[There's a short burst of static as Altair fiddles with the still unfamiliar tech. He's more used to holocomms, though this isn't entirely that different. Given the usefulness of the thing, he's sure he'll get the hang of it eventually, anyway. For now? Just getting it to stay on voice in a network post he's made himself, rather than as a reply to someone else is an a small victory.]

Greetings, all. Some of you I have met before, but allow me to introduce myself properly- I am called Kallig and I come to you today with a question- those of you who have powers, have you noticed any changes in their nature, at all? If so, might I ask the nature of the change?

[A pause.] I was something of a... [Information hoarder.] Scholar, back home.

[Not a complete lie, definitely not the whole truth.] You all might see then, why I thrive on information.

I thought it prudent to check in with you all.

If we are being tossed together to see what'll stick, then we should probably try to get to know each other enough to not wish harm on one another in the future.

Knowing if any of you are used to or not used to interstellar travel, that would be useful to know as well.

You do sort of get used to it after a while... It's good that you're adaptable, though. Does make it easier to roll with the punches.

[He's more or less like that, himself.]

Archaeology was my main area of study, though I've poked my nose into a few others, as well.

Oh, yeah. I am an expert at rolling with punches. I learned from the best.

[The grin is pretty audible in his voice.]

Huh. Sounds pretty interesting. Was that part of the travel?

[He can't imagine trying to keep the history of multiple planets straight, but then, he is not the academic in this conversation.]

Rolling with the punches must have been an interesting field of study then.

[There's just a slight hint of humor to his voice.]

It was. The Empire is a large place, and Sith do so love to hide their temples and tombs away in the strangest of places. So it was part trying to locate the damned places, and then proceeded to become part reclaiming history, part trying to not get horribly murdered by traps.

[That gets a laugh.] It sure wasn't boring.

[He hasn't heard of an Empire or Sith - in that context - so it's probably a universe, well, other than his own. Although honestly, to Bucky, that makes it doubly interesting.] That sounds like it's a lot more dangerous than most archaeologists have it, where I'm from.

Unless you believe the movies, anyway.

[Someone's mentioned something called Indiana Jones to him, at least.]

Although it seems like you might have some pretty decent survival skills going for all that, then.

There were less dangerous forms of archaeology too, I'm sure, but I never took part in them. Not my field, after all.

[There was history everywhere, on every planet, but in the Empire, only Sith history mattered... And the hidden Knowledge of the Sith was his to reclaim. After all, that was what his seat on the Council existed for.

Nothing he really needs to get into now though.]

And I do, though not entirely for that reason.

Well, that would just be boring, after all. [He sounds a little bemused, but either way.]

Either way, if you've got the survival skills, I think you should count it as a win, around here.

Have you ever been anyplace like this planet? Seems like it might be a good, uh, dig site? [Is that what they're called?]

I suppose, a little.

[Once a Sith, always a Sith. He doesn't think he'd be satisfied, with less dangerous forms of archaeology, and given his Sphere of Influence, he's felt the need to be on the front lines himself, anyway. All Sith lead better in person than they do seated behind a desk somewhere, and he's no different.]

... I have not. [So far as dead planets, there's only been Ziost... Which he doesn't want to talk about. Besides, he ended up here, after watching, feeling all life on the planet die.] I'm sure my skills will end up useful eventually. For now, we must all focus on survival. A society can only function if it has access to shelter, water, and food, after all. And like it or not, this is our strange little society now.

[He pauses, thoughtful.] Currently it does seem like we're pretty well off, but that is not a guarantee that it will stay that way, especially given the- hm- everything.

... Though I imagine this form of communication that we've been so graciously given- [Can you hear the amount of salt there, Bucky? There is a lot of salt. A veritable mountain of salt. Nothing about anything here is gracious, it's only a pain in the ass.] -- will come to play a vital role, given that we can now coordinate more easily.

[Yeah, Bucky can hear the salt. And don't worry - he's got plenty of his own.]

Yeah, I kinda wonder what the catch is. I mean, they coulda had this all set up when we got here, you know? If they can give us communicators, why couldn't they have just fixed the damn power plant.

[He blows out a quiet breath.] I've seen people work with very little. But there's only so much you can take away before people start dying, and - [Not on my watch, he wants to say, but the worst part is, he can't promise a thing. And he knows it.]

I think we should be stocking up as best we can. Coupla us are used to harder times, and I think we should make use of what we know. Things are okay now, but they ain't gonna stay that way. They never do.

How are you at keeping records? [He figures the answer might be pretty good.]

I'm going to assume they're a just delightful mix of idiots and sadists.

[Honestly he's already so fed up with them. Kidnapping them from their world, even though they have all these resources that they apparently can just give out on whim...

It mystifies him that they haven't sought help from the people of this world, as this planet cannot be the only one to have housed a population. Surely they didn't need to kidnap people.] I agree with your assessment. We should be stocking up on food and drinkable water. That seems to be the shakiest resources, as shelter is more or less taken care of.

[Not that he stays at the hotel that much, personally.]

Adept. I had others working under me keeping records usually, but in the end, I was the one who had to sign off on them. And when it is something you do often, you tend to pick up a thing or three.

That's probably not a bad assessment, [Bucky admits wryly.] They're not all that much unlike the other kidnappers I have experience with, frankly.

[Which is worrying and suspicious, but nothing solid to go on, either.]

I'll take adept, [he says, with a soft chuckle.] I think we should try and keep track of who's here, how many people we have, and what resources are available. It'd make it easier to get that stockpile going, and even if we end up disappearing or... [dying, he doesn't say,] something else, then it's not like other people have to start from scratch.

I take your point, [The dying, that was left unsaid. He doesn't need to hear the word to grasp the meaning of that pause,] and I agree.

I'll be doing my best to keep track of... Well, everything.

[At least it'll keep his mind occupied.]

Thanks. I think it's a job worth doing.

I'll do what I can, too. It's always best to have a backup, right?
