Network post: Video

[The scene is of water and Noctis is visible, working on perfecting his craft of fishing here in this strange new land. He casts the line with his right hand and it goes out pretty smoothly. And as he talks to the camera, the bobber is bobbing along pretty well at first and only the side of him is seen since he's not looking directly at it.]

I'm studying agriculture, but it seems I wasn't able to get a lot of information on the different fish here. I know they got pretty big back where I'm from so I was kinda hoping someone could tell me how big they get here if anyone knows.

[And then the bobber goes down quick and Noct pulls back with the rod. And the next thing that's heard is splash and the camera falls off its perch to reveal a pale hand coming up out of the water and onto the deck after a moment or two. Next heard is spluttering accompanied with slight swearing but there's no one on camera.]

What the hell was that?

[There was another nod and he had to laugh self consciously.]

Well the fish caught me which is fair to say.

[Wordlessly he looked at the pole.]

It takes a little coordination. And while I waited for you I restrung it with the spider silk I was given by someone here so that's all set. But if you want to just jump right in we can or you can just watch for a little bit.

[Omega giggles a little.]

I guess it did.

[Looking over at the fishing pole, she studies it, nodding to herself. She thinks she can get the gist of what's supposed to happen, which makes it all the more reminiscent of the situation Wrecker had been in with the dianoga. She gestures.]

I'll watch first.

Alright, suit yourself.

[That was said with a smile, so he turned and cast his line out, letting the pole go a little sideways. Turning back to Omega, Noctis nodded.]

It's basically a sit and wait thing until you feel a tug on your line.

[The girl settles down beside him, looking on as Noctis casts out.]

What's on the end of it?

Oh..

[Right, he didn't show her.]

A lure. Some people that fish use live bait like worms and stuff, but I prefer lures.

A lure? So...it's not something alive.

[Once again her thoughts went to Wrecker, dangling at the end of a cable over the water as long tentacles came up and grabbed at him.]

N..no. It's a piece of metal that moves similar to things they normally eat. And since they don't know right off what it is, they assume it's food and try to eat it.

[Noctis sighed and looked out at the water.]

I used to have a bunch of them back home.

Oh, I see. Did you make it yourself?

[She peers out at the waters, trying to see if there's anything moving beneath the waves.]

[He shook his head with a little smile on his face.]

No, I actually found it sticking out of the sand. I was really surprised but I cleaned it up a little and it worked.

[That other thing had taken his other one but he wasn't going into that right now.]

[The girl smiles at that. Maybe the Agrii fished too? She rests her chin in hand as she settles back again, watching the line.]

So now it's just waiting to see if anything finds it.

That's pretty much it at this point.

[Noctis reeled the line in and recast the line just in case there were fish in a different spot.]

Oh.

[She watches as Noctis throws the line out again, staring out at the water as though she's able to will something to bite it.]

I know it's not..really exciting or anything. So do you want to see if you can do it?

[Maybe it'd help.]

[It was a lot less so when you were waiting for the chance of something to nibble your lure, she realizes. Omega does straighten up a bit when Noctis again offers her the chance to try.]

What do I need to do? Aside from just hold it?

Just hold it. And you'll know when something tugs on it. So if you need help I'll be right here.

[Omega nods, soaking up these points as though she were being taught how to wield a weapon. She holds her hands out for the pole.]

All right.

[Noct handed it over and had smiled with a nod.]

Relax, you'll be fine.

[She's definitely eager to give it a go. Adjusting her hands on the fishing pole, looking out towards the water and the line again. And now,
waiting.]

[He stood back and let her wait but after a minute or two he piped up.]

You can reel the line along, maybe that'll get the fish's attention. But it's up to you.

Reel? Oh-

[Looking at the reeling mechanism, she tries it one way, then the other before nodding to herself as it draws the line in a little.]

[Noctis nodded.]

If you move it through the water, that'll attract their attention.

[Because even fish could be lazy.]

Hmm...

[She considers this advice before lowering the pole's tip a little as she reels again. Make it look like something they eat. That makes sense enough, and if she squints she thinks she can see the glint in the water as the lure moves.]

And when I reel it too close? How do you cast it out again?

Here, it's pretty simple.

[Noctis moved to the side, and showed her how it worked by pointing out the different things. It was still so weird to him to be teaching someone how to fish but maybe she'd like it enough at some point to come out here too.]

[Omega nods as she pays careful attention to everything Noctis explains. She proves to be a quick study as she reels in the rest of the line, considering what she's just been told before casting it out again with a flick of her wrist. It doesn't go very far, but at least she's got the right idea.]

[He nodded at Omega's actions.]

The real test will be when you hook something. But in the meantime it's really about patience and making sure you try to get the fish to notice your lure in the water.
