Hundred dollar bills under our sleeve

WHO: Kaz Brekker and you (yes you)
WHERE: Lots of places around Temba
WHAT: Kaz is learning about literally everything (catch-all for April)
WHEN: April
WARNINGS: Blanket warning that Kaz is a dick

Inn (Public Kitchen)

Kaz was already curious about this place, though he hadn't been here before. For lunch he did stop in to see who ran it, and more importantly, what was served as meals. Less important but still interesting, was how it was laid out and how it worked.

Hangar

With the ships already being docked here, it wasn't long before Kaz found his way out of the Bloodsport and into the hangar bay. It was very interesting to see many more machines but he had no idea what they were used for or what they did on their own. More interesting to see the other ships, and as expected, none would even unlock the door for him. Still interested, Kaz made a slow perusal around the hull of each ship.

Library

As expected for a library it was quiet here. Kaz simply adjusted his grip on his cane and with sound-absorbing felt on the tip, his steps were now soundless. Being here reminded him of the bookshop on Kaufmannstraße. It had the same sense of quiet with random dust motes flickering in and out of sunbeams. The only real difference was the lack of books on the shelves. While that was something of a disappointment, it wasn't a big surprise to Kaz. Kaz wasn't often surprised by the worst since that was usually what he expected. It was only the nicer parts of life that would surprise him at unexpected times.

The Deep End (Cayde's tavern)

Kaz had been exploring the tower when he came across the bar by accident. There appeared to be no bartender, though. That seemed to be true of many places in Temba; they were mostly what you would expect with one or two major differences to set expectations on their ear.

The greenish-blue light shining in drew Kaz's attention enough that he did look out the windows. He could see some sort of odd combination between a frog and a crab swim by. So this was part of the flooded area? Interesting.

Factory

As this area was largely derelict there was little of interest here for Kaz. He passed rusted pipes without seeming to notice much of his surroundings. He had come here with a singular purpose, though. Or perhaps it would be better to say he was looking for a singular person.

Gateway

Because Kaz used a cane to walk, it was surprising that he would even be able to navigate the overgrowth to begin with. But he picked up the cane and though he had a lopsided gait, he was agile enough that he could use the cane's handle as a hook and use the assisted jump to go over some clumped branches, or just side-step other obstacles. It was a maze to get through and more than once Kaz debated going back. But he persevered and eventually came to be standing before where the path sloped to continue underground.

Countess is quite willing to uphold this little staring contest. She doesn't know this stranger, but doesn't feel particularly drawn by the way he carries himself and stares back at her.

"Mr. Brekker." The Archivist's voice cuts through what remains of the previous silence and Jon can be seen standing at the end of the shelf the mothcat is perched on. His voice isn't an accusatory one, but one of mild irritation upon seeing this particular young man here of all places. "Can I help you?"
beholding_archivist: (I disagree)

"What the Agrii had gathered here has been lost to the energy storms." Jon explains simply. "The large data point at the fountain is what recorded history of this place remains."

And he is certain none of the information stored on that data point is any news to his visitor.

There are plenty of theories, but Jon has always been one to prefer facts and proofs to hypotheticals.

He raises a brow at the question, then gestures around them with a small shrug. "To the best of my abilities, I have. I have my limits, which is why my focus is on this building and the ones connected to it." It's slow progress, but it's progress.

"The Agrii have no written language. At all." Jon replies matter-of-factly. "All their knowledge was stored on smaller versions of the data points you can still find in the city. Restoring the remains hasn't been successful, however." But there have been other uses for the material itself according to Jon's knowledge.
beholding_archivist: Do not take. Thanks. (I suppose this was a bad idea)

Jon frowns in response.

"It's only the expertise data points that overwrite one another. You may have noticed that you don't lose the knowledge gained from the data point near the fountain." He points out and looks up to where the mothcat is still closely observing them.
beholding_archivist: (Could you just not?)

"See what, precisely?" Jon asks, his voice a little sharper and words tingling with a hint of irritation-induced compulsion. "The shards and circuity of those broken data points? They are broken, Mr. Brekker. Any attempts to restore them proved futile as I mentioned before. The data is lost."

And this is a statement in return.

It takes a moment for Jon to notice what has happened himself and he grimaces a little to himself at first, then in response to the answer he receives.

A scowl settling on his face, Jon inhales sharply, then exhales. "I asked you a question. And you were kind enough to answer. Thank you, Mr. Brekker. I suggest you take your leave now."

Maybe he should have apologized, Jon is aware of that. But saying he's sorry would have been a lie in this case as this young man has not made himself a very pleasant individual to be around in Jon's opinion.

“I asked.” Jon repeats grimly, crossing his arms. “And if you don’t want me to ask you to reveal your darkest secrets to me, you better leave my library.”

Yes, that’s a threat.

So someone sis notice him while he was down in the lower levels of the city-planet. Jon frowns mildly at the revelation, but doesn't necessarily appear shocked.

"So you saw me on Coruscant." He sums up, deliberately cutting out the acting very strange part as if it doesn't matter. Even though mentally Jon will keep that phrasing in mind. Has he really been acting that strangely?

"I don't tend to make a secret of what I am or what I can do and why. But I find it bothersome that you're obviously trying to use your observation as leverage against me. I will neither kill nor otherwise harm you, but I'm seriously questioning your motive."
beholding_archivist: (May I ask...?)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2021-05-01 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Jon scoffs. "Really? You refuse to leave, act fucking coy after just having found out I might very well just make you tell me this complicated motive and at the same time expect I reward you with what? An interview?"

No, he is very much not inclined to provide an answer. Though his words 'tell me' may leave a tickling sensation at the back of Kaz's mind, as will simple, not actually enforced order. "Leave."
beholding_archivist: (I disagree)

Just leaving this final comment to say that this icon is incredible in its grumpiness <3

While Jon doesn't make any further comment, he makes a mental note on what he has just been told, narrowing his eyes with some suspicion while watching the younger man make his way out.

Gathering information on people and their powers, but for what reason...
