Something Happens and I'm Head Over Heels

The best thing about this new relationship is the mornings. Well, alright, all of it is pretty good but the mornings are definitely Steve's favorite. He'd never had the opportunity to regularly wake up next to someone and now he is spoiled with it. Sometimes he wakes up with a mop of hair in his mouth. Sometimes he's got Eddie hanging off the bed as he spent the night restlessly pushing him. And sometimes, like this morning, he wakes up in Eddie's arms, warm and secure. Steve nuzzles his face into Eddie's chest, enjoying a slow, leisurely waking process. Part of him just wants to go back to sleep entirely. But no, he can't.

They have plans.

"Babe," he hums, shifting to kiss against Eddie's neck. They'd planned today to be THE DAY. Their date: Eddie's first and Steve's millionth but definitely first with a guy. Honestly, he was probably more excited than Eddie was for the whole thing.

Steve reaches over for the die he'd created and the little notebook he'd scribbled his plans into. The die is plopped on the pillow next to Eddie's head and Steve goes back to the light pecks along that pale neck.

"Babe, it's time," he singsongs between kisses. "Rise and shine. It's time for me to be the best date you've ever had!

"It's fine," Eddie dismisses, and then a little bashfully- "It's not even the original one, I had to replicate all my accessories, but-" Same meaning at least. Which seems to be appreciated in a way Eddie didn't really expect. "And you're giving me this whole date, remember?"

Steve cradles Eddie's cheek and brings him in for a soft kiss.

"I am gonna replicate my letterman jacket. You're gonna wear it everywhere. Boyfriend rules." Is he joking? Who knows...

"Okay. Date, yes. Alright. So, it's gonna be three parts: the first thing is gonna be something I like, second is gonna be something you like, and the last one is gonna be something we both like. So this first roll you do is gonna pick what thing of mine we do first."

And yes, his smile is devious.

Never in a million years did Eddie think the idea of wearing someone's letterman jacket would have him feel quite so delightfully flustered, cheeks pink as he rolls his eyes and smiles, "Might have to make a few modifications."

Right. Date. And why does he look so devious?

"Is this a trap?" he teases, reaching for the die to roll it again. "Ooh," he winces, "Crit fail."

Steve punches the air as he sees the one roll up. He knew the replicator credit for the basketball wasn't a waste. Grinning, Steve wraps his arms around Eddie's slender waist and gives his cheek a delighted peck.

"This is great news for me. Becaaaause..." Steve releases Eddie and walks over to the side of the room where he keeps his meager belongings. Beside his bat is the replicated basketball. Steve picks it up, dribbles it twice, and then bounces it to Eddie.

"Game time."

There's a dramatic groan and Eddie swats at the ball before awkwardly recovering and giving it a few bounces to catch it out of the air. That could have gone better.

"And now we'll see why I skip PE," he accepts with a laugh.

"C'mon, babe. I bet you'll surprise yourself."

Steve walks over and hooks a finger through one of Eddie's belt loops to drag him out of the room and into the hall.

"And I promise to give you some pretty good incentives to sink a shot. Maybe some hands on training from a very enthusiastic and attractive coach?"

Well...when he puts it that way...

Least he doesn't have to wear the stupid shorts. Yeah, he can do this.

"Tsk, I knew all those porn mags were right about jocks," Eddie teases, letting himself be lead along.

Once outside, Steve releases Eddie's belt loop and instead slips his hand into the metalhead's. He twines their fingers together and focuses on enjoying the proximity instead of worrying about anyone looking. He's better about that, now, but it is still a process to just be open about dating a guy.

"Porn mags? Okay, the ones I read are clearly different than the ones you know. What is possibly going on with jocks. Other than the showering; I can see that one."

Honestly, Eddie might be more outwardly anxiously than Steve, eyes flitting about to make sure they are safe to hold hands before giving him a squeeze and bumping their shoulders.

"Oh, the jocks are a big draw in the gay mags," he says with a grin, "Locker rooms, showers, jockstraps it's all there."

Steve bursts out laughing. "Are you serious? Jockstraps? Those are like the least sexy underwear in the entire world. It's like wearing a speedo but with your entire ass hanging ou-"

He pauses, thinks a second, and then reconsiders.

