Hey guys! Got some good news for you.

[Cal smiles as he turns the communicator's camera about to show the Replicator sitting on a worktable within the salvage shop. BD-1 stands on top of it, poking a foot at the light indicators.]

Finally got this thing fixed. It's running apart from the main power grid though, so the output might not be as much as it was before, but it's working now. I can have this thing moved back to the um... "Whale Comb Sent Her" unless anyone has any suggestions for somewhere else.

Astronomical. I'm a hot commodity. I'll take BD as a down payment.

I'm not saying he isn't worth a pretty penny. Just that I'm prettier.

I was going to make fun of you for that, but I'm thinking about it, and it sounds like something I would be into.

I would be willing to do an interview for an oil bath.

'Vat' is the worst way you could have put that. I will exclusively be talking about this with BD. Send him over. Maybe you can join us for coffee later.

You're right, I'll come to you. Give me a minute, traffics terrible, trains aren't even running.

A minute to get across the city to Cal's workshop would have been nice. As it was, while Tony's arm was healing rapidly with the help of Extremis and definitely leagues better than it had been while it was still wrapped, the whole thing felt tender and new and still exhausted him by the time he made it to Cal's workshop from the forge. The cart he hauled came through the door first as Tony kicked it through, thoroughly done with dragging it any further, then he slouched against the doorframe to take a look around the place, unimpressed on principle. "You're in the middle of nowhere. You're basically a hermit out here, you're one of those weirdos off living in the woods," he complained, as though the forge wasn't just as far from the city centre in the opposite direction.

With a delicate hand to his chest, Tony pointed out, "I didn't have a choice," so they were clearly at an impasse, except that Cal was being cruel by not bringing himself closer when he knew Tony had all of this stuff to give him. The least he could do was offer Tony a seat, which Tony gladly stepped around the cart to drape himself into, arms spread across the counter behind him where he had to tip his head back over his shoulder to examine what Cal had been playing with.

His thing first. His thing should have been weeks ago, and would have saved Tony the extra work this painful period had brought upon him. "Full disclosure," he started, "this might be bullshit." Sundance seemed like a straight shooter, but Tony would not be surprised if this was Cayde's version of a very drawn out prank. "But I believe what I have for you is some kind of teleporter. I've got schematics, but it needs a new power system."

"It's kind of like a transporter..." Tony started, tilting his hand back and forth then letting it drop loosely again, looking irritated that Cal wouldn't get his important Star Trek frame of reference. That was the first thing he had to show the kid about Earth culture, if he ever got the chance. "We've got a beacon, and an area of effect. Not unlike your other quality of life project over there, this thing is going to break stuff down and spit it back out. Can't be that hard."

The size of the thing hadn't been much of a factor to Tony, making him frown thoughtfully as he considered Cal's framing, scanning over the details that Sundance had dumped on him with a distracted blankness aimed vaguely in the middle of the room. "The guys who gave me the plans said something about it being orbit to surface, but...if we can get a system working that gets fish from the coast to Tommy downtown, I think we've got something."

tony wants to, I do not, don't make me science

"We can multitask. Where's BD?" Tony said, already dumping the plans to Cal's communicator, but sure this process would be much smoother with the droid's projection skills. "What was your thing, is it this?" he continued as he picked up one of the broken components on the counter, twisting it in his hand to try to place it and concluding. "This is nothing. Echo's armour is broken or something, did you know that?" Maybe that was a little obvious.

Twisting the component again like he was taunting Cal to try to take it from him and explain what Tony was holding, Tony replied, "He said it was in pieces or something, I don't know, I don't listen to other people's problems. He said he knew you, though, and I thought that was a bit weird, you'd be the guy to ask about that. I'd ask you about my armor. Hey, I've got a question for you." That wasn't at all what Tony meant to get out of testing Cal about Echo, but not he was bouncing up out of his drape against the counter, hands cupped toward each other over his heart as he tried to formulate what he actually had to ask Cal about, and not the whole story. "Cloud said you could show me how to recharge the crystal rods," was how it came out. Maybe he really wasn't all that good at other people's problems.
