Cobb's Event Catch All | Open
WHO: Cobb Vanth & All
WHERE: Various locations across Coruscant.
WHAT: Adventures across the planet
WHEN: Event
WARNINGS: Cussing. Angst. Possible violence. Will update as necessary.
This was not how Cobb imagined his first time off Tatooine. Then again, with his history, maybe he should have expected his first trip in space and to a Core world would be against his will. These Agrii fellas needed to learn to ask for permission. He would've said yes if they had asked. Instead, there was a little bubble of resentment brewing towards their alien captors.
But that anger could wait. A lot of people here had no idea how to navigate any planet in the galaxy much less one like Coruscant. Stars, even Cobb was a little out of his element but at least he could read the writing and understand how things worked in general. The first thing he focused on was getting everyone else settled and comfortable to go around by themselves. It was a lot of explaining how credit worked and offering to help if anyone needed it.
It took a few days before Cobb disappeared on his own one morning. The credits provided by the Agrii and the few he had on him when he got taken were burning a hole in his pocket. He went to the market and found himself some pieces of durasteel armor and a padded armor suit to wear underneath. It was, without a doubt, the nicest thing Cobb had ever owned, gleaming a brass-gold color against the black padded suit and soft green cloak he also bought to hide the scars that peeked out from the suit.
Damn if he didn't feel guilty for the two-thousand credits he handed over to buy it.
He just couldn't help but think of all the necessary things he could buy for home or this group of people at that cost. Two thousand credits would never got that far on Tatooine where everything was so damn expensive but it could've done something good. But after putting it all on he looked like he belonged on a Core world instead of an outsider in ragged clothes. Clothes he kept because they were still good enough for home and no one wasted anything on Tatooine. The armor though... wearing it he felt... like someone important and wasn't that a heavy thing?
Not only did the armor protect him and help him blend in, now he could get into better bars and taverns where they played high stakes sabacc. Cobb had learned his numbers playing the card game and was damn good at it. Good enough to win games against rich fools who tossed credits around like they could be dug up from the sand. That real vindictive part of himself really enjoyed it.
And everything he won now went to what they'd need to survive and anyone else who needed a few spare credits.
After all, he could always win more.

Reinforced plastoid probably would've been good enough, now that he thought about it but it was one of those things that reminded him of the Empire and had been as expensive as durasteel back home.
"Bet it feels a lot lighter than what I got. And has more fancy toys."
no subject
But Cobb assumed correctly. "Kaminoans may not know what comfort means, but they had the right idea," he admitted. "This is the standard kit with Advanced Recon perks. Winged pauldrons, more plating, the kama. A pair of DC-17s and extra munitions along with a survival pack added to the weight, but it's not so bad." Because he was used to wearing everything by now. "And everything's custom-painted – which is probably against regulations, but no one's ever stopped us..."
He drank the rest of his spotchka, sighing as he looked into the empty glass. He then glanced over at the Marshal. "That scar," he quietly observed, indicating the line running along the right side of Cobb's face. "How'd you end up with it?"
no subject
At the question something dark and heavy passed over Cobb's face before he drank the rest of his spotchka in one go. "That's not a good story," he said as he poured himself a second drink. "Maybe another time."
It was never a good time to talk about slavery or the chip an amateur surgeon had pulled out of his head. He might never tell that story.
no subject
The expression that crossed Cobb's features wasn't lost on him. He had seen other clones bear similar looks whenever seemingly innocuous subjects arose during their downtime, and if Cobb didn't want to talk about it he didn't have to.
After a pause, he nodded. "...Another time, then."
no subject
He was a little surprised, honestly, that Echo didn’t press. And his growing respect for the soldier grew just a little bit more. His shoulders relaxed and he went back to sipping his spotchka.
“Appreciate that,” he said with a little nod. “So... before I interrupted your night out, what were your plans while we’re here?”
no subject
During pause, he helps himself to some more spotchka, setting the bottle down when Cobb comes back around to speaking.
He hums into his glass, lowering it a few inches from where it used to sit. "Truthfully? I didn't have much of a plan. When we all got the message, I was more concerned about how everyone would fare upon landing. Once we found out things weren't as we thought, I was just told to go and enjoy myself." He drinks down half, setting the rest down on his thigh plate. "So far I've only bought some items and clothing as stock in case we have any other people joining us on Temba."

"The kid didn't tell me how cold but I'm not looking forward to it." Spending his whole life under two suns meant he'd only been cold at night. Cold when the sun was up? That seemed impossible.
There were whole planets of ice and snow out there. Cobb had never seen them but he knew they existed. He hoped that wasn't what they'd return to.
no subject
Echo's only familiar with 'rain' cold and 'space' cold. The former at least falls into the category of 'bad weather' so he has that covered, ponchos included. But it never hurts to have some heavier articles of clothing on hand in case things get worse.
"Which kid?"
no subject
He would have to bundle up and look a little ridiculous to be comfortable but he would survive it like he had survived everything else life had thrown at him.
"Ezra." Cobb held a hand up at approximately Ezra's height. "One of the Jedi kids."
Ezra was old enough to be an adult, honestly, but just about everyone shorter and younger than Cobb got called a kid.
no subject
Maybe there was a shortcut to the layering, like adding in an insulated bodyglove to add warmth and lessen material bulk?
Echo perked. "Oh, Ezra. Yeah, he's a good kid." And to be fair, they were all good kids, even if he was technically younger than they currently were.
no subject
But he'd remember that bit about changing clothes. Seemed reasonable. On Tatooine if someone managed to get that wet somehow they'd just stand in the suns for awhile and be dry.
