The Beach, The Birbs, and the Berries | OTA

The Beach

Sephiroth is not discovered by the Agrii, having curled up to sleep in a strange location, burrowed in wings. But he does wake up hearing all the activity from the beach and goes to investigate. He watches for a while from a distance, just to see what’s happening and if everything seems alright.

If you notice him, will you try to get him to join in the activities? Or will you decide it’s just as well to keep his dignity intact and not try to get him to wear any of the wacky swimwear? (Does he ever put on swimwear in general?)

The Birbs

Of course something eventually goes wrong. Sephiroth sees the birbs starting to grab things, trying to grab people, and generally being a nuisance. While it’s not quite the disaster he expected, he’s not surprised there’s a disaster.

He flies over by the nearest person. “This could go on for hours. We should leave.”

The Berries

Sephiroth studies his basket with thoughtfulness. It’s very nicely made. But he’s wary of the berries after hearing Radley’s tales of the weird effects other Agrii foods have caused. He decides to go out and see if anyone else was less wary and what resulted.

And of course there are some. He just has to stop and stare for a moment as a glowing Knuckles throws his arms wide and dances through Temba singing about Hollywood paved with streets of gold and kitties never growing old. Probably a song he heard on Earth with Chris.

One wing flicks. Yes, he is not going to eat any of the berries.

He will probably encounter others who have, though. Feel free to break Sephiroth’s brain with your weirdness!

The Beach

Keith did spot Sephiroth lurking at the edge of the path. It was hard to escape his notice when he was pretty often aware of what was going on around him. Kosmo also noticed and ran off to meet up with the winged man. Keith let the wolf go, confident that the interaction wouldn't be negative.

He waved once Sephiroth looked in his direction. He wasn't wearing one of the crazy swimsuits, but had his own already from when they'd been on that vacation planet. It was much more reserved in pattern than what the Agrii were offering with a simple red color block design that included a white pinstripe horizontally across the thigh.

Apparently, having Kosmo bark menacingly at the door when the Agrii knocked that morning had been enough to convince them that Keith should be allowed to wear his own beach gear if he agreed to go along.

Re: The Beach

Sephiroth looked down at Kosmo and greeted him, then looked up and nodded to Keith. He started over, eyeing Keith's normal swimwear as opposed to what it seemed most of the others were wearing.

"The Agrii are hosting a party, I see," he deadpanned. Because what other explanation can there be for what he's seeing?

"Yeah," Keith glanced around the area as Sephiroth came closer. "They seem to like to do that." It felt like there was a lot of partying. Mandatory fun. Kosmo had come back to Keith with Sephiroth and flopped down in the sand, rolling around. Keith groaned a bit.

"You're gonna get sand everywhere when we get back to the house..." Even a giant, battle-trained space wolf had dog moments.

Mandatory fun was definitely not something Sephiroth was thrilled with, although he was much more laidback than his counterpart.

"At least you've managed to keep your dignity better than some of the others," he remarked.

He looked amused at Kosmo. "He may be having more fun than any other non-Agrii here."

[tempredmental]

"He really has the best life," Keith said. "He has me to feed him and take care of him. He doesn't have to work for anything." He shrugged. "I wish I had his life sometimes."

Keith did smirk a little.

"Well, it's a good thing I spent time on a beach planet not that long ago," he said. "I didn't get my swim trunks from home or the Fleet, but I got these on one of our off-planet missions."

"Heh. Animals are quite content with simple needs being met," Sephiroth remarked.

"That must have been before I arrived," Sephiroth said. "The entire planet was beach and ocean?"

[tempredmental]

Keith nodded. Simple indeed. It helped that didn't have much to worry about, either.

"Yeah... kinda?" He shrugged, trying to think about how to describe Risa. "The areas where people spent most of their time were kind of like tropical resorts. Beaches, shopping, spas... it was something of a vacation planet." He frowned a bit. "We woke up there after the first storm here on this planet." They'd been lucky for that, too. They got a replicator out of it, and anyone who'd gotten hurt during that first storm had been healed by the Federation's medical technology. "We were able to rest up and recover."

"... The storm somehow took you there? Or the Agrii did?" He was picturing the former and wondering what kind of storm that had been to have such powers of teleportation.

[tempredmental]

"Oh, the Agrii..." Keith said. "We got a message from them shortly after we woke up stating that they sent us there to recover from our first storm experience."

"Ah, I see. Did they use a ship, or was their machine that brought people here in working order back then?"

[tempredmental]

"No one was really sure at the time," Keith said. "It might have been the machine because we all kind of just woke up there." He frowned a bit. "It was before they had attempted to send us home... when the machine had been taken away right in front of us. After that, they always used the ships to get us places."

"Yes, after it was gone they wouldn't have had much choice on how to transport you," he deadpanned. He wondered if things would ever be properly sorted out with the machine and allow them to go home. Or if their powers would be unblocked, at least. He was sure he could get everyone home if he could only access his full capabilities.

[tempredmental]

"Yeah... exactly." Keith took a breath, watching the crowd still partying a bit off to the side of where they stood. Keith had stayed close enough to make the Agrii happy that he was "at" the party, but far enough that he still felt comfortably separate from the crowd.

Sephiroth watched them as well, wondering if anyone was enjoying this or if they were pretending for the Agriis' sakes.

"How have things been going at the beach party?"

[tempredmental]

Keith shrugged.

"It's a beach party," he said. Mostly, he hadn't seen any huge issues. There were the occasional rowdy guests, sure, but that was to be expected at a large gathering. "It's been fine so far. We'll see how long it lasts." There was always a chance, after all.

"I have never attended a beach party," Sephiroth remarked. He didn't really know how they were supposed to go.

[tempredmental]

"They were never really my thing," Keith admitted. "And we didn't have an ocean near where I lived. I was pretty far inland." He glanced at the crowd again. "But the Garrison had some barbecues or something at a nearby lake. There usually was things like food and games... kind of like this. Just... less Agrii and more human.

"There wasn't a dress requirement, either."

Sephiroth smirked a bit at that. "Barbecues I am familiar with. Zack used to invite me to his family's barbecues. And my parents held them sometimes."

[tempredmental]

"Oh, yeah... then, from what I've seen, a beach party is kinda like that... a barbecue and a party... just at the beach." Simple enough.

"And with water. And the removal of most of one's clothes." Complete deadpan. Sephiroth, curiously enough, seems to prefer to mostly cover up except for showing his chest.

[tempredmental]

"Well, yeah." Keith chuckled a bit. "It's not a beach without water, so a beach party is going to be near water just because it's at a beach. Lack of clothing is usually optional, but the Agrii were pretty insistent on the swimwear dress code."

[3wingedangel]

"Heh. I assume because they believe that's how a beach party always is." He definitely refused to wear any of the strange swimsuits, and he didn't have any normal ones.

[tempredmental]

"Probably." Keith nodded in agreement. "They do seem to base their assumptions on what they've seen of us on video media."

[3wingedangel]

"I wonder what it is that causes them to think we would like things such as body-altering chocolates," he deadpanned, not knowing they were about to get more weird food in a couple of days.

[tempredmental]

"I have no idea," Keith said. "It does make me wonder if they're even fully aware of the effects those things have on us." Though, the Drift Fleet augments kind of did weird things like that on occasion. Keith hadn't had something like that happen from the augment since they'd gotten to this place, so he wasn't sure if that was even possible anymore. He did still have it. Anyone from the Fleet still had them. But maybe they were disabled? He wasn't sure.
