July catch-all
WHO: Link and you!
WHERE: The diner, various locations
WHAT: Link watches a mountain, and catches up with a few people
WHEN: After Calibrations
WARNINGS: Violence for Wesker's thread
i. Food glorious food [open]
There's a few things Link does right after getting out of Calibrations. Run around in a circle bigger than the waiting room. Climb a building, and then jump off of it. Jump into the lake, just for the hell of it.
But there's two things of real note he does. The first is change from the cozy winter clothes Lark made him into the light, breezy Gerudo Outfit he arrived in. With this much warmer weather, it's a lot more suitable. But it's a much more feminine look than what Link's been wearing before now.
The second thing he does - after doing a little hunting and gathering a few ingredients - is head straight for the diner and start cooking.
He makes fish pie. Apple pie. Meat stew. Sausages and creamy mashed potatoes. Glazed meat and pepper steaks. All the meals he made in the Calibrations dreams - except this time, they're real.
He brings them out into the diner. Sets them all out on a table, for others to share if they would like. Then grabs a bit of everything for his own plate - and settles down to eat with a happy sigh.
ii. Hylian dressup simulator [closed to Lark and Zelda]
Link does, of course, like wearing his Gerudo Outfit. It's nice being pretty, nice to wear shiny things that glitter and jangle musically. It's nice, for when he feels like being a vai.
But Link doesn't always want to be a vai. And he doesn't want to wear the Gerudo Outfit all the time. So he was already planning to ask Lark to make him something else that he can wear in this kind of weather.
And then, Zelda arrived. With only one outfit, and one not suited to this heat at all. And suddenly talking to Lark wasn't just something he should get around to at some point, but something he needed to do right now.
In his usual fashion, Link does not bother to knock on Lark's door. He just arrives with Zelda in tow, opens the door, and walks right in.
iii. Gotta shield them all [closed to Ash]
With this heat, Link decides that later in the afternoon - when the sun's gone down enough to take at least a bit of an edge of the heat - is the best time to start teaching Ash to use a shield.
He brings Ash to dunes just south of Temba. There's space to move - and dunes that they can use later, for shield-surfing.
Once there, he holds out his left arm - once which has the bracer Tony made attached to it. On his back he has a second shield - one made by Dustin - but it's the bracer which Ash will be using.
"Watch," Link tells Ash, as he balls his left hand into a fist. Brings it back up against his chest, in an emphasized flick. A soft hum, and the bracer actives - creating a hard light shield, in the shape of slightly squat oval with a ridge down the centre.
This is what Link wants Ash to learn how to use.
iv. Rocks fall, everybody...does not die? [locked to Wesker]
Link had just been hanging around on the top of a building when he spot the man, just down below. The one from the Calibrations dream, right before they'd been released.
The dream had been more than enough to show Link that this man was dangerous. Not just because he'd immediately moved to kill Link in the dream. Because also because of the memories he'd seen - ones that showed that this man was a killer.
He's right below. Just next to the building Link's on. And there's a few loose pieces of stonework up here.
He grabs one. It's large - bigger than Link's own torso. But not so large that Link can't lift it up, and drop it down below.
Down where it should land right on the man's head.
v. Wildcard!

He then turns to Peter. "If you're his accomplice in this, I will take you both down."
no subject
"Yeah, I know. He threatened to kill me if I bothered him again and-" Peter pauses a moment because it might have just hit him that this could be construed as bothering him again. "-Well- YOLO, I guess." He toss his arms up.
"But I'm not gonna allow anyone to kill anyone else if I can help it."
no subject
Link hadn't seen anything from Wesker other than unrestrained violence. Violence which had first been initiated by him, unprovoked. Of course Wesker views Link as an enemy - that had been all too clear from the very start.
Which was what made this situation so dangerous. Link had been attempting to leave - being pragmatic enough to know when to bail on a fight that won't go well for him. But now Peter's here, and Wesker's threatening him too. Which meant leaving wasn't an option, not if Link couldn't find a way to get Peter out alive as well.
no subject
He doesn't take his attention away from Link, but his next words were clearly directed at Peter. "I won't kill him. But I will lock him up because he will try again to go after my life. Get in my way and you two share a cell." Though the way this is dragging out, Wesker isn't sure how long his patience will last.
no subject
"No. Wait. Just- hold on." Peter says, clearly a little exasperated before he does finally turn his attention to Link. If what Wesker says is true then he does have a point and Peter is a big enough person to acknowledge that.
"I gotta say, I agree with him-It was just a dream-I'm sure it wasn't pleasant but the bottom line is that it wasn't real. Even if he's done some hella shady shi-uh.." He glances back over at Wesker. "-Stuff back in his world, until he's done something here that goes beyond threatening people, there's no reason to start a fight. It's not gonna solve anything." He tries to reason.
no subject
Like Peter. How long until Wesker decides to make him a target as well? Impales him with that hand of his? Link can't let that happen.
