Starduck

Grogu has no idea why he can get into this ship, but Din can't. It's such a pretty ship! Much fancier than the Razor Crest. Not that he didn't love the Razor Crest, but he can't resist the allure of the shiny buttons and knobs that this ship has to offer.

On any given day he can be found fiddling with buttons and knobs (now that he knows what most of them do, he tries to avoid ones that might break something) or standing in the kitchen trying to figure out how to make food happen. Ignoring the bunks, he got one of the lockers opened and made a little nest for himself out of the sheets and towels. He often nestles inside, turning a little silver ball over in his hands.

Twin Roses

This ship isn't as shiny as the Starduck, but it's the one Din is on and Din often brings him onto the ship with him. Grogu still likes this ship and has taken to climbing up to look out the various windows while Din does... whatever it is that he does. He can also be found either in, or climbing down from, Din's bunk. Usually ignoring Din's orders to 'stay there.'

Babysitting Duty!

So you've been asked (ordered?) to babysit the kid while Din goes off and does something dangerous. Aren't you lucky! What do you do?!

Shiro was going to walk with him over to the table, going slow so that he didn't get there too far ahead of him. He was a rather cute little guy. Hard to believe that one so young was here.

Or was he young? Hard to tell with alien races.

At least he seemed interested in the sandwich.

"Do you need a hand?" Shiro asked as they reached the table, asking if he needed help getting into the chair.

He's old for a youngling... but that's what happens when your race lives for hundreds of years.

Grogu gives climbing into the chair a shot. It's a little high... He might make it, but some help would be appreciated.

Shiro watched for a moment to see if he was able to get it, but when it looked like he was struggling, he put the plate down and helped Grogu into the seat.

"There you go. And here is your sandwich." He moved the plate closer to ensure Grogu could reach it easier. "Let me get you something to drink."

And he'd go get Grogu and himself a drink before coming back and sitting down at the table with him.

Hey thanks, tall person! By the time Shiro returned with the drink, half of the sandwich was stuffed into his mouth. He seemed to be enjoying it!

"Slow down there," Shiro said with a chuckle. Boy, he must have been hungry. "I can always make you more if you like it and you're still hungry."

He sat down, setting the drinks down for himself and Grogu.

He was a growing kid! Also he didn't usually get food that actually tasted good, so this was a treat.

He pulled part of the sandwich out of his mouth so he could smile and nod. Thank you tall stranger.

Shiro smiled back. "I'm glad you like it. I'm Shiro. If you get hungry, you can always come find me and I'll get you something."

If nothing else, these peanut butter and jelly sandwiches seemed to be a good option.

The kid made a noise that... could be him trying to tell Shiro his name? The world may never know. But he stuffed another huge bite of sandwich into his mouth and definitely seemed happy!

Well, he will take that for an introduction even if he's not sure what was said. At least he was happy with the sandwich. That was good enough.

He would wait until Grogu didn't have his mouth full before he asked, "Are you here alone?"

That's the safest way to do it. He's gotten used to people either assuming what he's saying or pretending like he didn't say anything.

He swallows and looks up with a little Buh noise. His ears raise as he shakes his head. No, he's not here alone.

Okay, not alone. That was understandable at least.

"That's good you aren't alone. Are they on this ship with you?"

Yes and no answers he can do. He's learned the benefits of head movements, mostly from watching Din talk to people.

He hesitates for a moment, his ears lowering before he shakes his head. No. They got stuck on different ships.

"Oh, I see. Well, at least there is someone you know from home. And you can always come to me if you need help on this ship and your friend is not around."

Hey, cool. It's good to have someone else on the ship who likes him. Cayde is a good person (droid?), too. Catra doesn't seem to like him, though. He smiles up at Shiro and nods.

Yeah, Shiro did like him. He had no reason to not like him so he did. He was learning yes and no questions were better to get answers with so that would keep their conversations simple.

He smiled back and took a sip of his drink.

Yes, good. He'd learned that nodding and shaking his head were good easy ways to communicate with people who couldn't understand him. He's happy it's working out!

Right now, though, conversation isn't on the forefront of his mind. It's stuffing the rest of that sandwich into his mouth.

Shiro just watched as he did that. Instinct was to stop him from stuffing the sandwich so decidedly in his mouth. But maybe that was normal for him? He wasn't sure. He'd never seen his race before. So he settled for a dad comment that was more cautionary.

"Careful not to eat too fast."

He's used to not having a lot of food, so he takes advantage when he can get it!

When he's cautioned about it he gets self-conscious, though. He lowers the sandwich, pulling a half-chewed bit from his mouth.

"No, it's okay. You can still eat," Shiro said. "I just didn't want you to choke on it. I worry about things like that."

He's very much a dad even though he doesn't have kids. Sorry, it's hard to turn it off.

Oh... He looks down at the sandwich. He doesn't really have variable speeds when it comes to eating. But... he can try? He moves very slowly, taking one bite and lowering the rest of the sandwich. Better?

"Sorry to make you concerned about that," Shiro remarked. "I just didn't want you to get hurt."

Oh okay. He understood that thought. That got a smile and a nod. Thanks for worrying, Shiro.

Shiro smiled back. "Let me know if you'd like more when you are done."

And he'll let him work on his food.
