out the window.
Half an hour or so later, he's back - climbing in through that same window once more.
no subject
He leaves the window open this time and sits on the part of the bed closest. Thirty-seven minutes pass and here comes Link, right back through the window. York laughs.
"Also you're only supposed to go to a house once when you trick or treat. They really don't have Halloween where you're from, do they?"
no subject
Really, even if you weren’t meant to visit twice - well, that was a rule Link would happily ignore. He couldn’t just not get anything for York, after all.
no subject
And they’re all like he had said he liked. Stuff his brother liked, but he’s York‘s favorite brother so it works out for him.
"…You really got me a gift. Treats, I guess." The android look at the elf. "Why though?"
no subject
"...It's nice?" he says, with a faintly baffled air.
no subject
"Sorry. Someone getting me shit and being nice is still... weird sometimes. I know that's probably weird as fuck to say but you saw my memory from the calibrations bullshit." He reaches in and pulls out the plant clippings. "These are nice though. Definitely something my brother would give me back home."
no subject
But if it wasn't normal for York…well, Link would just have to make it normal.
“…I’ll give you more,” he says. “‘Til it’s not weird.”
There could now be many, many random gifts of rocks and plants in your future now, York.
no subject
He gives Link a smirk before leaning against the wall. "Just uh, don't try breaking and entering. You'd spook Richie and I don't want to deal with the aftermath of that."
no subject
Then he says, "Okay," and starts climbing back out the window. Whether or not he will actually visit via the door and not the window next time will remain to be seen.
no subject
"You dropping things off at other places? Or was I the last stop?" He walks over to keep an eye on Link. In case he falls and needs assistance or something.
no subject
"I'm...not?"
All he'd been doing was leaving. He does that all the time. Sometimes even more abruptly than he was doing now.
Then he shakes his head - no, York wasn't the last stop. Still perched halfway out the window, and apparently not at all bothered to stay for longer in the awkward position, he reaches one arm around to flip open the string bag slung over his back. Inside, there's more little packages - just like the one he just dropped off.
no subject
He points to it like it's not obvious. And then goes over to look at the little parcels in Link's bag. "Oh. Yeah, it'll probably be easier to go door to door instead of climbing around like a goat."
no subject
"...I like climbing," he says. Maybe the door was easier - but it wasn't particularly fun, was it?
no subject
It's a question, but he's not going to try to stop Link. Not that he could if he wanted to. "Thanks for the plants at least. I'll let Richie know you left gifts for him. Honestly this is like Santa for Christmas, instead of Halloween. Or maybe this is a new spin to combine the two since we don't have either here on Temba."
no subject
Just as he's about to hop out of the window, however, York makes reference to another holiday Link's never heard of.
"...Santa for Christmas?"
no subject
He blinks and pulls up information. "Uh, yeah. I don't know if you celebrate a different holiday because there are so many in the winter, but corporation Christmas involves some magical old man named Santa Claus that goes from house to house via a magical sled pulled by reindeer. He magics his way into the house to leave presents for children all in the span of one night. But there's other holidays. Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Yule along with Christmas are the big ones that I know of."
no subject
And none of the names York listed off sound familiar. Even if he doesn't remember something, usually he still knows words if he's heard them before.
"I...don't think we have those?"
no subject
"Oh. I think people celebrate it all differently. Some are religious, others celebrate it as the longest and darkest night of the year. We only exchanged gifts in my family. New parts, clothes and such. This is kind of what you're doing, but that's not a bad thing. Just... an observation I'm making. Do they have anything similar where you're from?"
no subject
But when York asks about whether there's any similar celebration in Link's world, he pauses. "I...don't know?"
no subject
He raises a brow and makes a face before he can stop his programming from doing so. "You don't know? But you're from... your world. How would you not know if there's a winter holiday?"
no subject
And slept for 100 years. Even if he could remember what people celebrated at winter - who knew how much those traditions would have changed?
