Jedi Temple 2.0

Padme has done her best to create a nice space for herself and the twins. Obi-Wan had found a good solid building for them to live and she'd spent her free time cleaning it up and making it a home.

Finally, she feels ready for guests. So she's let everyone she's made friends with this far know where she's living and invited them to visit. Advance warning or no, she's prepared to entertain.

Taking a walk

She can't stay inside all day every day. So, once a day when the children are napping, she leaves them under the watchful eye of the nanny bot (or a friend) and takes a walk. Later in the month she might even be spotted jogging (she has to get back in shape, after all).

If she sees someone, she slows down and greets them with a friendly smile. "Hello!"

All work and no play.

Never one to sit idle for very long, Padme takes time a few days a week to explore areas of the city. She's particularly interested in areas that need work. She can be found nearly anywhere, often with the twins in their pram, taking notes. She's going to learn about this new planet and how to help them, no matter what. If she didn't have the twins, she'd be more likely to try to investigate some of the closed off areas... But that will have to come later.

“The ships seem to work perfectly fine,” Tommy shrugged as he finally rose to his feet.

“We are lucky for now. Not too much overcrowding on the ships.”

She gives him a sheepish smile, "I'm afraid my privilege may be showing. I've been fortunate enough to travel in ships with better accommodations."

That gets a nod, "I was concerned about that, too. If many more people arrive it may pose a problem."

Fortunate is right. Bet they even had space to not feel like the walls were closing around them.

"Maybe the Agrii will find a way to give us a new ship."

That gets a thoughtful frown. "If they could do that, why would they need us to be here to help them at all?" It's a valid question. The Agrii need their help, they shouldn't be wasting all of their energy on those they'd brought there.

"They can do that because they're in space and we're not. They can do that because they have the resources up there and can't come down here, so they do their best to help us down here. They can do it because things are fucked up and make no sense."

The meeting sure had revealed that more shit was going on than Tommy had realized. ANd yet there was still no one going to help the Agrii's main problem: stopping the storms.

She nods, understanding. "Thank you. I'm still learning everything I can about this place so I can determine how best I can help them. I may not be as skilled as some of the others with technology or science, but I've helped organize relief struggling planets before. Perhaps one of the problems is that we don't all understand what needs to be done."

"We understand," he snaps quickly, and yeah, he's sneering at her. "Jesus fuck why do you all have to assume we're a bunch of rubes?"

She shows no reaction to his anger. She's faced down scarier people than him. "I was speaking for those of us who haven't been here as long as you have. Why did you assume I was speaking about you?"

Thing was, she might not have met someone as scary as him. She just didn't know it. Because he hadn't bothered to hurt someone yet.

"Because that's all you people did. Talk like we didn't know anything. Like we sat here and twiddled out fucking thumbs. You're all so condescending. Especially to Kyle when he raised my point."

"I won't speak for anyone else. I openly acknowledge that I don't know everything, and I believe I said just that. I also thanked Kyle for bringing up that point as it was an important one to discuss." She tilts her head, regarding him. "I'm asking questions and talking to people because I want to understand. But that won't happen if said questions are met with hostility and resistance. If you don't want to help me familiarize myself with what's going on, that's fine. I'll leave you in peace and find someone who will."

"For someone who says they know how to lead, you didn't step in and tell your people that maybe they should not say 'we'll we'd never gang up on anyone' while literally doing that. Seems like your skills and stuff didn't suit you then," Tommy pointed out.

He crosses his arms over his chest and looks at her.

"There aren't many of us who have been here from the start. Just a handle left. And what we need a bit of respect for what we have accomplished. You want to do something? Organize people to go out there."

He gestures past them, meaning outside of the city.

"Something is fucking with this place, and someone has to go figure out what. Has to look for it. I can't because between feeding us and growing food I literally can't get enough food in me to burn on exploring. So if you want to help people understand stuff, help them understand that. Until we find what is fucking with the Agrii, none of us gets to go home."

She listens patiently, letting all of his words sink in before she formulates her response. He's angry, and has valid reasons to be so. She will not meet his anger with more anger. Instead, she smiles gently.

"I lead no one here. While I was queen of my planet for a time, I was more recently a senator. I believe in democracy and that means that everyone should have a say, whether one likes it or not. I did step in once it seemed that the conversations were devolving into something nonproductive and request that we all get back to the topic at hand. However, I understand how that may have looked."

She follows his gesture, nodding. "I understand. I'd go look, myself, but I've got my children to think of at the moment. But I will do what I can to organize people." Turning back, she tries to meet his eyes, "I have great respect for what those of you who have been here have accomplished. You've built a solid foundation that can now be built upon, and you deserve thanks and credit for that. Maybe with some fresh eyes we can find out what's causing the problems here so everyone can return home, including the Agrii."

Oh she can try to meet his eyes, but he's already turning away.

"Do what you will. I'm here to keep us all fed and moving. Nothing else matters to me but protecting my family and friends."

He isn't here to solve the problem. He's not smart enough. He's here to help those who will.
