It's at a hobbling pace at best, but Cayde and Jon eventually do make it to where they'd all first started on this strange mission. Anyone would be hard-pressed to stay put what with all the alarms going off, and although given the state of the latter of the two would probably have been better left in medbay to rest, it's hardly the worst decision of all their questionable ones already made the past couple of days.
"Whatever happened, I swear I didn't touch anything!" the Exo announces once they arrive, still somehow managing to sound his usual perky self despite having gotten shot and nearly melted but a day ago. In afterthought he cheerfully adds, "Also- honey, I'm home!"
It had become increasingly clear that this whole thing could officially be classified a shitshow. Without hide nor hair of Steve or Wanda passing through the shuttle bay where everyone else seemed to be showing up and expecting answers and, ideally, directions, and instead what seemed to be new information by the minute, Tony leaned anxiously with both hands braced on the console and jaw tight as he watched the far too still communication from Cloud's device and tried to organize everything they knew so far on flickering projections darting and scrolling around him. He glanced up hopefully as the doors opened again, but it wasn't an Avenger leader-- "Cayde?" The last time Tony had checked, he had been securely in the med bay, and, "Where's...?" Glancing instinctively to his screens first to check the sensors indicating where everyone was, updating his own calculations around them-- he didn't have to do that anymore, the systems were back online and stable and Tony could keep checking these readings as he jogged away from the console to meet the pair. He stopped short, hands up like he didn't know what to do with them first, gaze darting between them and obviously mapping everything from Jon's pallor to Cayde's newest scorch marks to end up directing at both of them, "What happened to him?," in equal exasperation with the other.
At least Jon doesn't have to argue with Cayde about staying in the medbay to rest. Being forced to do so only would have resulted in an even more restless Archivist and he would have wandered off first chance he saw. Which is now something Cayde successfully managed to prevent.
Upon entering the shuttle bay, Jon's attention is initially drawn towards their own ships - One of which is already missing and it appears a second is getting ready to take off as well? Are they evacuating?
"...what-" He starts muttering, but is interrupted by Tony's appearance, the familiar voice making his heart jump for a split second, only to freeze and nearly choke him upon noticing the seemingly scrutinizing look he finds himself targeted with and the man's tone that feels like an open accusation. It does make Jon glance over to Cayde, however, who appears to be the one Tony is concerned about. Which... Adds up. Especially now that Jon finally notices the fresh scorch marks himself and can't help but wince a little.
"Christ, I- I'm sorry." Is all he gets out as he ducks away to move on past Tony and leave the man to go fuss over the Exo while setting his own goal to find that pile of tools and scrap pieces and sort them back into Tony's belt where they belong. He can be useful- He will be useful!
Cayde offers in turn the most exaggerated shrug that he can while still keeping Jon supported. "I thought I told you!" Maybe not in great detail- a lot of that conversation was a little fuzzy now that he thinks about it, but to be fair, when you have things spitting at you and were under threat of getting melted upon contact, your attention was effectively split.
Absently he reaches out to catch a hold of Jon's collar when the man tries to slip away from them. "He's all better. We treated everyone that got Graq-spit on. This?" He gestures loosely to the darkened side of his armor. "-all cosmetic, nothing terrible. Whatever weapons the Graq were using were thankfully not set to maximum damage."
He waves a hand as though to get past that line of conversation and avoid further questioning. "But more importantly why is everything on the alert and where's my ship." Well not his ship but it's the one he rode in on and has all his stuff. Of course he's going to ask.
That wasn't nearly a satisfying answer, making Tony purse his lips in disappointment since it didn't look like Jon should have been on his feet at all (making Tony shift, unsure, as Jon tried to make his escape, arm out like he was ready to catch him even after Cayde snagged him back) and Tony didn't readily believe being on fire and shot left anyone with only cosmetic damage to worry about. He had seen Cayde blown up, that hadn't really left a mark. They didn't have the time to argue about it.
With another wary look Jon's way, not sure if he should be encouraging moving him around, he gestured for them to follow back to the security of the console and Tony's consolidated information. "There's two ships on our tail set to self-destruct, and we're in blast range," Tony explained the alert, finger circling to indicate the flashing lights. "I haven't, uh, fixed the shields yet," he added with less strict confidence, pausing without looking back at the other two before stepping aside for either of them to take his place at the centre of his array, leaning on the console instead. "We can't just move because those ships are full of the missing Agrii, and...I think Cloud might be over there. I can't locate him." Tony tipped his head, crossing his arms and looking distantly through the information he had been trying to piece together, before drawing himself out of that emotional spiral to glance over to the hole in the arrangement of their docked ships. "There's already a team over there scoping the place out, but until we can shut those ships down, we should be working on getting everyone clear of them. I haven't been able to access their systems from here."
Aside from a very little noise of protest, Jon remains silent. He may not agree with being held back, but there are more important matters at the moment. Matters to which he can hardly contribute anything aside from listening what happened.
The console is a strange place to be let to. Similar to the control panels on the bridge, but with all the alterations done to it even less conceivable for the Archivist, who primarily feels confused by some of the screens. Some of them he can figure out well enough. Hearing the name of one of his team members finally has him look up, though.
