A New Home

The first days after they arrived back from Coruscant, Obi-Wan was busy. The Jedi essentially hitting the ground running now that he’s been energized by his vacation back home. The first priority was making sure Padme and the twins were comfortable. Then came the task of finding an appropriate place in Temba for a temple.

Before the impromptu trip to Coruscant someone had suggested the amphitheater. However upon looking it over the Jedi decided it didn’t suit the purposes that were needed. So he kept looking. Though he didn’t have to look far as he came across a cluster of buildings that seemed to be a museum complex. After looking over the overgrown and run down grounds he decided that it would be perfect. It would just need some cleaning up and repurposing.

Thus a call is put out on the network. Asking for help in setting up this new home for the Jedi if anyone is willing. Those with the engineering data points would be especially appreciated, as would the advice of those with agriculture for setting up a garden. But really any free hands would do with the promise of the favor being returned down the road.

The time didn’t matter as Obi-Wan will be working on it all month. Cleaning out the buildings and their exhibits. Pieces of artifacts carefully picked up and put away for later sorting and hopefully reassembly. One of the smaller buildings being converted into a holding place for animals and/or potential vehicles. The other intended for living spaces. The largest building was a grand hall and Obi-Wan intended this to be the main structure for learning, sparring, meeting, and whatever else they could use it for. Last but not least the smallest, yet very tall building with a large platform inside was to be made into a place of meditation.

There is a lot to be done and more hands make light work!

That was the kind of reaction he had been hoping for and the Jedi beams brightly. Glad to see that she is pleased with the flowers. “I found a grower on Coruscant. Fortunately he happened to have some.”

It hadn’t been an easy task. He had searched quite a bit after the twins had been born. Obi-Wan had missed the flowers in the Room of a Thousand Fountains, but Padme’s arrival motivated him even more to try and find some. His search had eventually paid off.

Padme blinks tears from her eyes. This small gesture makes her happier than she can even express. The hormones don't help, of course.

"I'm truly touched." She's at a loss for what else to say. If he wasn't holding the plants she'd hug him.

Obi-Wan’s expression softens as he sees the tears in her eyes. “It wasn’t right for you not to have a reminder of your own home,” he said with a gentle smile. He had been so blessed to return to Coruscant and be at the temple. It had meant so much to him. Thus he can understand Padme’s tears.

“Plus the Room of a Thousand Fountains didn’t seem quite right without these. It’s only fitting that they should be here.” These flowers meant something to him too. It was an sentimentality they could share in.

It's such a thoughtful gift. More thoughtful than any she recalls receiving in fact. She wipes the tears from her eyes and smiles.

"Now we can both enjoy them."

She gestures, "Please, let's find somewhere for you to put them down. There's no need for you to stand there holding them."

Obi-Wan doesn't really see it as that big of a deal. Though Jedi didn't often give gifts to each other either. He just thought it was something she would like, and is pleased to see that he was right.

The Jedi chuckles as he realizes that it probably is a bit silly for him to stand there with the pots. So he takes a moment to look around and decides on a place to set them down. "I'll let you decide where they should go. Your taste in decor is going to be better than mine."

She nods, accepting that task. She'll find the perfect place for them. In the meantime, she steps up and reaches for Obi-Wan. He's getting a hug whether he wants it or not.

"Thank you. That little piece of home is exactly what I needed."

As soon as he puts the pots down he finds Padme putting her arms around him. The Jedi blinking in surprise while a slight blush comes to his cheeks. A bit caught off guard by the gesture.

After the first moment of surprise though he puts his arms around her as well and gently returns the hug. “Of course, Padme.” It warmed his heart to see her so happy.

It makes her surprisingly happy to hear him say her name instead of a title.

She releases him, stepping back. "Tell me, how has the work been coming? You must be happy to see things coming together."

“I am,” he admits. The happiest he’s been the past several months actually.

“It is a bit surreal as I’ve never actually seen a temple built before, so this is all very new to me in that regard. But I feel that I will have a home again. A place to belong. And I hope you and the padawans will all feel the same way.”

She smiles fondly at him. His joy has been apparent. It's been wonderful to see him like this.

"I can't speak for everyone, but I certainly feel that way. I'm especially glad that this can be done for those who've been without a home for so long."

“Yes, I feel the same.”

While the devastation was still very fresh for him, there were those that have had to live without a home for far longer. They deserved to have a place that felt like home too.

“And I want to make it so everyone feels welcome here. Not just Jedi. Not just those from our galaxy. I want this temple to be a refuge of peace.”

She's not surprised that he feels the same as she. He has a good heart, after all.

"I think that's a wonderful idea. We should be bringing people together, not distancing ourselves from the others."
