"Please let me try asking them questions first." Jon requests with a look back at Cayde and whoever else may decide to come along. "They are being fired at just as much as we are. I want to know if those ships outside belong to them or are a third party entirely."

Unless these intruders are with the Agrii and the entire Green Room has been set up in this ship to accommodate them in the first place. And the longer Jon thinks about it, the more possibilities he finds and the more reason to try and get more information.

Should the get attacked on sight... Well. Then at least they know that these beings are hostile.
deal_me_in: (Don't know don't care)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-08-12 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
There is some definite hesitation from the Exo when Jon turns and makes that request. He seems to cut himself off mid-sigh, instead nodding as he meets the man's gaze.

"All right. But you stay close in case they decide they're not chatty. We still don't know why they were left behind, if they have their own job and know the consequences already."

Because there are soldiers who will do that, although Cayde also knows that sometimes your supposed enemies can be reasoned with. Or at least spoken to. Sometimes it just all falls to shooting at each other either way.
beholding_archivist: (Trying hard to ignore this mess)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-08-12 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right." Seeing that Steve is also moving to follow along, Jon agrees to Cayde's condition with a short nod and proceeds to walk ahead into the hallway,a clenched fist at his side not really the best way to mask some of the tension he feels. "I just think that if we can talk to them, we should at least try to figure out what they know." It's not like they have met any Agrii - Or anyone, really, to offer any answers.

"I still suggest we hurry - And most importantly figure out a way to deal with those other ships." That last big hit... Jon doesn't like how that one felt.
deal_me_in: (I did a lot of shooting that day)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-08-12 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Valid points," Cayde concedes with a nod. "Also keep in mind there were supposedly over two hundred Agrii that were on board at some point and are now...not."

He hadn't liked how that last blow to the ship had gone either. With the systems going out as they did, he's more concerned that they'd lose power completely, and there's nothing worse than being a sitting duck. "Can't do anything if we can't trust the ship to do what we want it to. Best we trust our tech guys. Meanwhile, we do what we can here. You're right though- let's get moving."

And with that he'll pick up the pace.
beholding_archivist: (Don't make me force you.)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-08-12 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a small, one-handed gesture from the Archivist as he walks along that is at least in some way related to a shrug.

"I want to trust that they figure it out and take care of the matter. But I know I can't help with that. I can help figuring out this. And maybe we won't even have to fight them. If it can't be helped..." His words trail off, but Jon's expression grows darker. "...then I still want to know what they know. Even if I have to rip it out of their minds."
deal_me_in: (That moment when you think...)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-08-12 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey, it's Tony and Reeve over there. They've got this." Cayde grins confidently, giving Jon a nudge in the arm with a gloved knuckle.

"I'll be honest, but I ain't getting my hopes up. These guys already got off on the wrong foot with the Agrii, no matter who might've made the bad impression first." He raises his gun in emphasis. "So this is self-defense. Although I am curious as to what all they're doing here and what they know."

Jon's tone and the look on his face make the Exo go silent for a moment. "...wow. Yeah, that's uh... Okay then."

beholding_archivist: (Could you burn that outside please?)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-08-13 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Tony and Reeve... Got this, huh? It's Jon's turn to fall silent at that turn, lips pressed into a thin line and pointedly glancing away while the thumb of his empty hand moves along the edge of Tony's tool belt absentmindedly. Sure... They- Got this. In all likelihood they at least got something.

"...right." Is the comment Jon settles with, his tone underlining the single word with a regressing sigh. "They're quite the pair, aren't they..." And that bit is mainly muttered to himself. And while he may be right, Jon knows this isn't the time or place where he can let himself dwell on those facts. The list of things Reeve has to offer Tony that Jon simply can't is a long one, and he may well just try and accept that. Maybe telling Tony that he wants to talk to him has already been a mistake...

He shakes his head abruptly and clenches his hand around his weapon to keep himself in the present. They are here to confront whoever is occupying this Green Room. That's where his mind is needed. Jon raises his empty hand away from the borrowed belt and points ahead where the corridor splits. "We- We'll take a detour over there. It'll take us around two of the force fields."
deal_me_in: (We were in a meeting about something)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-08-13 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
"...was it something I said?"

The question's more or less rhetorical for how much Cayde expects an explanation, and he's not really pushing for one as he pauses in his steps, Jon easily moving ahead of him a few paces before the Exo starts up again to catch up.

