"This is ridiculous! No holidays should be interrupting me from my work," Tae grumbles as an Agrii shoves small boxes of gifts into her hands. A stack of them. One like a clothing box, one a bit bigger, and one rather small. And it's driving her up the wall."2. Problematic Patient | Closed to any He Row injured in any manner
"Gift," the Agrii says.
"I have patients I should be-"
"Gifts," the Agrii repeats.
Clearly there is no argument to be made to such underlings like this. She sighs and shakes her head.
"Fine, but then can I-"
"Sky sparkle," the Agrii insisted.
Yep. Okay. Whatever. Tae sighs and moves over to join someone at a blanket on the not-quite-cold snow.
"Can you believe this? I have important work to be doing!"
There's so much to do, and no clue how much time. That much is clear from the haggard look on the Doctor's face. Because of course she feels exasperated. In addition to trying to introduce the Agrii to the concept of 'regular medical check-ups', she had the other class of patients she had to deal with.3. No Weapons In Medical!
"I really wish they hadn't done this mess when I have so many people to look over already."
Because of course she did. People getting hurt just before they got up here was just something she should have expected. In fact, in this particular moment she's eyeing one of them. And frowning. Arms all crossed over her chest as she tries to stay stern even if she might prefer to be gentle with some of the patients she sees a lot.
"So, pain levels," she says at last. "Let me know what we're working with here."
"No, absolutely not!"
Anyone entering the Medical Bay at the exact right moment was going to be treated to the sound of Tae's voice cracking whip sharp through the air. Anger, scorn, and no small measure of annoyance, dominated her voice. Which at first is probably all anyone will get of her as they enter, given the fact that an Agrii is standing just inside the door, maybe by only a pace or two, and seems frozen by that tone.
An Agrii with an orange token wrapped around their upper left arm. Mu Ly's faction. An Agrii with a long, sharp looking meat fork tucked into their belt as their nod toward being armed.
Which was, of course, what was setting Dr. Takemi off.
"I don't care who you align yourself with, I don't care what discussions are being had, I don't care who you are trying to emulate. There are no weapons in the Medical Bay!"
The Agrii must try to open their mouth because Tae's just barreling on immediately.
"I am also not particularly interested in hearing you explain what your behaviors have been like in the past. Hospitals and medical spaces are for healing, not harming. You are not welcome in here armed. Leave the weapon outside or just leave. Because I've got enough injuries here amid the physical exams that look like they come from deliberate cuts and jabs, and I'm not tolerating more wounds in here!"
Which of course finally leads to the Agrii backing up toward the door. Apparently the small woman was scaring them off.

But, that didn't keep him from having been burned and bruised, and he'd been the one to get caught directly in the initial partial roof collapse, so there was that to make up for the lack of smoke.
He'd been lucky with that, too, though... only ending up with a mid-level sprain in his left knee and no broken bones. Again, Altean armor was pretty durable. And his burns were minor, as he hadn't been in direct contact with any flames on his skin. They were mostly just from ambient heat and proximity to the flames for a prolonged period of time.
As for his current pain levels? He had a really high tolerance. He shrugged.
"I'm sore, yeah," he said. "And my leg's really stiff." The swelling had come down a bit in his knee over the past few days, but it wasn't completely gone. He had also been unable to put any weight on it when he'd first been hurt.
no subject
And that was a scary thing to think about. She would have to talk to Wesker and see if he could recharge those defensive devices he had given her.
"Let's see what we can do about that leg. I think we should take full advantage of the imagining tools here. If you would consent to that. They take far more detailed data than that allowed to me on the planet's surface."
Which some might see as an invasion of privacy."
no subject
"Yeah." He chewed on his lip. The burns had been obvious. Some on his leg around where the beam had pinned him, and then some on his stomach and hands, which had only been covered by the undersuit of his armor and not by the armor itself. It was mostly radiant heat damage as the flames never penetrated the suit, so he'd been lucky on that.
But, using the imaging to assess the level of the sprain in his knee and making sure there weren't any minor fractures to worry about was probably a good idea. The trouble he'd been having with bearing weight and instability definitely pointed towards a grade 2, so it was a good idea to confirm that and check on the progression with healing. The initial exam post-incident had him using crutches to help support his weight and wearing a brace to help with the stability. At her question about consent, he nodded.
"Yeah, that's fine," he said. "After Drift Fleet, I don't really think I have any privacy left anyway." He snorted a small, humorless laugh. He'd spent years captive on some space reality show. He was used to the lack of privacy now.

