Padawan Lost

WHO: Cal Kestis, BD-1 and you! OTA
WHERE: Temba and beyond..?
WHAT: Lost padawan trying to get his bearings by keeping busy.
WHEN: Start of Feb. Event
WARNINGS: Jedi: Fallen Order spoilers? (If you'd rather I keep it vague, let me know in comment)
OTHER: I dunno if anything will come up, but just an obligatory head's up, please see Cal's permissions, particularly regarding his psychometry skill.

"The obstacles in your path define the path. What stands in the way becomes the way."

His master's words echoed in his mind, but Cal wouldn't let his thoughts delve any deeper than that, shaking his head as though to physically disperse them. Ever since he'd woken up in this strange, empty place, he'd felt just as lost as he had five years ago, back when things just suddenly changed.

And now he was back at square one again, without a lightsaber, without a direction. Well maybe not necessarily lacking in direction. He was still puzzling over the information overload. Where did one even begin with something like that? How did you find a path when you weren't even sure exactly what the obstacle was?

The electronic hoot in his ear had the padawan turn his head to glance at the little droid perched behind him, his head peering over his shoulder. Even Cal had to smile at that. At least he wasn't alone this time. Thank the Force for small favors.

"...so what do you think, BeeDee?" he asked as they wandered. For now it seemed prudent to follow what passed for streets, and every now and then the little droid would scan things here and there to compile into a map. BD-1 offered beeps of concern, and Cal really couldn't fault him. "Yeah... Not sure I like this either. Something doesn't feel right."

Flickers of movement, visions? Echoes? The would-be Jedi wasn't quite sure what he was seeing, or what he thought he'd seen. BD-1 didn't seem to register anything unusual at all, although in the distance, something however did draw the exploration droid's attention. Were those...ships entering the atmosphere?

The two exchanged a look, and without further encouragement, Cal started in the direction of what he assumed was a landing pad.

((OOC: Interactions don't have to happen directly after ships land, I just wanted to establish a set-up for the kid. So if you're about because you'd rather not tackle the storm or whatnot, cool! Cal will be heading out to investigate stormnanigans as well, but I'll wait to get to that bridge before crossing it.))

After the ships landed, a tall, blonde teenage boy was one of the first to un-board. Despite having spent a good amount of time on spaceships before, including a memorable couple of months where he practically lived on one while trying to evade an inter-dimensional parasite, Teddy wasn't a huge fan of space travel. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that two separate alien nations either wanted to kill him or kidnap him at any given moment. Or maybe it was the fact that he was born and raised in a large city, and he just preferred having solid ground beneath his feet.

Either way, it was a big relief to be off that ship and its cramped quarters. He stretched his arm up above his head, working out the kinks in his back, as he scanned his surroundings. Movement ahead caught his gaze, drawing his focus to the figure of the young man approaching.

Huh. Someone new? He raised a hand, offering the other guy a wave. That should show that he's friendly.

"Hi there. You coming to help out with the storm? We're stocking supplies first, so it'll be a little while before take off."

Right. This guy had missed out on the dubious honor of direct contact from the Agrii, explaining the storm and their newfound mission. Teddy wasn't sure he even fully understood what was going on, being a recent arrival himself. But he could manage a brief re-cap.

"We got a message from the Agrii--our new alien overlords or whatever--about a storm coming in south of Temba. Apparently the storm can kill the Agrii, but for some reason they think it won't hurt us. They want us to investigate, find out what's causing the storm. Stop it."

Teddy said it all very casually, like this was just another day. As he finished speaking his eyes darted to the other guy's shoulder, where something was poking its head out.

"Is that a robot? Awesome."

Teddy shrugged. "They didn't give much in the way of specifics. It was basically summed up as it kills Agrii but not heroes. The heroes being us. And they didn't leave us a way to ask any questions."

It sounded dangerous, made even more so because of how much they didn't know. But Teddy was used to getting caught up in things without having all, or any, of the pertinent information. And they wouldn't get any closer to fixing this planet if they all decided to just stay away from the storm.

Once the introductions began Teddy's smile returned. "Nice to meet you both. I'm Teddy Altman. I arrived here not too long ago, so I guess we're the new guys."

He nodded, his smile fading just a bit. "Yeah. Heroes. Because we're supposed to save their planet and all. Would have been nice to be asked first, right?"

It wasn't as if his home was filled to the brim with people who would have been happy to help out the Agrii if only they had been made aware of their situation. But no, kidnapping and holding people hostage was a great way to restore a planet.

