Padawan Lost

WHAT: Lost padawan trying to get his bearings by keeping busy.

"The obstacles in your path define the path. What stands in the way becomes the way."

His master's words echoed in his mind, but Cal wouldn't let his thoughts delve any deeper than that, shaking his head as though to physically disperse them. Ever since he'd woken up in this strange, empty place, he'd felt just as lost as he had five years ago, back when things just suddenly changed.

And now he was back at square one again, without a lightsaber, without a direction. Well maybe not necessarily lacking in direction. He was still puzzling over the information overload. Where did one even begin with something like that? How did you find a path when you weren't even sure exactly what the obstacle was?

The electronic hoot in his ear had the padawan turn his head to glance at the little droid perched behind him, his head peering over his shoulder. Even Cal had to smile at that. At least he wasn't alone this time. Thank the Force for small favors.

"...so what do you think, BeeDee?" he asked as they wandered. For now it seemed prudent to follow what passed for streets, and every now and then the little droid would scan things here and there to compile into a map. BD-1 offered beeps of concern, and Cal really couldn't fault him. "Yeah... Not sure I like this either. Something doesn't feel right."

Flickers of movement, visions? Echoes? The would-be Jedi wasn't quite sure what he was seeing, or what he thought he'd seen. BD-1 didn't seem to register anything unusual at all, although in the distance, something however did draw the exploration droid's attention. Were those...ships entering the atmosphere?

The two exchanged a look, and without further encouragement, Cal started in the direction of what he assumed was a landing pad.

((OOC: Interactions don't have to happen directly after ships land, I just wanted to establish a set-up for the kid. So if you're about because you'd rather not tackle the storm or whatnot, cool! Cal will be heading out to investigate stormnanigans as well, but I'll wait to get to that bridge before crossing it.))

"So what sort of abilities do you have?" It seemed a reasonable thing to ask, given what Teddy said.

Cal nodded his agreement on that point. It never hurt to be prepared, and old habits aligned with common sense in that it was a bad idea to be caught flat-footed on an alien planet. At least that much was made clear; it wasn't safe here.

He could feel the strain in his concentration, but it wasn't so bad that he needed to relinquish his hold on the box. This would be a good exercise. Watching as Teddy picked up his own box, the padawan nodded. "Great. Let's get these back to the ship then."

"Shapeshifting, mostly. Though it might be easier to show you? Just...try not to freak out, okay?"

Teddy is aware that his Hulkling form can be a lot to take in at first. It can cause a stir of panic even among people from his own world with a less-than-great regard for his namesake the Hulk.

But he figures he's even Cal enough of a heads up. Between one blink and the next his body begins to grow a couple inches taller and his shoulders broaden even more, giving the box plenty of room to balance. Short, sharp claws grow from his finger tips, and a hardened shell grows over his shoulders like armored plating. But most notably, his green turns entirely green.

Once the transformation is completed he offers the other man a glance. "Sometimes I have wings. But I didn't want to freak you out too badly."

"Shapeshifting?" Cal exchanged a look with BD-1, then nodded back at Teddy as he let the box lower for a moment. There were shapeshifting species even in his neck of the galaxy so the idea wasn't entirely unheard of. All the same, he stepped back as Teddy began to change.

It wasn't terribly extreme a shift, but it was fascinating to watch. BD-1 skittered behind his leg, peering around with a curious hoot.

"Wow... That's impressive. Wings? Can you actually use them to fly?" Because that sounded pretty cool.

Teddy grins in relief at Cal's casual acceptance. It can be pretty nerve-wracking to reveal his form to people who don't know what to expect. He definitely prefers curiosity to screaming or panic.

"Yeah, I can. Want to see?" Without waiting for an answer, he's already sprouting large, green reptile-looking wings from his back.

The question was met with a grin even as Teddy began to go through with the change.

"Amazing. I can see how that could come in handy," Cal laughed. BD-1 beeped inquiringly at him and he nodded. "Yeah, like when we were trying to avoid being eaten by that giant beast on Dathomir. What was it called, a gorgara?"

"It comes in pretty handy. Not just for getting around places, but getting out of tight spots too."

Which is sounds like Cal and BD-1 know plenty about. "What the heck is a gorgara?"

They've had way too many close-calls that involved more airtime than one might be comfortable with.

At Teddy's question, BD-1 hops forward with a beep-hoot, one of his lenses glowing before he projects an image of an owl-like beast with leathery wings and dangerous looking talons.

"That," Cal nodded, "...is a gorgara. Hard to tell from this perspective but it was huge. Took me and BeeDee for a wild ride."