Or she tries to.

That was a discussion for another time, though.
He gingerly shifted positions, wincing a bit as he positioned himself on the bed.
"It would be nice if we could get the better ones down on the planet, too, huh?" he said quietly. It would also be nice if the Agrii could send them back to Risa for a few days and he could get healed instantly again, but Keith wasn't hedging his bets on that. Though, even better, maybe get some of that Starfleet equipment that they used, but he supposed the replicator was the one thing they got from that trip.
no subject
It was probably a near thing. Who knows, maybe she'll get away with the theft this year.
no subject
"Stealing is probably better than killing," he said quietly.
no subject
"Oh, I find it is far, far better. I'm a doctor. Unless it's a parasite in your body, I'm inherently against death. Live my life to battle against it."
no subject
But that was war, and he wasn't a doctor. He was a warrior.
Keith nodded a bit, watching her set up the panel.
"Does this take long?" The scans from the cryopods that had been on the Castleship were pretty quick, but he knew some other kinds of tech were slower.

Including minimizing how fearful imaging processes could be for children or those with a less solid grip on short term memory.

All of Donnie's medical knowledge is from books and whatever he's scoured over the internet. Putting things into practice is different sometimes, experiencing them, even more so. Being a patient? Flat-out sucks.
He's already slipped out of his hoodie to make it easier for Tae. His arms and legs are bandaged here and there, snow gear making for poor protection from fire, even less when smeared with something alcoholic. His right shoulder had a nasty bruise from where his battle shell had been dented in so badly by falling debris, said piece of armor absent due to the damage, but his soft shell is at least unharmed.
"Depends," he says after a moment. "Ranges between four to six. Still dealing with the aftereffects of smoke inhalation."
no subject
But she was happy to at least be able to help him some. In this case she pulls out something she had gotten to working on the moment she could get away from the Agrii here.
"They have a few things here I wasn't able to walk away with last time. And one of them is this."
She pulls out a silver canister with a clear top that seems to be filled with a soft blue mist.
"I'll give you instructions for using this, which you'll want to do in a bathroom just before bed, so you can basically hotbox it. It will help with your recovery time on your lungs. There apparently was some on Agra-10 in the early days, but there are no more down there."
So she's definitely giving him a precious resource.
"Any signs of late developing damage to your shell?"
no subject
He perks at that, looking with eager curiosity at the canister. "Ooh, is that like a medical-grade space humidifier?"
Donnie shakes his head then. "Thankfully that's taken no damage. My jacket insulated the metal from overheating on my battle shell so I was saved any burns through that. But I still have to fix it- the shoulder clasp got busted when this happened," he says, pausing to cough a bit after a breath as he gestured towards his shoulder.
no subject
As for his question, she nods. Near enough. "I'd compare it more to an inhaler, but given the way their species works, it is structured differently, and thus we must prepare our own use of it separately. I'm saving one for all my smoke inhalation patients."
And she may bring an extra few back to the surface with her.
With the direction given she looks back over his shoulder and with exaggerated care runs her fingers gently over the soft shell.
"No flakes, bruises, or other damage. Good. I can do a lot for the rest of your body, but this part of your biology I'm not prepared for. I would have been poorly suited to handle this, and I don't even know if the Pup would know how to magic it better."
no subject
Donnie almost hugs onto the canister, tensing as Tae inspects his shell. He's still not used to it, even if he knows physical contact is kind of necessary for medical treatment.
"It'd be tricky, yeah. I have notes on soft shells I can send you if that would help. Ultimately I'd rather avoid any problems but...guess you can't be too careful." Especially around here.
no subject
But she wouldn't say no to stealing one more sample just for Donnie to work on, if his chemistry background was strong enough for that.
Once she's done with the shell inspection she goes to pull out a few rolls of fabric bandages from her bag.
"We're sadly running low on the spelled stuff Miss Lark made, so only traditional for this I'm sorry to say. I have to reserve those fore more life threatening wounds at this point. But the shell won't need it for now. I'll happily take the notes in the mean time, in case I need to treat you in an emergency again. If you can find a way to encrypt the file, I'd appreciate it as well."
no subject
"I should be fine, barring any extreme incidents," Donnie assures, moving to pull his hoodie back on, wincing as he has to maneuver his banged up shoulder. "But you should totally keep those for emergencies." He makes a mental note to hit the forge as soon as he's able to. One less thing to worry about will mean less for anyone else to worry about when it comes to his potentially getting injured. But...not like it's much different from humans, right? They don't come with built in armor.
"..." the thought makes him pauses as he hugs his arms around himself. Funny how he's never really thought about things that way before.
"I can write them down. But for sure I can encrypt a file. Actually, if it'd help, I can probably put together a tablet strictly for medical use and lock it to you and whoever you think should have that data."
no subject
She wasn't going to comment on much more beyond that until the young turtle was wrapping his arms around himself. Maybe he wasn't a mammal, but he still had the same self comforting gestures.
"I've had a lot more cause recently to think of file security. I already had work done on that, but with these attacks, it seems more vital than ever. We've had five near deaths. I can't play lightly with medical informatoin."
no subject
"...yeah, that's a good point." His expression darkens, because he's sure he knows who the ones are who are at fault but everyone keeps demanding proof, and in the meantime more people just get hurt for it.
Donnie taps at his computer. "I'll put it on the list. But so long as you're careful with your property and don't let movie-obsessed weirdos into your place, it shouldn't be a common problem. But I still understand the concern."