Amid the flickering lights, he stares down the two corridors, nodding. "Provided they don't just crop up anywhere. I'd assume they're designed to lock things down by rooms and sections." But with the Agrii, who really knows? Maybe they're super paranoid and have things built into each hallway too.

He takes a step in the direction Jon's pointed out, stopping abruptly almost immediately after. His brow furrows, and he looks down at his free hand as though expecting to find some sort of answer there. After a moment, he shakes his head, twirls his gun and continues onward.
beholding_archivist: (Could you just not?)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-08-13 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
Jon just casts Cayde a very brief look as the Exo halts for a moment, leaving the Archivist to move ahead and drop his head while shaking it. No, it's nothing. Just his own flawed decisions catching up on him again. He knows what he'll return to and... It's closure he wants. Closure. No more hopes or imagined promises or unrequited yearning or one-sided emotions... Closure. That's all he needs. All he wants... Right?

Right...?

...right...?

He stops in front of a corridor leading off to their right side to take a deep breath, looking down the long hallway and it's fickle light. One of the force fields can be seen down the line, flickering and sparking wildly, sending electricity along the walls, the floor, the ceiling.

"...Christ." is what the Archivist mutters in response, then moves on down the path he has planned for them to take. He doesn't turn to look at Cayde as he replies at last, hardly taking notice of the Exo's odd behavior. "They have their system. It may not make sense to us, but it's there. The fields are placed in strategic places, often blocking the main access to an area. Figuring out the almost hidden bypasses was... Let's say I had a lot of time while we were on the bridge."
deal_me_in: (Don't know don't care)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-08-13 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
There's been bits and pieces enough that Cayde's pieced a vague picture of what's going on. The main parts of the puzzle are probably the most delicate, and not something he feels he wants to traverse, not that it seems those directly involved want to revisit. He just hopes they can all keep their head in the game or come to some important decision or another before things get worse regarding their current situation.

Blue optics narrow as he catches sight of the crackling force field. "Oh that looks fun." He doesn't volunteer anything of his earlier pause, still unsure himself about the feeling that had passed, and not wanting to cause unnecessary concern when they already had a stacked list.

He slips out one of his throwing knives, studying the force field's erratic state before giving it a toss through the passage.
beholding_archivist: (Why is this happening?)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-08-13 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It's certainly true that Jon's head should remain with the issue at hand, and he knows that. And yet thanks to Cayde's helpful reminder, his thoughts just keep spiraling back where Jon really has no use for them.

Seeing the knife fly serves for a brief distraction and Jon visibly winces when the blades collides with the energy shield, the contact resulting in a large surge of energy lightening up the entire corridor and crackling along the walls and ceiling viciously. Jon casts Cayde a wide-eyed look paired with an indicating gesture towards the little light show that lasts a bit longer than necessary before the knife finally drops to the ground, smoke rising up from it.

"...please don't walk into one of those?" Just a little request.
deal_me_in: (Pkeew!!)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-08-13 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not like Cayde was doing it on purpose. Facts and circumstances just made it difficult not to bring up certain parties, and while they may all be currently in a Mood towards each other, the Exo's just trying to keep things moving in regards to keeping them all alive.

His own eyes widen as he watches the resulting light show. He winces when the knife drops.

"Why do you think I threw a knife?" he says, his smile crooked and only slightly forced. "Soooo... we gonna have to do a Russian Roulette thing or is there another way around?"

Even as he asks, his eyes are scanning the ceiling and walls for vents or panels he can pop open.
beholding_archivist: (u sure.)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-08-13 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Jon gives a short shake of his head. "That's not the path I am intending to take us along, don't worry. It's a little further down this hallway. I just... I just wanted to see one of them." A force field isn't exactly something he has ever encountered in London, mind you.

Another short gesture from the Archivist asks the others to keep following as he turns to walk further down the corridor. "It's not a long walk once we got around them."

And hopefully once they reach the Green Room, Jon has his head fully for himself again.
deal_me_in: (That moment when you think...)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-08-13 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Fair enough. Cayde couldn't say he hadn't been a little curious himself, although he wonders if the extra crispy part is due to the strange power surge that hit the ship.

"All right," he says, eyeing the smoking knife for a moment, undoubtedly considering how close he could possibly get to retrieve it without attracting electric arcs.

