I have been working on brushing up on things that have come to pass before my arrival here, and how what I found might allow me to provide further assistance to people.
[The woman looks... a bit nervous before she continues speaking.]
It is clear to me that the cold time of the year is approaching. There are things that may not be as available to us to do otherwise with the cold. And I have thought perhaps there are things we can do to foster a sense of community.
[Kree were very big on small unit cohesion.]
Often my people did this with combat training. This does not seem appropriate. Is there something else that people do in this season that I might be able to assist in setting up?
[Okay, maybe she wants to learn more about humans and their habits.]
If not, I can teach people to fight. It is good for fitness.

[Which means adaptation.]
Do you know how to do basic calisthenics? We can start with push ups. Core strength is good.
no subject
Calisthenics.
[ For a moment he looks surprised, but then appears almost apologetic. ]
I... Read about it. When looking into a gym run by- I mean. It's that practice from ancient Greece that doesn't require any equipment.
[ A pause, then he remembers the suggestion of push ups. ]
Uh, r-right. Push-ups. [ Inhale. ] I know those. I can do those...
no subject
Then let's go deal with the push-ups first. Unless you would prefer a walk before laps. No, wait, stretching first. Humans need more stretches.
no subject
Well, I did ask for this, I suppose. Let's see...
[ And he's just like... Stretching his arms over his head? Look, he may know his way around myths, legends, gods, demons or whatever esoteric stuff a type of sport may be named after, but you may bet he never actually has done or paid attention to any warm-ups. He might be more familiar with cat stretches. ]
no subject
The important part is warm muscles. If you work on cold muscles, you can hurt yourself. Pulled muscles are bad. Torn are worse.
no subject
...y-yeah. I- It makes sense. Vocal chords... I'm more familiar with warming those up.
no subject
I would like to assist you in this. But to correct your stretches, I may need to touch you. Is this allowable?
[Consent matters to even large blue warrior women.]
no subject
Then again, Lauri doesn't seem to be interested in kidnapping him. So he nods along with a little shrug. ]
Ah, sure. You're the expert, Miss Lauri.
no subject
You should feel a bit of strain now, and warmth in the muscles. Very good, yes?
no subject
He does, indeed, feel the strain. And it's not necessarily bad, either. ]
...oh. A-ah, yes. I- I can feel it. Not unpleasant, just- New?
no subject
[She smiles warmly at his declaration and helps him move through each stretch. He is good, to let her do this.]
When we do these, I shall teach you how to build muscle.
no subject
Right. That's- That's what I was hoping for. Until now I have been rather... Unhelpful. Quite good at embarrassing myself, at least.
no subject
[She smiles and once it's all done she gestures for him to follow her.]
We shall start with legs. I have ideas for that.
no subject
I- I already tried that one. Didn't go very well.
[ Pause. ]
...I nearly shot Cayde. ...and ended up hurting people.
no subject
I can teach you how to handle a gun as well, if you desire. I can even give you a target. The hammer would protect me.
no subject
Th-thanks, but... I really don't wish to fire or even hold a gun. All I wish is to be able to clear out a room. Or move a piece of rubble without nearly breaking my back.
no subject
[She smiles at the idea of it all.]
Legs first. Then arms. Legs balance you.
And we can totally handwave the rest of the training session if you want
[ They aren't exactly in a situation that requires them to constantly fight opponents after all.
He nods. ]
Legs first. I am ready.
no subject
Here. YOu did well.
no subject
But there comes the point where even Jon can't push himself any further and gladly accepts the offered water while dropping down to sit on a piece of crumbled wall while trying to catch his breath still. ]
Th-thanks, Lauri. I... I sure feel like hell. Which I assume is entirely normal.
no subject
[But she was a warrior designed to fight for many days on end, so her metric for fatigue was very different.]
no subject
[ He says this between sips of water and a look down at his sweaty self. ]
At least I won't have any trouble sleeping tonight. My body may need that extra recovery.
no subject
[She finds water for herself and sips from that as well.]
If you return tomorrow, we will do a lighter day, just stamina. We can alternate daily goals.
no subject
Then I will see you tomorrow.
no subject
[She grins and nods.]
I will be ready for you.