"Well, I can't really give you much of a tour. I was only here for a short time before the Agrii sent me on to meet the others. But I can help you get in touch with some of the people who are staying, if you want. You probably need some time to settle in."

"I don't think they really care? Like, they're not giving us much of a choice either way. We could refuse to help, but the best we'd accomplish is getting trapped here until the Agrii find others who will help."

For what it was worth, Teddy didn't think the Agrii meant any actual harm. They were desperate and acting selfishly, but he couldn't entirely blame them for that.

"Oh, I should also mention they have some kind of power dampener they're using on us. So if you have any special abilities they might not work the same way, or be as strong."

He figured it couldn't hurt to give him a heads up rather than let the other man find out the hard way.

"Yeah. No idea how we're going to fix it yet, but I guess we'll figure that part out." He jerked a thumb back towards the ship he had stepped out of earlier. "You can catch a ride with us if you want? Not everyone is going, so we have some extra space."

"They care about their planet being saved, of course. But I don't think they care about how we feel about having to help them. Hence the no choice given."

The power dampener was a complete drag and yet another thing that Teddy could barely wrap his head around. The Agrii seemed to have powerful resources at their disposal and yet they needed outside help to save themselves. It wasn't adding up. "I'm not entirely sure they know we can do anything. It's not like they left instructions beyond us apparently being able to survive the storm. As far as figuring it out goes, we're on our own."

The list of questions he had was growing longer by the minute, and he could only hope that some of them would be answered soon. Maybe if they managed to stop the storm the Agrii would be more likely to contact them again and give some of those answers.

"Yeah. We need food for the trip. And other basic necessities. Not sure how long we'll be out there, but we should grab enough for a couple of days."

"I've been told where the extra supplies and rations are kept. Haven't been there before, or really anywhere around here, but I think we can manage."

Luckily, he'd been given pretty easy to follow directions.

"Let's go!" He started off past the ships, walking at an easy enough pace that Cal would be able to catch up.

"Yeah, it should all be in a storage room down this street. It'll probably take us a couple of trips going back and forth."

His super strength would help things move a little faster, but he still only had two hands to work with and at least two to three ships needing supplies.

After walking past several buildings, Teddy finally slowed to a stop in front of a smaller building. "I think this is it."

Teddy nodded and pushed open the door. The room was organized with boxes of rations pushed to one side and stacked together. Other extra supplies had their own spots including boxes with spare clothing, blankets, and whatever else the other heroes had been able to scavenge from the abandoned buildings.

Walking over to one of the boxes of clothes, Teddy reached inside and started looking through it. "I don't know about you, but I'm definitely going to need some new clothes soon. This seems like a good place to start."

He then nodded towards the rations. "We'll take a couple boxes of those and leave the rest for those staying behind. We might be getting some fresh produce to take as well. A friend of mine told me he does some gardening. If there's anything ready to take we might get some variety at least."

"I get it. It's a lot to take in, and I've had a couple weeks to process. Which is also why I know you're going to want a change of clothes soon. If only to have something to wear when you wash those ones." He pulled a couple of shirts from the box, holding them up.

He shook his head. "I can't give you an exact number. But I know that the ships hold a crew of five each and we have six of those. I've also heard that we've lost a few people who were here."

Teddy laughed at the sight of the little droid diving head first into the clothing. "He does know that none of that is for him, right? I doubt we'd find anything in his size."

He frowned down at the clothing he was sorting through. Unfortunately, there wasn't much else he could say on this topic either. "They disappear. Here one minute, gone the next. At least that's what I heard. They were probably returned home." At least he hoped so.

Teddy shrugged. "Eh, there are weirder hobbies. At least someone can enjoy themselves." He pulled out a couple of decent shirts that looked to be his size, and a faded pair of pants that he shook out and added to the pile.

He tried not to think too hard about the people who have left. It's not like he could do anything for them here. He could only hope they're better off.

Glancing at the item the droid had found, he laughed again. "Aw, come on. It could be your color."

He set his small pile of clothing off to the side, figuring he'll be back for it later after the rations have been moved. They could probably manage the trip with just five of the boxes, leaving the rest of those staying behind. By himself, Teddy could probably carry two at a time, but he didn't want to take all of the work after asking Cal to help him.

"Yeah, we better get started. Can you manage one of the boxes on your own?" Not that Teddy doubted he could, but the boxes were pretty heavy. If they needed to carry in tandem, better to know now.
