Padawan Lost
WHO: Cal Kestis, BD-1 and you! OTA
WHERE: Temba and beyond..?
WHAT: Lost padawan trying to get his bearings by keeping busy.
WHEN: Start of Feb. Event
WARNINGS: Jedi: Fallen Order spoilers? (If you'd rather I keep it vague, let me know in comment)
OTHER: I dunno if anything will come up, but just an obligatory head's up, please see Cal's permissions, particularly regarding his psychometry skill.
"The obstacles in your path define the path. What stands in the way becomes the way."
His master's words echoed in his mind, but Cal wouldn't let his thoughts delve any deeper than that, shaking his head as though to physically disperse them. Ever since he'd woken up in this strange, empty place, he'd felt just as lost as he had five years ago, back when things just suddenly changed.
And now he was back at square one again, without a lightsaber, without a direction. Well maybe not necessarily lacking in direction. He was still puzzling over the information overload. Where did one even begin with something like that? How did you find a path when you weren't even sure exactly what the obstacle was?
The electronic hoot in his ear had the padawan turn his head to glance at the little droid perched behind him, his head peering over his shoulder. Even Cal had to smile at that. At least he wasn't alone this time. Thank the Force for small favors.
"...so what do you think, BeeDee?" he asked as they wandered. For now it seemed prudent to follow what passed for streets, and every now and then the little droid would scan things here and there to compile into a map. BD-1 offered beeps of concern, and Cal really couldn't fault him. "Yeah... Not sure I like this either. Something doesn't feel right."
Flickers of movement, visions? Echoes? The would-be Jedi wasn't quite sure what he was seeing, or what he thought he'd seen. BD-1 didn't seem to register anything unusual at all, although in the distance, something however did draw the exploration droid's attention. Were those...ships entering the atmosphere?
The two exchanged a look, and without further encouragement, Cal started in the direction of what he assumed was a landing pad.
((OOC: Interactions don't have to happen directly after ships land, I just wanted to establish a set-up for the kid. So if you're about because you'd rather not tackle the storm or whatnot, cool! Cal will be heading out to investigate stormnanigans as well, but I'll wait to get to that bridge before crossing it.))

"Heroes, huh." Cal's eyes drifted back towards the rest of the empty place. As much as he had questions, he doubted anyone else would know the answers if the Agrii limited communication with them. Brows lift as Teddy admits he hadn't been here all that much longer himself. It was something of an odd relief to hear.
"Guess so," Cal said, smiling crookedly. "Nice to meet you too, Teddy."
no subject
It wasn't as if his home was filled to the brim with people who would have been happy to help out the Agrii if only they had been made aware of their situation. But no, kidnapping and holding people hostage was a great way to restore a planet.
"Well, I can't really give you much of a tour. I was only here for a short time before the Agrii sent me on to meet the others. But I can help you get in touch with some of the people who are staying, if you want. You probably need some time to settle in."
no subject
Especially when they might have plenty of their own to deal with. Maybe a distraction was what Cal needed, but not like this.
"It's fine. I wasn't expecting much for a tour anyway. I'm figuring I may as well just jump into things. This storm's supposed to be something we have to fix somehow, right? And it'd be too easy to just let myself get lost in thoughts otherwise."
no subject
For what it was worth, Teddy didn't think the Agrii meant any actual harm. They were desperate and acting selfishly, but he couldn't entirely blame them for that.
"Oh, I should also mention they have some kind of power dampener they're using on us. So if you have any special abilities they might not work the same way, or be as strong."
He figured it couldn't hurt to give him a heads up rather than let the other man find out the hard way.
"Yeah. No idea how we're going to fix it yet, but I guess we'll figure that part out." He jerked a thumb back towards the ship he had stepped out of earlier. "You can catch a ride with us if you want? Not everyone is going, so we have some extra space."
no subject
What Teddy said next made him frown again. "Power dampener?" Was that why it seemed a little difficult at first to sense the Force when he'd arrived? How was that even possible? But then the same could be asked of their being brought here. "If they can do such things, but not handle whatever this storm is, then how do they expect us to do anything?"
There were probably going to be many questions they'd have to settle for being unanswered for the time being. Cal breathed out a sigh, trying to refocus himself. Trying to work out too much at once wouldn't get him anywhere. He looked back at the ship Teddy indicated, giving a nod.
"You said something about getting supplies? Let's do that first. We'll work it out from there."
no subject
The power dampener was a complete drag and yet another thing that Teddy could barely wrap his head around. The Agrii seemed to have powerful resources at their disposal and yet they needed outside help to save themselves. It wasn't adding up. "I'm not entirely sure they know we can do anything. It's not like they left instructions beyond us apparently being able to survive the storm. As far as figuring it out goes, we're on our own."
The list of questions he had was growing longer by the minute, and he could only hope that some of them would be answered soon. Maybe if they managed to stop the storm the Agrii would be more likely to contact them again and give some of those answers.
"Yeah. We need food for the trip. And other basic necessities. Not sure how long we'll be out there, but we should grab enough for a couple of days."
no subject
"Okay. Sounds doable." More so than the actual task they'd been given, anyway. "I...don't suppose you know where we're supposed to stock up, do you?" he asked as he looked around. If it wasn't one thing it was another. It was hard to get started on something when you didn't know where.
no subject
Luckily, he'd been given pretty easy to follow directions.