"Cloud. But he was- He was on the bridge. When we left..." He points out the obvious, but pulls out his phone with a quizzical look on his face to try and contact their missing friend. But what the open video channel shows is- It makes no sense. It's concerning, but it makes no sense.
"Oh hell," the Exo mutters once Tony informs them of the situation. "Those're the enemy ships, right? At that range I don't know how well shields would hold anyway." He winces at the news that their missing Agrii are aboard, but otherwise doesn't seem too surprised. They had to be somewhere, right?
"-wait, what?" he says, right as Jon also confirms his last thoughts. They'd left Cloud on the bridge last he'd checked. He looks over at the screen as Jon pulls his communicator out, frowning.
Looking apologetically at Jon for not having any more answers for him, Tony nodded slowly; that was the information they had, that was what Tony had been staring at, too. "There's almost three hundred of them," he could provide, which wasn't great news. They weren't exactly going to fit many of them at once into their little shuttles.
'We' was an interesting choice from Cayde after how well their last encounter with this opponent seemed to have gone, making Tony raise his eyebrows and glance pointedly between them, making an aborted gesture for Jon that he tangled into his tightly folded arms again. "There's more of those things--you're calling them Graq? Charming. They're all over those ships," he pointed out, "And it seems like they're willing to die for their cause, even after getting all of the Agrii in order. What that means, I don't know, they didn't expect anyone seeing what they were getting up to, maybe."
Jon's attention shifts from his phone up to Cayde. He nods at the Exo's words and looks back down at his screen before Tony's words pull his attention to the man and Jon just shakes his head.
"W-wait. If there are Graq over there, we... We need to help them, too." He takes one of his hands from his phone and raises it in case Tony wants to argue. "They don't know what's going on. They don't know why they are here. They... Tony, they don't even know what a space ship is. They are afraid and just- They just want to go home." Shouldn't this much be known by now?
"How many pilots we have? Someone call Dameron up, or that Mando guy- I think they were both up at the bridge. Have 'em pull us in closer. Other pilots can program the other ships to go back and forth right? We can do this."
Three hundred is a big number, he's not gonna lie. But if they thought too much about things, they'd never get anything done. If they could cut corners anywhere to make the process quicker, that was where to focus, so the rest of them could get to it.
Snap-pointing at Jon as he'd heard the explanation of the Graq already, he nods. "No point in complicating things. Someone get a message to their pals aboard there, then maybe we'll have an easier time of things." He waggles his hand this way and that. 'Easier' is a relative term.
Tony's gesture doesn't go unnoticed- how can it, really? The Exo raises his hands and then gives a nod in agreement. Much as Jon probably wants to help, Cayde doesn't want him risking himself over there, especially in his yet wobbly condition.
Jon's information felt more complicated than helpful, making him stare for a beat before he was asking, "Then how did they get here? Whose ships are those?" It would be much easier if anyone was where they were supposed to be, and it was becoming increasingly clear that none of the parties involved in this conflict had started it. The closest they might get to the truth in any of this mess was figuring out the origin on those ships about to blow to pieces into the unforgiving vacuum of space; they were the ones that harboured the storm-weapon that had chased the Agrii into this situation.
Tony took a deep breath and nodded to Cayde, several of his projection screens shunted aside in the gesture for another displaying 'shipwide broadcast clear zone A zone B zone C...' to take their place. "Attention passengers, this is not your Captain speaking," Tony said coolly, his voice echoing around them from the speakers throughout the shuttle bay, "I would like to remind you not to panic, and for all passengers with a piloting expertise to make their way quickly and calmly to the shuttle bay. Any pilots remaining on the bridge, if you don't mind, we'd actually like to get a little closer to the danger area. There will be time for questions if we all survive. Thank you, and enjoy your emergency." As the screen flickered and went dark again, Tony pointed to the ship that had engines lit and suggested, "Ren's our next departure. We'll have to take the message to the Graq ourselves," then was snapping a series of wires out of the gauntlet he brought that had been laying abandoned on the console since their last bout of repairs.
That the we and the us aren't meant to include him is a simple fact even Jon can't pretend to be oblivious about.
He knows he'd be of no use over there. Be in the way, slowing everyone down that can actually do something over there. He couldn't even communicate with the Graq. And as much as Jon hates to admit it, he feels weak. More than his upright state may let on. He barely can muster the energy to be upset about it.
"What... Can I do?" He asks instead, eyes having dropped back onto his phone. There has to be something he can do, right? Anything. Anything so he doesn't have to sit around fretting about the others being okay.
"Excellent," Cayde says once Tony's handled the announcement. He gives the man a thumbs up, nodding. They'd better get ready then, not that the Exo figures he'll need to pack much for this venture. He points at Jon's phone.
"We got live feed coming from Cloud, right? Can we narrow down where it's coming from?"
He's simultaneously surprised and relieved that Jon isn't arguing the decision they've kind of made for him. "We still got people here in various stages of question marks. You help make sure we're all on the same page, make some preparations because if we're getting three hundred Agrii plus more fuzzballs, it's going to get crowded in here real fast." He pauses. "Also if Gary's awake maybe filling 'em in won't hurt."