"He is. Real helpful. Seems smart." Cobb liked the kid. He had spirit. "I miss the little womp rat though. Haven't seen him since he went to the temple. He's another good kid."
He means Mando's kid.
no subject
Was Echo really helping? Who knew. It still counted as a warning.
They seemed to agree on liking Ezra, though. "He's itching to get to work, all right. I kind of wanna watch an' see what he does."
There was a beat where he had to figure out who else Cobb was talking about, and it went by process of elimination. 'Little womp rat' didn't seem to fit Cal because Cal was tall, and Ezra was already stated as 'kid.' "Grogu?" That was the name Obi-Wan left him with, and there weren't many other younglings he knew of heading off to the Jedi Temple.
no subject
"Pretty sure I can count on him to help with the plans I have for when we get back," Cobb said with a nod of agreement. He had a good feeling about a few people that would chip in.
"Yeah, Grogu." Cobb just tended to call the kid by various nicknames since he didn't know his name when they first met. "Shouldn't have favorites but I'm pretty fond of him."
no subject
This was the first time he'd ever heard the nickname. "I haven't had the chance to meet him properly yet," Echo chuckled. Kenobi did say he would introduce the two, but it felt like a veiled threat. Maybe he was just reading way too much into it. "But there's nothing wrong with having a favorite."
no subject
There wasn't much for a man who knew how to mine, refine oil, and shoot people. He hoped the others were doing better 'learning' like the Agrii asked them to. Because Cobb hadn't learned much personally.
"He doesn't say much but he's real expressive." Cobb didn't know how else to explain Grogu. Or maybe he was just good at reading people. He was starting to figure out Mando's head tilts too. "Ah, it's just because I've spent a few days with him and Mando before."
no subject
The Agrii left their learning message pretty open to interpretation and he didn't like that. He was used to having direction. In comparison, he Marshal at least had plans. "And no military bases to report to," he murmured, shaking his head. "Whenever you do start building things, let me know. I've had too much time on my hands."
And there was even more time to spend on Coruscant (but he would figure it out eventually).
Cobb's explanation did lay out a little more detail about the child, however. "Yeah? I haven't seen Mando in a while, but I figure he's been doing okay for himself. Are the two always together?"
no subject
"Oh, I'll make an announcement of it." Cobb gestured to the ships with his hand. "There are probably a few people who want to make somethin' of where we live. Might as well band 'em together as best I can. Be glad for the help."
It took a community to build a town. Cobb knew that from experience. But people needed to care which not everyone would. It would be... interesting.
"Yeah, he's probably huntin'. He'll be back." Cobb trusted the man wouldn't be away for too long. But he had always come and gone as he pleased from what Cobb knew of him. "They were when I first met 'em. I would imagine not much has changed."
no subject
Having more to do meant less to think about, and Cobb trying to band everyone together to help out was promising. "Looking forward to it."
One more pour. One more for Cobb, too, since he was the one who brought the bottle. Echo couldn't help but smile at imagining the Mando holding Grogu. "So long as he's not having any trouble taking care of the child. It must be hard work, though."
no subject
Family was important. Cobb's own family had been sold across Tatooine. He still didn't know what happened to them. He could easily imagine the sort of pain those two would go through being separated having been through it himself.
"He's probably off bounty huntin'. Actually, that's somethin' a soldier with no war could do if you want to earn credits." Cobb considered Echo for a moment. "Just to have somethin' to do and keep your fightin' skills sharp."
no subject
Being presented with the opportunity to try his hand at bounty hunting was never a priority before, nor was it a conscious choice. However, the reason behind the suggestion made sense. Months without anything happening on Agra 10 slowly whittled away at his training, and he only got lucky getting more practice in when the spiders showed up.
With that, Echo nodded, bringing the glass up to his lips. "Good point. I'll look into that.
"What about you, Vanth? Gambling can't be the only thing you're doing here."
no subject
"Been buyin' up a lot of supplies to take back. Got a proper tool kit to fix things up. Dry goods. Some seeds to plant just to see if they can grow. The basics." Cobb shrugged, that was it. Besides gambling and picking up what he felt they needed back in town he hadn't done much.
"Might get some holovids and books to bring back. Not like I can afford a speeder to bring back." Yeah, his plan was gamble and shop. No plans to go near the Jedi temple or explore the other wonders of Coruscant. This much civilization was... overwhelming. Not that he would admit that.
no subject
In the end, it was wiser to limit the expeditions to the lower levels.
Entertainment was easier to transport than an actual mode of transportation. "Can we even fit a speeder on any of these shuttles?"
no subject
And he did plan to go out with Cayde which would probably lead to trouble if anyone discovered he was a "droid". There might be another fight in his future. Hopefully, Echo wouldn't need to step in there.
"No idea. The cargo hold isn't small. Maybe a crate of speeder parts to build back on Tembra's the better option." Cobb knocked back the rest of his drink. "But I haven't tried. We'll see if anyone else gets the idea."
no subject
Maybe a few places that involve admission fees in the near future, but that's about it. Even then, it's still going toward supplies and inventory.
no subject
Yeah, he liked the man. Cobb couldn't deny it. There was something about the clone that... spoke to him. A strange understanding of what it was like to exist for someone else' purpose and not your own.
"And if you want to take a look at what I've got so far, make suggestions of what else we might need we can do that too." So far, Cobb had resisted buying up gallons of water out of a lifelong need for it. There were probably others things he hadn't considered.
