Hundred dollar bills under our sleeve
WHO: Kaz Brekker and you (yes you)
WHERE: Lots of places around Temba
WHAT: Kaz is learning about literally everything (catch-all for April)
WHEN: April
WARNINGS: Blanket warning that Kaz is a dick
Inn (Public Kitchen)
Kaz was already curious about this place, though he hadn't been here before. For lunch he did stop in to see who ran it, and more importantly, what was served as meals. Less important but still interesting, was how it was laid out and how it worked.
Hangar
With the ships already being docked here, it wasn't long before Kaz found his way out of the Bloodsport and into the hangar bay. It was very interesting to see many more machines but he had no idea what they were used for or what they did on their own. More interesting to see the other ships, and as expected, none would even unlock the door for him. Still interested, Kaz made a slow perusal around the hull of each ship.
Library
As expected for a library it was quiet here. Kaz simply adjusted his grip on his cane and with sound-absorbing felt on the tip, his steps were now soundless. Being here reminded him of the bookshop on Kaufmannstraße. It had the same sense of quiet with random dust motes flickering in and out of sunbeams. The only real difference was the lack of books on the shelves. While that was something of a disappointment, it wasn't a big surprise to Kaz. Kaz wasn't often surprised by the worst since that was usually what he expected. It was only the nicer parts of life that would surprise him at unexpected times.
The Deep End (Cayde's tavern)
Kaz had been exploring the tower when he came across the bar by accident. There appeared to be no bartender, though. That seemed to be true of many places in Temba; they were mostly what you would expect with one or two major differences to set expectations on their ear.
The greenish-blue light shining in drew Kaz's attention enough that he did look out the windows. He could see some sort of odd combination between a frog and a crab swim by. So this was part of the flooded area? Interesting.
Factory
As this area was largely derelict there was little of interest here for Kaz. He passed rusted pipes without seeming to notice much of his surroundings. He had come here with a singular purpose, though. Or perhaps it would be better to say he was looking for a singular person.
Gateway
Because Kaz used a cane to walk, it was surprising that he would even be able to navigate the overgrowth to begin with. But he picked up the cane and though he had a lopsided gait, he was agile enough that he could use the cane's handle as a hook and use the assisted jump to go over some clumped branches, or just side-step other obstacles. It was a maze to get through and more than once Kaz debated going back. But he persevered and eventually came to be standing before where the path sloped to continue underground.

"Did you repair storm damage yourself?"
Jonathan had been the one to tell Kaz that Agra-10 was an experiment in rebuilding a functioning society.

He raises a brow at the question, then gestures around them with a small shrug. "To the best of my abilities, I have. I have my limits, which is why my focus is on this building and the ones connected to it." It's slow progress, but it's progress.
no subject
"If you've done it yourself, did you see anything that appeared to be the remains of books, if not books themselves?"
no subject

"I would hope that any recorded history would not act like the Datapoints and only allow the knowledge of one record at a time?"
The lack of written language explained the bizarre word choices, at least. It would make the possibility of communication that much more difficult though.
no subject
"It's only the expertise data points that overwrite one another. You may have noticed that you don't lose the knowledge gained from the data point near the fountain." He points out and looks up to where the mothcat is still closely observing them.
no subject
"Then I would like to see those, please."
It's a grumbled statement rather than a question. This puzzle was like a knotted ball of yarn, but he was intent on teasing out the first threads. Kaz certainly doesn't want to deal with multiple Datapoints but he would still need to see what records there are in order to see if there was anything other people might have overlooked.
no subject
And this is a statement in return.
Thanks for hiding this from me DW
"I want to see anything that's left because it is very likely that I will notice some small detail that others, including you, will have overlooked."
Okay, that was not something Kaz wanted to say under any circumstances. The fact he had gave Kaz a moment of pause where he gave several rapid blinks in quick succession, then his black eyes focused on Jon as sharply as a knife's edge.
"...what did you just do to me?"
no subject
A scowl settling on his face, Jon inhales sharply, then exhales. "I asked you a question. And you were kind enough to answer. Thank you, Mr. Brekker. I suggest you take your leave now."
Maybe he should have apologized, Jon is aware of that. But saying he's sorry would have been a lie in this case as this young man has not made himself a very pleasant individual to be around in Jon's opinion.
no subject
"I don't do anything out of kindness. And I wouldn't have answered like that even if I was, by some stretch of the imagination, feeling particularly kind. What did you do to me?"
Magic or hypnotism, Kaz wasn't leaving of his own accord until he found out. This did bring up something else to do with Jon that Kaz had found odd at the time, but not enough to mention on its own.
no subject
Yes, that’s a threat.
no subject
"Is that what you were doing on the lower levels of Coruscant? I admit that I couldn't figure out why you were carrying that machine around down there and acting very strange. But I saw it at the meeting Ezra called and saw it recorded sound. It makes sense if you were doing whatever it is you do and having others reveal their darkest secrets.
So now what? Are you planning to kill me?"
If you went by his tone, Kaz was unconcerned with this possibility. It's not as if he had a deathwish, but without the power of his gang behind him, no Spider to find secrets for him, and nothing to use but his own mind in Temba, he had so little to work with. So he was forced to take bigger and bigger risks.
no subject
"So you saw me on Coruscant." He sums up, deliberately cutting out the acting very strange part as if it doesn't matter. Even though mentally Jon will keep that phrasing in mind. Has he really been acting that strangely?
"I don't tend to make a secret of what I am or what I can do and why. But I find it bothersome that you're obviously trying to use your observation as leverage against me. I will neither kill nor otherwise harm you, but I'm seriously questioning your motive."
no subject
"Right now my motive is complicated, so I won't try to explain. I'll only say that you were presenting a puzzle, and I dislike any puzzle I can't solve."
There was more to it, but much of it was subtle and much of it was to do with the complexity of connections between the people of Temba and the powers of those gathered. At the moment he regards Jon thoughtfully.
"Can you give more than one person orders to speak the truth to you at the same time?"
no subject
No, he is very much not inclined to provide an answer. Though his words 'tell me' may leave a tickling sensation at the back of Kaz's mind, as will simple, not actually enforced order. "Leave."
no subject
"The answer had everything to with who was connected to whom, and what powers others had, and what powers plus what personality would be complementary or conflicting. Since I didn't want to explain that I avoided answering. But now you've made me answer anyway, for all the good it does you."
Compulsion assisted or Kaz just being a jerk, who can say. However, he can tell Jon is certainly not going to admit to anything else. Changing his grip again on his cane, Kaz limped away again.
"But I am going now, as you like."
Just leaving this final comment to say that this icon is incredible in its grumpiness <3