He manages to pull himself away from the idea and the passageway as Jon has already continued on again, resuming his own position near the Archivist with a few quick steps.
beholding_archivist: (u sure.)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-08-13 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
True to his word, Jon takes them out of the main corridor and through a few connected rooms which Jon would love to investigate, had they the time to do so despite how unremarkable they appear at first glance. From those rooms they cross a smaller corridor into further rooms and this repeats a few times, with their little group being able to easily spot further force fields at varying levels of functionality. Some run smoothly, others are as erratic as the one Cayde has flung his knife at.

When they finally reach the corridor leading directly to the Green Room, the force field keeping their invaders trapped can be seen right away, flickering on and off irregularly, yet not sparking as viciously as others they have passed. Right. If no one is supposed to get out, no one is supposed to just get in easily either, right?

Now this is where they could have used their communicators in a functional state - And maybe the ship not getting attacked. Though as it is, they are on their own. Jon looks around the sides of the large door, hoping to maybe spot a control element somewhere. But with his level of technical knowledge? That can be literally everything. So his attention quickly shifts to Cayde, the question clear on his face.

"So... We try just slipping through while it's off? Or do you think we can deactivate it somehow?"
deal_me_in: (I got this!)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-08-13 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Had they the time to spare, Cayde would have loved to go snooping around. The possibility that anything he'd find would be utterly useless without downloaded instructions, along with the prospect of a fight in the very near future has kept him focused. The unstable force fields they pass here and there are noted, studied as they go on.

"With the systems shorting out like they've been? I don't think we can do anything on our end without upping the chances of getting even more fried," the Exo says as he eyes the Green Room beyond. He shifts his attention to the door and its flickering field, looking for patterns tbat probably don't exist.

"...how are you at gambling?" he asks, still watching the door, smirking as he pulls Jon over with an arm about his shoulders. There is no doubt what he intends to do. The question is whether Jon's up for that risk or not. He has a few seconds before Cayde is going to otherwise run right for the opening.
beholding_archivist: (Mighty Frown)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-08-14 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Never tried." Jon answers truthfully while doing the same the Exo does: Observing the energy barrier in their way in hopes of finding himself able to see through a pattern that isn't there. "What about you?" He can guess what Cayde has in mind and, truth be told, isn't entirely fond of the idea. And yet he hasn't a better one to offer up instead.

Will they end up like Cayde's knife? Charred and smoking on the floor?
deal_me_in: (Pkeew!!)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-08-14 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Well there's a first time for everything," Cayde says, all too cheerfully. "Me? Oh, pff. It's gambling. I like high risk, high reward."

That...doesn't necessarily answer Jon's question, but if there's any thing Cayde's convinced, it's that if you let yourself hesitate, then you'll definitely fail because you won't be doing anything at all.

"Ready set-"

He makes the move, the moment he thinks he sees the flicker of the force field that he hopes he's identified as just before it weakens, and really hopes it's not the opposite, because otherwise it is going to hurt. A lot.
beholding_archivist: (Let go.)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-08-14 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Here Jon sure could argue whether or not the potential reward for this risk can be considered high or not. But they have come for potential information, and the lure of it is, unfortunately, very real as far as Jon is concerned. So rather than protesting against Cayde's choice, the Archivist makes sure to have a good hold on the Exo - And close his eyes that very moment he notices Cayde pushing forward.

Jon manages not to scream. Which is mostly the case because he keeps his jaw clenched shut tightly even as it seems for a moment that they are about to rush straight into the force field in front of them.

But then the shield flickers and for a very short moment is gone, permitting them to slip past.
deal_me_in: (That's good right?)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-08-14 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
It's probably not the first time he's leapt headlong towards a force field. It's probably not even the first time he's done it on purpose. And thankfully it's one of those times that he won't have to regret his life choices as they reach the point of no return and...pass right through to land within the Green Room.

"Woo! Made it," Cayde says, grinning as he pats Jon reassuringly on the back, maybe also reassuring himself in the process. Of course they've officially entered enemy territory. His gun's up but not aimed, however at the ready. Has their entrance been noticed? Or are those big lugs too busy doing...whatever it is they're doing?
beholding_archivist: (I see you!)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-08-14 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
For Jon it's certainly the first time to leap into a force field, but it's not his first time making a reckless decision like this for the sake of acquiring knowledge.