Relief wasn't exactly how Tony felt about Jon's uncharacteristic reticence, making him look from Jon to Cayde with a concerned arch of his brow for not being sternly bossed around, glad to at least follow Cayde's lead and trust that the Exo knew what Jon was capable of handling right now. It wasn't like Tony could bundle him into one of the ships to get him some rest, he was probably already in the most stable place in the shuttle bay. It was where Tony found himself dozing off, anyway. He finally broke and tugged at Jon's arm, not leaning his weight on Jon like he might have any other time when it didn't look like a stiff breeze might knock him over, but encouraging him closer. "Someone's gotta take over here," he confirmed, and while so far he had mostly felt manic and useless at this station, gathering information that he had no idea what to do with and watching Reeve do the job he should have been capable of, Cayde did make it sound like standing at the console was about to be the fulcrum of this whole operation. "You're the MC," he declared, and as though this job title didn't have enough ridiculous weight, slipped out of the vibrant robe that he had already anxiously worn the hems of raw to drape over Jon's shoulders.
With a flick of his wrist, Tony cleared the screens to lay them out more logically for Jon, actually tapping them to show how to navigate as he spread out the map with the sensor data of every being moving throughout the ship, the Agrii roster he had discovered to try to start accounting for, and a list of all of the ship's systems that seemed to be erratically sorting as Tony tried to make the best sense of them for someone else to use quickly. Finally, he pulled up a display of the Agrii ship's readings of the pair looming outside, and pushed their crew names over them into place--Raphael, Billy and Rayla already on one ship, Ren, Cayde and Tony on the other. Between them read 'Cloud?', a mystery for Jon to figure out for them.
"If this ship can't handle the capacity of its original crew I will be worried." Jon remarks almost offhandedly, but appears to accept the new task he seems to be getting handed. The robe... It may be a bit much. It already looks ridiculous on Tony, but Jon feels like the thing might outright swallow him. But it's warm. And it- Well. It comes with a certain comfort.
As for the screens... Those will take some getting used to. But he will try. He has taken over Gertrude's chaos of an archive and figured out a system for them to work with and he can figure this out. It's just data. Information. He can do information and administrative work and coordinating people - Without having to touch a weapon. Reaching for one of the screens, Jon tries giving it a cautious touch to see how it will respond. "I- I can move these how I need them to be, right...?" He then asks while scrolling through the information on that screen. It's the names of all the Agrii they hope to rescue.
It takes him some effort to tear himself away from the list, but he does so in order to make a quick, if weak grab for Tony's sleeve and look up at him sternly. "I can do this. But you will come back. You will come back in one piece. And you will bring the others."
He's no big planner because he feels a lot more can get done without having to work everything out. While he's not meaning to step on anyone's toes in regards to telling anyone what to do, he goes off what he knows. He knows what Tony's capable of, and he knows what Jon can do. He also knows the latter will not be able to sit still and just wait, no matter how he's feeling. It's why the Hunter Vanguard had offered to teach Jon how to use a gun when the man had decided to arm himself. Better to make sure they know how and know what they're getting into. But the last thing he wants is to make anyone feel Useless.
"It's not the ship itself that I'm worried about, it's the traffic jam that's going to be this docking bay depending on how many bodies get crammed into the ships," Cayde points out. He smiles crookedly as Tony dubs the Archivist in charge. He also resists the urge to try moving around the floating screens. Later. He can try playing with those later.
Snapping off a salute once he figures Jon's getting situated, the Exo turns to start towards the remaining ships, pausing as he hears the man speak up again. He glances over his shoulder to wait as Jon speaks to Tony.
That pulsing alarm was working its way into Tony's heart, hard to ignore and counting off seconds as they passed that Tony had to keep recalculating for, but he still lingered with an encouraging pat to Jon's shoulder, "That's it, you got this," and watched Cayde turn to go with a wretched concern that only twisted with surprise as Jon grabbed for him. It wasn't going to do either of them any good if Tony hung around here just to make sure Jon stayed upright if that just got them all blown up. He had to fix this first.
"Always do," he promised, crafting a smile from the reserves, and taking the hand Jon had stayed him with in both of his like they were sealing a big money deal. He probably didn't often leave his partners in the boardroom with a kiss to the knuckles, though. He swept down then to scoop his heavy boots up under his arm and jogged after Cayde, signalling impatiently as though the Exo was the one holding them up, come on, hurry up. "What are you waiting for? We're keeping our hosts waiting. Did you bring red or white?" he insisted as he swept by.
Jon could have reassured Cayde that London has subway stations smaller than this docking bay that handle much more than three hundred people at once. It'll be fine.
Once he has his hand and the console to himself as the others move to leave, Jon takes a moment to pull the oversized robe closer around him, watching the Exo and the human enter the ship that will take them to where they are needed before turning to the array of screens. Right. He will just- Reorganize these a little. And figure out what information exactly he can draw from them... At least he has something to do. Something to focus on.
