Starduck

Grogu has no idea why he can get into this ship, but Din can't. It's such a pretty ship! Much fancier than the Razor Crest. Not that he didn't love the Razor Crest, but he can't resist the allure of the shiny buttons and knobs that this ship has to offer.

On any given day he can be found fiddling with buttons and knobs (now that he knows what most of them do, he tries to avoid ones that might break something) or standing in the kitchen trying to figure out how to make food happen. Ignoring the bunks, he got one of the lockers opened and made a little nest for himself out of the sheets and towels. He often nestles inside, turning a little silver ball over in his hands.

Twin Roses

This ship isn't as shiny as the Starduck, but it's the one Din is on and Din often brings him onto the ship with him. Grogu still likes this ship and has taken to climbing up to look out the various windows while Din does... whatever it is that he does. He can also be found either in, or climbing down from, Din's bunk. Usually ignoring Din's orders to 'stay there.'

Babysitting Duty!

So you've been asked (ordered?) to babysit the kid while Din goes off and does something dangerous. Aren't you lucky! What do you do?!

Obi-Wan just gives him a look and then beckons the youngster to come over to his bunk which was under another.

“You should be asleep, Grogu,” he says softly so as not to disturb anyone else.

“Come, tell me why you’re actually awake.”

Grogu looks up at Din's still helmet, reaching out gently with his mind to make sure he's asleep and not just laying there listening. Nope, he's asleep.

Turning back, he makes his way across to Master Kenobi's bunk, ears still lowered as he looks up at him. He opens his mind to the Jedi, He'd been dreaming about the Jedi Temple... about everything that happened. Being around Jedi again has brought back memories he'd been trying to avoid thinking about.

“Oh... I see,” Obi-Wan says softly. There is a sadness and a compassionate understanding in his voice. He then reaches out his hands, offering to pick Grogu up if he allows it and put him on his bunk with him.

I dream about that too. That’s why I’m awake as well.

Obi-Wan resorting to speaking to Grogu, mind to mind, so that there was no risk of disturbing anyone.

Nodding, Grogu raises his arms, letting Obi-Wan pick him up. Really, if he couldn't trust Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, who could he trust?

He blinks at him, cooing softly. You do? I'm sorry, you lost so many, too.

Smiling sadly as he laid back on the bunk, Obi-Wan just sighed softly as he continued to speak to Grogu telepathically.

We all lost a lot that day, young one. You, me, Cal, we lost not only our friends and the only family we ever had, but our home as well. It’s natural to be sad, and lonely, even scared sometimes.

He knew that Grogu was scared. Obi-Wan could hardly blame him, especially at the thought of losing this new family he found with the Mandalorian.

Grogu sits down next to Obi-Wan, looking at him as they spoke. He hasn't talked to anyone other than Ahsoka in so very long. It's nice... even if they're speaking about something so sad. At the mention of family, he looks over at Din

He's lonely, too. There's so much fear and death and fighting everywhere.

Obi-Wan’s gaze followed Grogu’s to the Mandalorian.

Without the Jedi, that will only continue I’m afraid. That is why those few of us who are still alive must pass on what we know. So that someday we can bring peace again.

He had very seldom spoke this way with other Jedi. It was a skill they all had but rarely used. Yet he found it nice as well to be able to communicate with Grogu.

He looked back at Obi-Wan briefly before his gaze drops. It's good to talk about this... well, it's good to talk about anything, but it's good to talk to someone who understands.

Are there enough left?

He's had to hide who he was for so long and so few people seem to even know who the Jedi were anymore. What was even the point of being trained, anyway?

Though it was a sad thing to talk about, it was something Grogu needed. They both needed it really. Obi-Wan had been in isolation for a few weeks already before being brought here and he had felt the loneliness keenly.

I don’t know. But that is why each of us is precious. So long as at least one of us remains, there is a chance for our light to grow.

That was the point. If they didn’t pass on the ways of the Jedi, then the Order would truly be gone. Their memory and wisdom lost forever.

He could sense Obi-Wan's sadness and loneliness. He reaches out a hand and touches his arm.

Were you hiding, too?

He knew that feeling, well. He showed Obi-Wan glimpses of what he remembered of his time being hidden away before Din found him and saved him.

His sadness only deepens as he receives glimpses of Grogu’s own past of being in darkness. The whole galaxy had felt so cold and dark after the Jedi had been all but snuffed out completely.

Yes, I was. And will be for some time I think.

He passes on his own brief flashes of a desert wasteland. A lonely hut in the middle of nowhere. Twin suns blazing down on the rocks and sand. A world that Grogu might recognize.

It seems to Grogu that a lot of things had been plunged into darkness and sadness... he could only hope that things would somehow get better. At least things didn't seem so dark when he was traveling with Din.

He does recognize that planet, as it so happens.

Tatooine? We've been there!

Have you now? What would bring you there?

It’s a backwater planet with not much to show for anything. Unless you’re hunting or being hunted. The later of which applied to him of course.

He recognizes the glimmer of happiness in the child though as his thoughts drift to his guardian. It’s good that he found someone to help him and rely on. Though he still wondered about that attachment. Was it truly at the level of being detrimental?

Grogu shows Obi-Wan some images of their time on Tatooine. Peli Motto and her ridiculous droid crew. Marshall Cobb in his purchased Mandalorian Armor. The Tusken Raider camp. The Krayt Dragon.

They had some interesting adventures on Tatooine. It was fraught with danger, and he'd almost been taken by a bounty hunter there, but they always emerged victorious. Also, that's where they met the Frog Lady and her jar of delicious eggs.

That was certainly a lot to take in. But he recognizes Mos Eisley and the long stretches of sandy nothing. He had never seen a Krayt dragon though. Not yet, anyway.

You had quite the adventures. I can see why you would be reluctant to part ways with your caretaker.

He might have felt the same were he in Grogu’s position.

He looks down, ears lowering in shame. He knew as a Jedi he wasn't supposed to feel attachments like that. Yet, he did. He'd gotten so close to Din in such a short span of time and he wasn't sure he was ready to let go of that.

He feels and sees the shame. Instead of admonishing the young child though, Obi-Wan reaches out to him with compassion. Knowing such conflicting feelings rather well.

It’s all right young one. Having these feelings is not wrong of itself. You are far from the only Jedi to have experienced them.

Plus he was still a child, having been removed from the Jedi for so long. It was understandable really. Even if it was something he would have to learn to temper if he was to continue his training.

The compassion warms him and he smiles. He's hidden for so long, so much training has been forgotten or neglected. It felt a bit like a reawakening to be near someone as attuned to the Force as Master Kenobi.

Thank you Master Kenobi. I know I still have much to learn.

As do we all, young one.

The Jedi Master smiling back at the little green toddler. Putting his arm around him in a loose, but comforting embrace.

Now, do you think you can sleep?

The thought of sleep coupled with Master Kenobi's embrace trigger a big yawn. He nodded, his eyes drifting closed.

That's good. He wasn't about to let the child go wandering around the ship by himself, and he needed his rest. So when Grogu's eyes fell closed, Obi-Wan carefully made them both comfortable and pulled the blanket up so that the little one would be warm.

Eventually, once he was sure the child was sleeping, he too would drift off.

It took him another moment to fully fall asleep, but he felt safe and secure with the Jedi. Like Cal had said, knowing others survived did help ease his troubled mind. Din was a comfort, for sure, but there was something familiar about the softer Jedi clothing.

Soon he was fast asleep and there would be no more bad dreams that night.
