Freedom At Last - The Diner - Right after calibrations

Words cannot even begin to describe how happy Peter is to be free of memory cave hell. Not that he's not super thrilled about reliving all his worst memories, clumsily stumbling through other people's memories and his favorite part, being confined to the same place for a whole month. Needless to say, he more than happy to he out of there and back in the sun.

However, he can't help notice something feels... wrong. Maybe it just because he'd been in memory hell for so long his senses need to adapt again? That's probably it. Unsure where he should go first, he decides on the Diner to see if he can find Tommy or if there's any food available.

Turns out, his appetite isn't awesome thanks to the feeling that something is Not. Right. And it occasionally feels like his skin is crawling for no discernable reason. It has him feeling antsy and like he wants to jump out of his skin.

The sound of the diner door opening freaks him out just enough he he very suddenly, finds himself up on the ceiling, causing the chair he was sitting in to topple over. "Holy shit. Don't. Do that." He insists.

"That sounds like a real pain. Apart from you guys all disappearing and then finally coming back, I haven't really noticed anything out of place. Then again, I don't really have a good baseline for what counts as normal here."

Ugh man, this is one of those situations where he really wants to help but has no idea how. This is his least favorite thing. "I can take a quick jog around and tell you if I find anything?"

"That's fair." Peter shrugs nonchalantly. "Count yourself lucky you avoided the bullshit memory share slumber party because it was not fun and I don't think I'll be going back next year. Not that I had a choice." He's pretty sure he will be going back again next year and he's gonna spend a month wanting to rip his hair out.

"Nah, if there is any danger, I don't want you putting yourself at risk. If it's something to be worried about I'll know soon enough. But it is one of the reasons I was looking for Tommy.

"Yeah, nah, I'm fine with sitting that out. I just wish there was something I could have done to help."

Problems that he can bounce off of really hard until the break are more Sonic's specialty. There's nothing here that he can break- well, there's plenty he can break, but nothing that he can break in a way that would benefit anyone. He'll just try not to dwell too much on how useless he's been feeling, this is fine.

"Psh, danger would have to catch me, first." Shut up Sonic, you throw yourself head first into danger for fun all the time. He'll refrain this time, though. For now. "Think Tommy might know what's up?"

"I don't know." Peter shrugs. "but he is an Avenger and this feels like something he'd want to know about? I should probably tell Tony too, now that I'm thinking about it. Since Iron Man is like The Avenger." He shakes his head, he's probably thinking too hard about things.

"Sorry-that probably doesn't make any sense to you-the Avengers are a group of super heroes."

"Whoa, you guys have legit super heroes? That's about the coolest thing I've heard since I got here!"

Never mind the fact that he has some crazy powers of his own, but he's still a teenager. He's easy to impress and super heroes are badass, ok.

"Okay, veering wildly off topic, I know, sorry. I already know what Tommy can do, but what about this Tony guy? What'd you call him, Iron Man? Is he like super durable or something? Bullet proof? Can he turn his fists into giant metal balls?"

Obviously with a name like Iron goddamn Man, he must have the most badass super powers. Right? Right???

"Yeah." Peter shrugs like it's the most mundane thing on the planet. "I'm one of them, Spider-Man." He gestures to himself.

However, his excitement builds quickly because he gets to tell someone about Tony Stark.

"So, what you've gotta know is that I'm actually from a completely different universe than the Tony here-I mean we're cl-I know him and we get along but he's not the same Mr Stark from my universe. I don't think the Tony here has powers but I know the one from my universe doesn't. He's just a freakin' genius engineer that happens to be billionaire- which I guess you could say is his superpower. Anyways- he built the Iron Man Armor and his whole brand is that it's invincible 'cuz he's the invincible Iron Man and holy hell are his repulsor are beams cool when they blast stuff."

"Ahh, okay! That explains the whole sticking to the ceiling thing!"

He's pretty quick to accept that this is just a Peter Thing. He comes from a world where all kinds of people have weird abilities, this is totally normal.

"I guess you don't need powers if you have money and brains... But man, I have a buddy back home who would be all kinds of pumped to meet this guy! He's built all sorts of crazy things, but I don't think he's ever done armor before."

After a brief pause, he adds, "so, is this guy's armor here? Does he do demonstrations? I'm not much of a tech guy, but that does sound super cool."

"Oh yeah, I have spider powers." Peter says nonchalantly like that's just minor detail. Clearly a run of the mill fact.