"Alright. I guess I can kinda see it. But one trip to the locker room after a game will ruin them forever for you, trust me."

There he goes, he got there on his own. Eddie laughs and gives him a pointed look as Steve connects the dots.

"Mm, real life, not so sexy," he agrees.

Steve thuds his shoulder into Eddie's and squeezes his hand. "Were you spending some extra time on the jock pages? Is that what all that carrying on at lunch was really about? Pulling our jock pigtails because you really liked us?"

There may or may not be a pointed flush, Eddie biting his lip with a laugh.

"...my mind and my body might disagree on certain key points," he acknowledges.

Steve grins and smacks a kiss to Eddie's temple. "It's okay. I won't tell anyone you love us jocks. Our secret."

Outside, Steve walks not too far away where a basket of some type has the bottom punched out and is attached to a tall stick. A hoop, ostensibly.

"And now you get to be one! Should we do shirts and skins? Make it a little less painful if I use your favorite magazines as inspiration?"

It's embarrassing, so he better not hear about it from anyone else. And that includes Robin.

"You just want out of that shirt," Eddie teases, but he looks Steve over appreciatively, "That could work."

Steve will neither confirm nor deny this fact. But he will peel his shirt off and give Eddie a cheeky grin as he tosses it to him. "Okay. I promise I am gonna take it easy on you. This is still gonna be fun, I promise..."

And he hopefully proves it by dribbling the ball nice and slow toward Eddie and passing it with a low bounce.

He catches it, taken back to that night on the boat and flushing. Who would have ever thought they'd wind up here?

The shirt gets set aside, and Eddie manages to catch the ball and dribble without immediately embarrassing himself (again). "This does feel more inviting than PE," he offers with a smirk, and he tries to shoot but the ball goes wide.

"Hey! That was pretty good," he says in what is somehow a genuine tone. "You've got some real strength behind your throws. That's great. We just gotta point it."

He hands the ball back and goes to stand behind Eddie, molding himself to his body so he can get him in the right position. He giggles softly.

"This in the magazines too?"

Yeaaah, this is definitely not helping his focus. But fuck he's not complaining one bit, grinning and shrugging a shoulder.

"It's uh...usually more post game- locker room stuff. But maybe they were missing out on a good thing here..."

Steve runs his hands up and down Eddie's arms under the guise of getting them up and pointed right. He grabs his hips and turns them slightly. And yeah, maybe lingers for a second. This is a Nat1 activity but it can't be all bad.

And then he steps back.

"Okay. Same amount of energy and pretend you're trying to be Michael Jackson in Thriller." He makes his hands into little bent-wrist-claw-hands to demonstrate.

It feels surreal. Not just because this is *basketball* but because they're doing this, out in public and...it's fine? It doesn't stop the nervous thrill of it though, Eddie's teeth catching at his lower lip as he gives a low chuckle.

"Thriller, huh?" He tries it and- yeah, shit. That actually works a lot better. The ball goes where it's supposed to and Eddie blinks in surprise as it falls out through the basket. "Shit, who knew all I needed was a little one on one fondling?"

Steve laughs and swats at Eddie's hip. "I am coaching", he says primly. "And doing a heck of a job."

He goes running after the ball like a good golden retriever and dribbles it back with a smile.

"Now... There's more to basketball than shooting. Think you can take this from me? I'm pretty quick..."

"Yeah, well- your way of coaching is a hell of a lot more fun than PE," he agrees. Hell, Steve might even convince him to fool around with the ball outside of this date. Though if he wants a proper one on one he'll still need to go to Hargrove.

"Is that an opening for a joke, Harrington?" he teases, coming at him to try and swat the ball back into his possession.

Steve tries to fake a pout as he swings the ball around his waist to avoid Eddie. "Are you saying I'm fast, Munson? Because I have heard nothing but compliments for my stamina..."

He backs up a step, dribbling, trying to draw Eddie in once more.

"I might be offended, now..."

Ah, the fancy moves. Eddie laughs, trying again, and yeah, maybe this is a bit of fun. Maybe.

"There's another use for fast you fit better."

Damn it, how do people make this look so easy. "Give me the ball and I'll blow you," he tries, hoping Steve will either comply or be surprised enough that Eddie can steal the thing.
