[The video opens on Poe's face, edges of his jacket still dusted with salt and red earth.]

This is Commander Poe Dameron of the Republic fleet. I'm looking to speak to whoever's in charge here. I've got some pretty pressing issues to deal with back home, and uh...I really need to be getting back. Or at the very least if someone knows of a long range transmitter, or a ship, actually? A ship would be good.

...Or caf. Do you guys have caf here? Or maybe something stronger? That whole...glowy ball thing..., the data point- that happens to everyone, right? [He taps at his temple with a frown. He didn't particularly enjoy that experience.]

[There's a sympathetic look, and Poe nods. He very much understands how she must be feeling.]

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sure he will be.

[Of course, he misunderstands her next words, flashing a cocky sort of smirk.]

I can fly anything, kid. You show me to a ship and I can get it off the ground.

[ Katara smiles thankfully at his reassurances, though her expression shifts to one of amusement more than anything when speaks of his flying prowess. ]

Sure. [ She sounds entirely unconvinced. ] There are other pilots here, too. You need to get the skill from the right datapoint or it won't work for you.

[Ah. Poe frowns very pointedly at that. First because he is still sure there is nothing he can't figure out how to fly, and secondly, he really didn't like how the last one reminded him of Ren forcing his way into his mind.]

Well, we'll see about that.

[ Katara gets it--it's frustrating not to be able to do something you should by rights know how to do without assistance from a glowing orb that puts new knowledge in your brain. She nods and chuckles softly. ]

Look, I come from a world where the most technologically advanced nation on the planet only just figured out how to use balloons as a means of travel. [ To make war, but that's less relevant here. ] Maybe you're right and you'll be able to figure it out, no problem. It's worth a shot, right?

[Poe whistles sympathetically. There's a few places he can think of who are considerably behind on the technology front, but to live in a world without flight? He couldn't do it.]

...I like your attitude, Katara. And you're right. It's always worth a shot.

[ Oh, there's flight. Just... if you enjoy going sixty miles an hour. ]

So you fly space ships a lot? What's that like? We were all stuck for weeks inside the ships here and I have to say, I'd take a sky bison any day. I could hardly stand the stale air.

[There's a fond look on his face, and it's clear how much he enjoys it.]

Starfighters, mostly- [He pauses then, realizing that probably means very little to her.] One man craft. Sometimes two, a pilot and a gunner. Very different from a cruiser. Bit more cramped. There's nothing like it though.

[ At least it's something he seems passionate about. He feels the same way about flying that she feels about her bending, it seems. That much she understands. ]

All the ships here are big. The one I was on was called the First Breath, but there are more than that.

Good name.

[Poe's X-Wing hadn't had nearly so poetic a name.]

Big's probably good. Less need for a fighter in this place. Hopefully.

Well, nothing terrible has happened [ Yet. ] so hopefully we won't need any fighters like the kind you're talking about. A lot of the people here are really strong, too. They have powers or super strength, and I have my bending.

[Powers? Poe's brow creases apprehensively, the first figure the comes to mind being that of Kylo Ren.]

Yeah! I'm a waterbender, so I can control water. Like this.

[ From the waterskin at her hip, Katara draws up a stream of water and makes it flow between her hands. ]

See?

[ She turns it into floating ice crystals, then melts them again, returning the water to her pouch. ]

That's waterbending.

[Poe watches in what looks to be genuine awe, lips curling slowly, and he gives an impressed laugh.]

...That's amazing.

I can heal with my bending, too, so if you ever get hurt you can let me know, okay?

...I'll keep that in mind.

[He looks like he wants to ask how that works, but after what he's just seen he doesn't really think it's worth questioning.]

How hurt are we talking? Like cuts and scrapes, or you bringing people back from the brink?

[ Katara touches her chin contemplatively for a moment before answering that one. ]

Well... I did technically bring my friend back from the dead after he was struck through the heart with lightning, but I think it would be beyond my ability normally to do anything like that. I was using water from a sacred oasis where the spirits of the moon and the ocean live--it has special properties.

I did heal another friend from a lightning wound... inflicted by the same person, actually. He should be fine, but I was brought here right when I'd just finished stabilizing him.

[ She shrugs and smiles sheepishly. ]

So, I can fix you even if you're pretty hurt pretty badly, but please be careful.

Please, careful's like...my middle name.

[And no one here has to know how very very untrue that statement is just yet. Or just how regularly he founds himself injured or blown up, or...at the wrong end of a blaster.]

Heh. Sure it is, Mister Starfighter.

[ Because everyone she's ever met with that kind of attitude has been the picture of of level-headedness. ]

[Poe smirks, shrugging a shoulder. He likes her.]

That's not bad. I like that.