He glances at Peter, frowning. How can he get the other teenager to leave? Or...maybe he needs to try something else.
Link steps back. Then another step, and another - moving backwards and away from Peter. And as he does so, he watches Wesker closely.
If Link is still the one he's focused on, then perhaps Link could lead him away from Peter.
no subject
"I killed people." He states the obvious and looks back over to Peter. He has no reason to be worried about Link. If he choses to break into a run again, Wesker is well capable to catch him. "I killed those that tried to kill me. Or believed they can use me because of what I am. Your world may celebrate mutants as heroes, but I am used to fully armed idiots like him firing shotguns and grenade launchers into my face until I crush their empty skulls."
no subject
He sucks in a breath and lets out a sigh at Link's reasoning. "Cool motive, still attempted murder." He says flatly. How did he get to be a referee in this? There isn't really anyone else around so now he gets to play mediator. "Just because you don't trust someone, doesn't give you the right to murder."
He turns and makes a face at Wesker for that statement, his head reeling but a little. "Don't try to justify your murder escapade to me. Do you know how many people I've killed? Zero." He holds up his hand to indicate the number to emphasize the point.
"You-Stay." He twists his wrists back and presses the down on his webshooters once he notices Link is slowly trying to flee.
Now Peter's left with a choice. He can either back out and let them handle it themselves or he can actively choose to help Wesker as Peter does understand that attempted murder is a pretty serious offense regardless of the reason.
"Do we even have a functioning prison system?"
no subject
No, this isn't what Link wants. He's trying to keep Peter safe, to draw the danger away. But Wesker wasn't following him, and Peter keeps staying in harms way.
"I'll stay, he's says abruptly, interrupting their discussion. But it's Wesker he's looking at, not Peter. "I'll stay. You let Peter go."
The webbing will soon wear off. But Link doesn't move.
If Wesker kills Link...so be it. As long as no one else gets hurt.
no subject
"And at your age I haven't killed anyone either. I was working towards my PhD." He adds, crossing his arms. "Which has no meaning here. Nothing either of us did or were back in our home worlds matters here." And that includes anyone's claim of being a hero. As far as Wesker's observations go, Peter is no hero. He's a kid forcing himself into business he has no place in. Attempting to rescue people that don't need rescuing. Link? A homicidal maniac covered in weapons and filled with delusions.
Those are the impressions Wesker has gathered from both of these young men. And at least in Link's case they aren't improving. Obviously Wesker himself is the asshole. The enemy. The one that is holding Peter hostage here somehow.
"We have a prison." Wesker decides to answer. "It's functional and clean. What we don't have is a justice system or laws. But considering how this place works it's impossible to implement either. Reasonably the facilities here should only be used as time-out." Given there is no staff and whoever gets to spend a few days there still needs food.
Wesker casts a look back at the Hylian, then towards Peter. Ultimately, he nods. "The moment you leave, he runs." Which is another thing Wesker shouldn't need to point out.
no subject
A pause.
"Well, my danger-sense thing is going crazy but not from him." At least, he doesn't think so anyway. He turns his attention back to Wesker.
"My uncle taught me that nothing short of the Zombie Apocalypse justifies murder-but we're not gonna get into that debate right now." Or ever, probably.
"Anyways, I don't know how you want to handle this. I get that it's serious but time out seems like it's not even worth the effort."
no subject
Wesker wants...imprisonment? Not death? Peter has some sort of ability to sense danger? (And what in Hylia's name are zombies? What makes them the only reasonable justification to kill?)
"You think he's...safe?" Link says, a deep frown burrowing between his eyebrows. This man, who has threatened Peter himself?
Link's entire experience with Wesker was filled with extreme violence. There had been nothing else to their only prior encounter. Only Wesker's attack, and Link's death. Had that experience given Link the wrong impression? Was Wesker not the threat he thought he was?
And yet, the possibility that he wasn't was hard to reconcile with everything Link knew of him.
He looks towards the man.
"Why?" he says. "Why did you kill me? You didn't...you just attacked. I had no way to escape. It was a dream, but you…you still did it."
He falls silent for a moment. He's not good at this; at trying to explain his thoughts, his feelings. At just talking. It's clear from the way Link speaks, he’s not used to speaking this much.
"I don't want you dead," he says. "I want to know you won't hurt anyone else."
no subject
He shakes his head. "But you are correct that debating anything of that sort is pointless." Different worlds, different cultures, different backgrounds. There is hardly any common ground. "What you shouldn't underestimate, however, is the effect of two days spent by yourself in a plain cell."
Turning his attention to Link, Wesker answers plainly. "Those were the rules. You started touching things you shouldn't touch before I could warn you. So I tried to pull you away and you remember how that ended." Every dreamscape had its own rules. Naturally Wesker's would reflect how protective he is about himself. Including a violent exit for those violating this privacy.
no subject
Which is a very round about way of saying that he doesn't think Wesker is safe at all. However, he'd much rather keep the peace then to go into some sort of battle royale.