...He hasn't even opened them yet. He's just admiring the wrapped boxes. His eyes are still sparkling when Tae joins him, and he holds them up to show her how many he's got.
"You got presents, too? Isn't it great? I never thought that they would think of me. Lookit how pretty the wrapping is!"
Yea, he totally didn't hear that comment about how she still has work to be doing. He's just happy to have presents.
no subject
"Yes. This is an annual event that is part of the culture of our hosts. It is called 'New Tick'. Their celebration of the changing of the year. I have experienced this a few times now, though this is only our second time celebrating directly with them. And the first time here on their ship. I think I prefer it to the ice planet from last year."
Though she does chuckle a little behind her hand over how pleased he is.
"Hopefully they offered you something useful."
no subject
He cuts himself off.
Right, he's not home anymore. No Chihiro, no special box to keep his treasures in, and the special wrapping from Chiyo is gone.
He frowns a bit, going quiet. How strange it is to be alone without his mementos.
"Right. Sorry." Though his expression doesn't change.
no subject
"Fabric you say? Do you have a particular interest in fabric?"
Because if so, she had an idea of where he might go once they get back to the planet.
Then the cuts off. Goes silent. Sad. Contemplative. If she were a gentler person, she might have reached out to touch him, comfort him. As it was she just sighs. Another sad case of someone being torn away from those they loved.
"Everyone has those moments. No apologies are needed for them. Feel what you're going to feel."
no subject
Madoka gives a faint smile.
"Thanks. That's nice of you. I'll be okay, though." It's just stuff he has to adjust to. Maybe he'll have to do actual work in self-maintenance for a change.
"So, what did you get?" He says, much more interested in her receivings than his own. He just wants to savour the wrapping paper a little longer.
no subject
"Well then, I'm sure you'll get plenty of work here. The last woman that did most of the clothes making left. You may also wish to seek out a woman named Jan. She does that work too. And sweets would be welcomed."
So yes, she hopes that the young man gets what he wants for helping things out while he's here. As for Tae... well, she opens the first box and...
"Ah. A leather bag," she notes, and indeed, it's a very large one. Monogramed even. "In the style of which doctors used for house calls. A nice joke I suppose. I need far more than fits in here when I get called out."