At least this time he doesn't only have himself to blame if anything goes wrong. And yet... Jon likely will blame only himself if anything goes wrong. So far at least things go... Well? Maybe once his heart rate settles again Jon feels convinced of that, even.

"...aight." He says with an exhale, glancing over to Cayde raising his weapon. Pulling his own out of one of the tool belt's large pockets, Jon rather clutches it before taking a step into the quite large - and quite green - room, which rather feels like stepping into a forest than still being within a space ship. Looking around for a sign of their intruders, Jon does the one reasonable thing: He calls out.

"H-Hello?"
deal_me_in: (Don't know don't care)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-08-14 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
This isn't at all how Cayde's used to doing things, and mindful as he is about the fact that his present company's unused to such operations, he still has to give Jon an almost exasperated look as the man calls out, his slight gesture accompanied by a quiet but emphatic, "Really?"

The rustle of something stepping through the greenery and the subtle crunch of footsteps has him spin around to face that direction. He can't help but bring his gun around, it's a reaction that's been drilled into him. But as the first few of their invaders apparent come into view, the Exo's reaction is less than diplomatic.

"...yuck."
beholding_archivist: (Why is this happening?)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-08-14 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Jon's reaction isn't too dissimilar to Cayde's in that he, too, spins around in surprise and raises his gun, the sight of the two weapons making their curious invaders stop in their tracks and their remarkably unintelligent eyes just stare at the perceived threat.

Three of them react by spitting in the direction of Cayde and Jon, with Jon finding himself just barely able to stumble out of the way from one of those sticky shots and quickly raise his arm to block another from hitting him straight in the face. The impact happens with a gooey splashing noise that causes Jon to wince, especially as some of it still sprinkles part of his face.

"S-Stop! Please! We just- We want to TALK!" He shouts quickly, panic wrapping his words into a thick layer of compulsion that causes a faint crackle to run through nearby electronics, including the nearby force field, which stutters and briefly shuts off entirely. He also tries to cast a quick, imploring look over to Cayde, hoping the Exo doesn't open fire himself as well.
deal_me_in: (I did a lot of shooting that day)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-08-14 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Cayde was ready for some sort of attack, so when the spit flies, he moves nimbly to evade. "Gross!!" It makes it a little difficult to keep an eye on Jon when he's going in the opposite direction, but for a moment it looks like the guy's managing well enough.

...a brief moment, anyway.

The Exo's eyes widen as Jon gets splashed, and he seems to vanish briefly in a brief sparkle of light between another spatter of spit, appearing at Jon's side. He pulls the Archivist behind him, gun raising to take aim. The crackling that happens in the wake of Jon's words are what initially keep him from firing right off the back, and he catches the look from the man, squinting, but waiting, hoping he's not making a mistake in giving these things a second chance.
beholding_archivist: (Watcher's Crown)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-08-14 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Being pulled away from where he stands is met with a short noise of surprise from the Archivist, but he is glad that Cayde doesn't shoot right back. Especially since the invaders have indeed stopped moving or attacking them further. The looks on their faces make it obvious that they don't understand what's going on, but equally aren't upset by that lack of knowledge.

Their pause allows Jon a moment to look at his arm, where the substance they have been spitting at them has eaten through the fabric of his shirt's sleeve and has reached his arm, where it just... Sits? Seemingly evaporating already. It doesn't really hurt. At best it itches a little and feels gross. Maybe human skin can't be harmed by it? He casts Cayde a short, questioning look, then shrugs, not making an active move to wipe the stuff off his arm or his face, where only a couple of gray patches scattered between his already present scars appear to be left from the hit. The frame of his glasses sizzles slightly at two points where it has come in contact with the spit, however.

"M-maybe it doesn't hurt humans?" He voices his thoughts and moves to look around Cayde and at their opponents, who still just stare at them. "I- I will have to keep them in my... I need to be able to see them. If they don't understand what I'm saying verbally, I will have to--" Jon tries to offer as explanation and lets his eyes move from one invader to the other, gesturing vaguely before pointing at one of the larger members of the group.

"Tell me." He starts, this time actively focusing on making the unfamiliar being talk - Or at least willing to communicate. The crackling settles into a low, steady buzzing noise emitting from wires and electronic parts built into the ship around them. "Who are you? And why are you here?"