"uh... I know he has it but I think it's more for superhero stuff. Our suits aren't really party favors, you know?" He says that like his is even here. All he has are his web shooters. Which he should really be working on trying to get more fluid. He has an idea but he really doesn't want it to go the same way the last time he tried to replicate web fluid went.

"Ah, bummer. Well, I guess that makes sense. Just whip it out for the important stuff."

See if he had a super cool armor suit, he would show off with that thing all the time. This is why nobody should ever give Sonic a super cool armor suit.

Anyway, back to the spider powers. Now that Sonic's over the cool armor thing, he can't help but think a little more about what 'spider powers' might imply. Some spiders can jump real good, and they can climb walls and stuff, which Peter demonstrated by latching onto the ceiling earlier.

"So... how far into spider are you leaning, here? I assume you don't have to eat bugs. Do you make webs? Like, spider webs. Where would that--"

He squints, looks Peter up and down, squints harder, decides he'd actually rather not know where webs come from, "actually... never mind."

"Idk man, you could ask to see it. He's kind of a show-off so he might do it." Peter shrugs and then makes a face at the idea of eating bugs. No, he's not that much Spider.

"No. I don't eat bugs, I don't lay eggs, I can't summon an army of spiders-but man, with the number of people that have arachnophobia I bet I could get them to instantly surrender. Anyways. I also don't feel it if you step on a spider-that's not how it works. I do have a precognitive ability that tells me when something's wrong but it's on the fritz right now."

He makes a mental note to find this Tony some time and annoy the piss out of him. Or something along those lines.

"Ah, you've been asked this before." Sonic shouldn't look as amused as he does, but eeeeh. Too bad, he's amused. Sorry. Pete.

"Right, right, you mentioned that. I wouldn't have associated 'danger sense' with spiders, but I guess they are pretty good at gettin' out of the way."

"Yeah, my friend Ned had like.. a ton of questions when he found out about my powers. Most of them were really off the wall but some of them we ended up testing." Peter explains.

"Like uh.. my spider-sense doesn't really work if the person attacking me is deemed as trusted so that's awesome. It also doesn't work as well if I'm already injured or tired or exhausted, my healing thing doesn't work as well I haven't eaten enough recently.. there's a whole list."

Spiders are pretty good at getting out of the way of things but he's not too sure that's where the spider-sense as he knows it comes from.

"So, the spider that bit me was uh.. radioactive or... something. And I know that Spiders feel the vibrations in their web that alerts them to things so I think that one was just severely altered so it had a strong sense than a normal spider would have-we'll never know it immediately got trampled after it bit me and shook it off my hand."

"Man, you've got all kinds of stuff going on! Suddenly getting slammed with super powers must have been real weird though, huh?"

Half the reason for the chatting is because this is absolutely fascinating and super powers are awesome, and the other half is because he's hoping he can distract Peter from feeling all weird and jumpy. He's not sure how much it's working, but Peter's not telling him to get lost, so Sonic will call that a win.

"Uh, yeah.. I guess? I mean I'm pretty sure it almost killed me but like life's been trying to take me out since before I was even born so like... as long as I don't die I guess that means I'm winning." That probably sounded way darker than he meant it to.

"I just meant-I was premature-had a lot breathing issues when I was little a loooot of trips to the ER." Which he knows was oh so expensive on his poor Aunt and Uncle. Briefly, he wonders if there's anything left of his parents inheritance and then immediately feels guilty for even thinking about that.

"Um.. anyways-yeah. After I got bit I immediately threw up everything inside me and passed out. Needless to say, I paid a trip to the hospital that day. And then like days later it happened again and then I almost got hit by a car and call me crazy but I just have a hard time thinking getting bit by a radioactive spider and almost hit by a car in the same week is coincidence so I think the two were related? Anyways, it was a rough first few days. If you're in the market and looking to get super powers? I do not recommend radioactive spiders."

...So, Sonic hadn't been expecting that much of an info dump, but it's fine! He manages to sit still and listen to the whole thing like a champ.

"Whoof. Well, they say what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, right? I mean, if you think about it, you're kind of living proof of that." Well, okay, maybe just the radioactive spider bite is what made Peter stronger and not literally any of the other things, but shut up Sonic's trying his best to follow all that up.

"Y'know, I think I'm good with the abilities I already have. No radioactive spiders for me, thanks."
