"That's an important lesson, and I've had trouble with it, too," Ezra agrees.

Then he blinks as her last sentence registers. "Engineered. Is it rude to ask if that how, um, most of your people come into existence?"

"No," she answered honestly. "Some of the soldiers, yes. Genetically designed and neurally trained to be a good soldier."

But most Kree were properly born. Just the warriors like her had the 'privilege' to be made. But there were plenty of soldiers who were not.

Designed and neurally trained sounds kinda ominous. Ezra's reminded of the clone troopers here in his galaxy.

"What if you decided you want to do something else?" he asked, quietly. "Not... bad things. Just something different. Like art, or medicine."

IT should seem ominous. Lauri-Ell is not a natural being and that is ominous.

"Art?" Lauri-Ell asked. She was not familiar with art. "What is art?"

Medicine is definitely a field of study, but not for her.

"I believe part of the confusion comes from the differences in our culture. My people have been extant and spacefaring for more than a million years. Our technology is often at the forefront of all, and much of what other races believe to be necessary, we do not. The fact that I was genetically engineered means I was made to be perfect for what I do, that I was as born to be military as the child of any Kree military officer. Though the fact that I did not 'grow up' with it as others do perhaps explains why I am less... enamored with violence."

She was made for war, and she was one of the best at it of all of her people. Something she had tried to find her way free of, only for the Universal Weapon to come into her hands.

Oh boy. There's a lot to unpack there, Ezra thinks.

"Art is...well, I'm not much of an artist, although one of the best warriors I know is," he says earnestly. What would Sabine say, here? "Lots of things can be art. Paintings. Sculpture. Music. Any design that isn't, um, the bare essentials to function can be art. Things that appeal to the senses, or mean things."

"Can flowers be art?"

They aren't functional to the Kree society. But they are pretty. And she liked flowers. Who didn't? And Kree didn't keep them much.

"I think so, yeah," he says after a beat of consideration. "Plant them in a pattern, or arrange the cut flowers. Or take a picture?"

"That would be lovely," Lauri-Ell smiles. "I would like art if it was flowers."

Because all other art is just strangely theoretical.

"I'm sure there's all kind of books on art here in the Archives," he offers, smiling back. "And have you seen the gardens here in the Temple?"
kree_soldieress: Lauri-Ell from Captain Marvel (Default)

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2021-04-22 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, but art will not solve our problems," she answered. So she did not intend to look. "I have been shown the gardens. They are lovely. I go and look when I need a break."

"I'm pretty sure Sabine would have something clever to say about the usefulness of art right about now," Ezra murmured But he was not Sabine andhe barely understood half of what she meant when she got on a tear like that.

"But yeah, art specific to here and now is probably not why we're here," he conceded.

Sabine? Clever about art? Intriguing. If only she understood any of it.

"Yes, that is why I am reading books," she offered with a smile. "I am trying to determine why this world and not another is common for arrivals. Well, perhaps not this world."

But places reachable from it.

"For one thing, I have studied star charts. This place has no charts that, at a quick glance, are in line with Kree known space."
ezra_of_lothal: (Ezra shrugging by redacreuse)

[personal profile] ezra_of_lothal 2021-04-26 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Totally different galaxy?" Ezra suggested. "Totally different reality? It seems like that's a thing."
kree_soldieress: Lauri-Ell from Captain Marvel (Default)

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2021-04-27 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, it is likely," Lauri-Ell agreed. "It has been something others from my universe have suggested."
ezra_of_lothal: (Default)

[personal profile] ezra_of_lothal 2021-04-27 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"So there's other clusters of people who tell their connected to the same...universe?" Ezra checked. "I know there's Billy and Tommy."
kree_soldieress: Lauri-Ell from Captain Marvel (Default)

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2021-04-29 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, she smiles at that. "And Teddy and myself. We are all from the same universe. As is Mister Stark. Tommy, William, and Stark are all from a world called Earth and are of the three human species there. I am Kree, and from a very different planet far from them. Teddy is a hybrid of my species and another called Skrull."

So she was very happy to talk about the species she knew. There were plenty of others of course, but we are all of that same universe. I think Miss Lorna was too. Wanda..."

Lauri-Ell tilts her head to consider.

"She both is and is not. Kree are of course understanding of multiverse theory, and we have been visited by Kree of other universes, so my best belief is she is of another universe, but a close one. The people here..."

She gestures out around them widely, meaning to take in all of this place and the people from the universe.

"This seems to be very far away from mine. There is nothing here that resembles other star charts, as I said, but still there are humans. This intrigues me deeply."
ezra_of_lothal: (Ezra thoughtful by recadreuse)

[personal profile] ezra_of_lothal 2021-05-04 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Multiverse theory," Ezra echoes. "I don't think I've ever heard that exact phrase before, but then, like I said, just about everything I've ever learned has needed to know and apply pretty immediately." Not much room for any kind of theory.

"Well, I guess that's something I can look up here. And we can compare notes."

[personal profile] kree_soldieress 2021-05-04 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"That would be nice. I have difficulty figuring how to use the systems here. They are so strange to me, compared to Kree technology."

And Kree technology was everything she knew to work by.