"Let's go!" He started off past the ships, walking at an easy enough pace that Cal would be able to catch up.
no subject
That was a relief. Cal supposed they could have resorted to his usual methods of poking around places until they found something useful but that'd take some considerable time. The supplies probably needed to be gathered sooner rather than later.
BD-1 beeped eagerly at Teddy's proposition, the padawan smiling over his shoulder at the droid before he started along after.
no subject
His super strength would help things move a little faster, but he still only had two hands to work with and at least two to three ships needing supplies.
After walking past several buildings, Teddy finally slowed to a stop in front of a smaller building. "I think this is it."
no subject
Behind him, BD-1's head twitched back and forth as the little droid took in the area, building up his own map bit by bit. He peeked over Cal's shoulder as they came to a halt by the place in question.
"That wasn't too bad a walk. Let's have a look then."
no subject
Walking over to one of the boxes of clothes, Teddy reached inside and started looking through it. "I don't know about you, but I'm definitely going to need some new clothes soon. This seems like a good place to start."
He then nodded towards the rations. "We'll take a couple boxes of those and leave the rest for those staying behind. We might be getting some fresh produce to take as well. A friend of mine told me he does some gardening. If there's anything ready to take we might get some variety at least."
no subject
"Honestly? I haven't even gotten around to thinking about that yet. I feel like my head's still trying to catch up with everything in general." He had a lot to consider. It was going to be like starting all over on Bracca and he wasn't really sure which was worse.
Walking over to the ration boxes, Cal took a look at the contents, nodding. "All right. Any idea just how many people have been brought here?" That was more out of curiosity than trying to figure out how much rations would be needed. Hopefully they wouldn't need too many if they only planned to be gone a few days, but who could be sure?
no subject
He shook his head. "I can't give you an exact number. But I know that the ships hold a crew of five each and we have six of those. I've also heard that we've lost a few people who were here."
no subject
He wasn't sure how many people he was expecting to be around, but the approximated number seemed a pretty fair one. The Agrii were busy doing something. "Wait, lost? As in..?"
no subject
He frowned down at the clothing he was sorting through. Unfortunately, there wasn't much else he could say on this topic either. "They disappear. Here one minute, gone the next. At least that's what I heard. They were probably returned home." At least he hoped so.
no subject
It wasn't very reassuring when you didn't know exactly what the fate of those who vanished were. He hoped that it was to go back home as well, not wanting to think too much on otherwise.
"Hm." Cal nodded, deciding it better not to dwell on that subject long. He glanced over as BD-1 resurfaced, the droid looking proud of himself as he tugged his leg up, something bright hooked over his foot. The padawan sighed as he picked it up, giving the droid a look. "Yeah, I think I'm going to have to say no to that one, BeeDee."
no subject
He tried not to think too hard about the people who have left. It's not like he could do anything for them here. He could only hope they're better off.
Glancing at the item the droid had found, he laughed again. "Aw, come on. It could be your color."
no subject
He folded it up and put it back into the box as BD-1 toed at the other things. "I think I'll look through these later. Want me to start taking some of these rations to the ship?" he asked as he looked over at Teddy again.
no subject
"Yeah, we better get started. Can you manage one of the boxes on your own?" Not that Teddy doubted he could, but the boxes were pretty heavy. If they needed to carry in tandem, better to know now.
no subject
He carefully set the box down on the floor, glancing between it and the remaining ones as he does some mental estimations. BD-1 trotted over beside him, the two sharing a look before Cal's eyes fall back upon the box.
"Well, better to know now than later." Looking over at Teddy, his lips quirked in a brief half-smile before he turned his attention to the box, extending a hand as he pooled his concentration and reached out through the Force. It was a little slippery at first, but at least something was there, and it would take some adjusting to. Was it just the environment, or something to do with that power dampener business Teddy had mentioned earlier?
The box wobbled a bit on the floor, and after a moment, it began to rise inch by inch.
no subject
Wide-eyed, the blond teen stared at the box as it slowly floated higher and higher.
"Please tell me that's you doing this and not more weirdness from this place."
He was pretty sure it was Cal, but one can never be too suspicious.
no subject
"Yeah, that's me," he reassured Teddy. "Kind of feels like when I first started out learning. Maybe I just need to practice more to get a better sense of how things are here."
That didn't make sense to him, given that by his understanding it shouldn't matter where one was as the Force was everywhere, but there were a lot of unexplainable circumstances in this one place, so why not add another? At least there was something, and that was something to be relieved about.
"I can only manage one at a time, but at least I can help carry something."
no subject
Especially since they're loading up to go face this storm that none of them know much about, or what to expect. They don't need anymore surprises.
Bending over, he lifted up one of the boxes and carefully balanced it on one shoulder, his free hand going up to support its weight.
"It's a big help. We should be able to finish in one or two more trips."
no subject
Cal nodded his agreement on that point. It never hurt to be prepared, and old habits aligned with common sense in that it was a bad idea to be caught flat-footed on an alien planet. At least that much was made clear; it wasn't safe here.
He could feel the strain in his concentration, but it wasn't so bad that he needed to relinquish his hold on the box. This would be a good exercise. Watching as Teddy picked up his own box, the padawan nodded. "Great. Let's get these back to the ship then."
