A New Friend and Other Stories of a Paladin

WHO: Shiro and You
WHERE: Around Temba
WHAT: Shiro spending some time around Temba, including Glownie
WHEN: The month of June
WARNINGS: None yet

Greenhouse
In order to help out, Shiro had started going to the greenhouse to assist where he could. He wasn't the most knowledgeable with plants, data point or not, but he could handle jobs like watering and weeding. All tasks that needed to get done in order to make sure that the plants they did have thrived so they would grow.

Also harvesting mint as he had been spending time with the Glownies, but that was not today.

Today he had set himself to weeding, humming a little bit under his breath as he did.

Starduck
The kitchen seemed to a safe enough place on the ship to just hang out. Shiro had headed in there, settling himself at a table, sipping at his cup of tea. He was lost in thought, staring at the wall for a moment as though it might do something interesting at any moment.

Of course... it wasn't.

Glownies!
Shiro had been spending time with the Glownies ever since Tommy had introduced him to them. They were rather cute and something about them was very calming to him. Spending time with them was a productive way to look after an animal and take care of them and relax at the same time. Sometimes, he'd talk to them about things and they'd listen but not necessarily really understand and couldn't repeat. Things that were just good to get off his chest... like the fact that he still was trying to process what had happened to Adam.

But it meant that no one else heard it... maybe.

One of the days though, when he was returning back, he found he had a tagalong. One of the Glownies had snuck out and decided to follow him. It was rather happily trotting along after him, tail flipping.

"What are you doing?" Shiro asked it with a smile. "Are you trying to come home with me?"

[ooc: if your character would be around the Glownie pasture, feel free to have them overhear Shiro talking to the Glownies]

"It's ... effed up, honestly. First I had this really long dream that I was selling cheap comics and toys in the city, and then I woke up here. No ship, no crew, just my Zune -" he pats the MP3 player clipped to the waistband of his pants - "and this glowy ball in front of me. Touched that, got a bunch of weird images beamed straight into my brainpan like something out of a B-movie, and here I am."

He paused, mulling it all over. "But at least I'm getting a sandwich."
puddledancer: (what in the hey?)

"That's pretty much what it sounds like, yeah. ... Someone made a whole world?" That gave him pause, and he squinted at Shiro in concern, even as he was watching him assemble his sandwich.

"He's not a Celestial, is he?"

"Thanks, man." He raised half the sandwich in a toast, taking a bite and having absolutely no qualms about talking with his mouth full. At the very least, he shunted most of the food over into his cheek so Shiro didn't get a complete trip to the SeeFood aquarium.

"If he's from space, I guess that could make sense. But if he's a Celestial ... we might be super distant cousins or some shit. My Dad was one. It's kind of a long story. What's his name? I'll have to look him up."
puddledancer: (didn't do it)

"Billy, huh. Yeah, I'll look him up. And no, it's -" Blessedly, he swallows his mouthful, but is wondering if there's anything to wash it down with, glancing around the galley. "- it's a little different than that. He was kind of his own planet? Weird."

"It's pretty dang rare," Quill shrugged, picking up the drink. "Hey, thanks. Cheers. ... He was the only one I ever heard of. Other than the Celestials in myths, the ones that made these Infinity Stone things."
puddledancer: (this is the truest story ever)

"They're these ... glowy rocks made by the Celestials when they created the universe, to help them control stuff. I don't know an awful lot about 'em, but the only one I ever saw was purple, about yea big."

He pinched his fingers together, demonstrating, then took another bite of his sandwich.

"Really dangerous, it could wipe out whole planets if you wanted it to. My crew and I, we had to get it back from this genocidal maniac named Ronan before he wasted the planet Xandar as revenge for some really old culture grudge thing."

"Yeah, it was pretty rough, honestly. We almost died. It took all four of us holding hands to even handle picking it up long enough to put it in the case that kept it safe."

He had mixed feelings about that moment - it had been terrifying, but he'd heard his mother's voice, been connected to everyone he'd come to care about, saved the universe.

"It's under some serious lock and key now. There are apparently other ones out there, but... I've got no idea where and I bet that's a good thing."

"Yeah, exactly. We've been keeping an ear out for leads on any of the other ones: at least, Gamora was. Since her dad was the one who wanted them all. But right before I showed up here, we hadn't heard anything else yet."

He paused for another bite of sandwich. "This is pretty great, by the way, thanks. ... Does anyone know if there's a way to tell them I'm gone? My crew?"

"Well, that sucks," he frowned, washing down the last mouthful with a drink and stretching out a little in his chair, starting to get comfortable. "So people can just sort of pop in and out without anyone knowing??"