And okay, Wesker has a point about vaccines and Peter really, really wants to continue the debate but he's already said now's not the time. So he manages to swallow his response down.
"In fairness to-" He pauses and then glances over at Link again. "...I don't think I ever got your name." He admits and then turns back to Wesker again. "Well anyways, in fairness to him, it really did look like you were trying to kill him just now."
no subject
That's his explanation?
"...That's dumb," Link says. Here Link had been thinking of Wesker as like a more dangerous, not-ridiculous version of the Yiga. But that impression has now disappeared entirely, because that explanation is patently ridiculous. Who attacks and kills someone over stupid rules about touching things?
(Not to mention, who even has rules about touching things in the first place? Link loves touching things. He should be able to touch all the things.)
Then to Peter, he gives his name almost-absentmindedly gives his name. "Link."
no subject
She also knows to leave him to his work. Which is valued even higher.
no subject
"Man, this is mess." Peter shakes his head and then turns back to Link. "Look. At this point, I don't care about either of your motives-it's just not smart to be attacking each other. I'm not saying we should all just be friends-I'm not nearly naïve enough for that-but I do think we should learn how to tolerate each other because it's pretty close quarters. If either of you kills the other or anyone else there would be some very serious consequences that I just don't think either of you want to face." He states firmly.
"And Link, for the love of all that is holy, please don't just go around touching on things in people's memory rooms next year. If you'd done that in mine I probably would have drop kicked you. Nothing personal, I just gotta lot of shit that I-" Peter pauses, glances over at Wesker a moment and watched him consideringly before back tracking. "-I've got a lotta stuff I'd really rather never relive."
no subject
You might as well put a bowl of candy and chocolate in front of a kid, and ask them not to eat it. Or in front of Link, for that matter.
Still, at least the rest of it he can give Peter some assurance. This encounter had at least proven that the Wesker was capable of not just attacking with senseless violence.
The problem was, even if Link could not tell that the man was capable of restraint, he absolutely wasn't certain that he would.
"I won't attack him," Link says. "Not unless he harms someone else."
no subject
"It's a mess because you had to get involved, Peter." He points out instead, scowling. This only is another prove to him that this entire hero thing works mainly by them creating the problems they solve. Ridiculous.
His scowl moves back to Link and Wesker starts moving towards him. "And you're not simply walking away from attacking someone out of the blue just because you two are bonding. I assume back in your world you are considered an adult."
no subject
"And yeah-hate to break it to you, but you did already attack and that's the problem we're dealing with now." He turns his attention to Link. He steps back when Wesker starts to move.
"So, I'm here to make sure this doesn't escalate anymore than it already has."
no subject
After all, Wesker seems to expect to be able to get away with his attack on Link. Where's his consequence?
He's half tempted to suggest that Peter lock Wesker up too. But...no. That would just put Peter into a potentially violent confrontation with Wesker. Which is what Link is very much trying to avoid.
So Link says nothing. And then, ignoring Wesker, he looks towards Peter. Wesker might be the one making demands here...but as far as Link's concerned, it's Peter's lead that he's following.
no subject
When he reaches Link, the older man raises a gloved hand to take a hold of the Hylians upper arm and guide him along, fully prepared for Link to either pull away or outright resist him.
no subject
"But wait." Peter speaks up. "Doesn't you being Victim, Officer, Judge, and Jury create a major conflict of interest? Besides, you attacked him too, if was fleeing and you attacked that's assault-not self defense so as far as I'm concerned your both guilty." Peter says firmly, still standing watch.
"And something about this doesn't sit right with me. I think we need another opinion."
no subject
“It’s fine,” Link says, as he - perhaps to Wesker’s surprise - does in fact allow himself to be pulled along.
Though after a moment he does add, “What’s a jury?” Why is that necessary for imprisonment?
no subject
But this is the hubris everyone wastes their time on apparently.
Wesker may stop, but the way his grip around Links arm tightens is a clear sign that he is nearing the end of his patience. He has to let go before he snaps the Hylians bone.
He doesn't turn back to Peter, though. "Do you even listen to yourself?" He states instead, forcing himself to remain calm. "According to your logic, if you get hit by a hit and run and chase down the fleeing car before it can escape, you are the guilty person. By your logic, if a pickpocket steals an eldery lady's purse and you pursue the fleeing thief to stop him, you are guilty for assaulting that man." Now he turns around just enough to look at Peter. "I worked with the police and still hold the rank of Captain. Had what happened here happened back on Earth, you would get arrested for interfering with and hindering police work."
Now before Peter can argue, he goes on. "That doesn't make me the police here, of course. It's not a task I am interested in. Yet I still have the experience, knowledge and training." And unlike ranks and titles, those things actually hold value.
