WHO: Donnie and you!?!

i. Flip It
A turtle's work is never done, but Donnie'd like to think he's been making progress. There's been some noise over in the area of the factories in the southern area of the city, one of which Donnie has been retrofitting to suit his and Sonic's (oh, who're we kidding, mostly his) needs. Giant rocket-powered hammers smashing out walls definitely makes noise, but he's gotten one portion opened up after figuring which side is exposed to the most sun during the long days. He's added in some extra support beams and cleaned up the edges just enough to make it look tastefully broken. Oh the things he does to make his own greenhouse, but once this part is done, the rest is considerably easy.

Today he's adding glass panes, big ones he's salvaged from other buildings. It's been some work but he's extra careful as he shoulders one into position. He's removed his battle shell for this delicate operation, not wanting to scratch it up with the metal. If he's not caught in the process, then he might be found tending to shelves just outside along another wall, filled with various potted plants (is that a blood vine...)

ii. Haul It
Wheels on uneven ground make for quite a racket, which Donnie is only too aware of as he rolls a table along the broken roads. He needs a replacement, seeing as how the Agrii kind of took his last one.

"Note to self, prioritize detachable rotors on battle shell with alternate surface attachment..." he grumbles as he tugs the thing, clattering along. Pushing it doesn't work quite so well for the way the wheels he'd slapped onto the thing just go every-which-way.

iii. Tech It
Whenever Donnie has Robotnik appointments in Sh'Ka, he always makes the most out of the trip since it takes so long to get to and from. After delivering his latest batch of experimental rechargeable batteries and any work he's assisting with at the tinkerer-doctor's place, the turtle teen's about the empty city.

Usually he's wherever there's power running somewhere, because that means there's some kind of equipment or machinery running. In this instance he's at the security station. The videos that play on the screens in there hadn't made much sense to him, quickly dismissed as some kind of weird nature program that Donnie had immediately lost interest in after thirty seconds. He's not here to watch stuff anyway! He's here to pillage!!! ...or at least figure out what's going on with the power here...

"Thankfully not a complete hole! Just like...the tiling. I guess they don't have fine control on transferring things in and out, hence why you got beaned by a Chaos Emerald."

Donnie stops to nudge away a large chunk of rock from their path. "Just a clock and a little terrarium. There's a lot of stuff they don't know, and they only seem to observe us. When I talked to them, I just figured it would be easier for them to experience it for themselves so they'd have a better idea of what I was describing to them."

"Oooh okay, so probably not something I could bust my leg up again on."

That would be the most annoying thing ever, he's finally recovered from the last time he mangled his leg up. Though he does walk face first into the back of the table when Donnie stops, buuut he's just gonna play it cool and pretend that didn't happen.

"Anyway, that's not a bad idea. I keep tryin' to remind myself that they just don't know things and they're not actually out to make our lives suck."

"Thankfully not, but if it were, I wouldn't have left it alone for so long."

Donnie catches a glimpse of Sonic kissing the table, half amused and half grimacing, but at least it looks like the hedgehog hadn't hurt himself.

"Yeah, it's hard. So easy to get frustrated with them- I know I was, just talking to them because it sounded like nothing I was saying was getting through, and we were talking in circles... But... They've been living on that ship for their entire lifetime, they've never been on any worlds for very long and just seem so convinced that this is where they need to eventually be, just because it's where their ancestors had lived before. But everything they've been learning now, they learn from watching us."

"Maybe we can teach 'em how to actually help instead of making things worse half the time."

Yeah he's still a little bitter about the volcano thing. Don't worry about it.

"That'll be some work. I got a headache just trying to explain how their actions potentially put us in more peril. Either I wasn't approaching it right or they are just very adamant about their methods." Donnie shrugs. "You're more than welcome to take a swing at it though, there's an option on the tablet that connects directly to them."

"I might just do that. If they want us to figure out how to fix their world for them, all we really need from them are supplies. No weird teleportation, no force fields, no herding us underground. Right?"

He doesn't think that sounds unreasonable at all. He's a creature that thrives on freedom, and he doesn't really feel free here with their lives constantly being spied on and messed with.

Donnie considers, nodding. "They might object and insist they were trying to keep us safe. They're just very...direct about it. Also, there's the language learning curve. Apparently it works the same way for them as it does between us in that we're hearing each other in our native languages- did you know that was a thing?"

He starts tugging the table down away from the main road as they get closer to the factories.

"The fancy lady doctor and I conducted an experiment- she was speaking in Japanese, but I only know so much and yet I still managed to understand her word for word. And apparently the Agrii are hearing us speak in ...whatever language they use, but I don't know why their conversation with us is disconnected- they've had to learn how to speak with our words, which is why everything's so broken up."

"Weird. I mean, I guess that explains why everything in the phone is labeled super weird. Well, hopefully 'back off' isn't too hard for them to understand. They're only slowing us down and it's really starting to grate on me."

If there's one thing Sonic hates, it's something slowing him down. Everywhere he turns here there are speedbumps, and they're shaped like the Agrii's stupid heads! The planet itself is also kind of a huge pain, volcanos can just appear out of nowhere and everything they've stumbled across that could possibly help in any way has a super convenient forcefield blocking anyone from interacting with it. Also the storms, but those don't seem to happen as often as Sonic assumed they would? Maybe one of these days he'll just pick a direction and run as far as he can for as long as he can. For science.

"Oh yeah, definitely. A lot of them, or at least the ones I spoke to, can only string sentences together by mashing words of singular syllable to create bigger ones, hence why it's strange. Some seem to have a better handle on the language to use multiple syllable, although even then, sparingly. Likely a younger generation, learning most of how to speak from us."

Donnie can understand Sonic's frustration there. There's so much that they're being held back by, and the Agrii could possibly provide but they just aren't because of how stuck they are in their method of thinking.

"Well, can't hurt to try. Maybe you'll have a better time of it. You also have the Communication data point, so...maybe you'll be able to actually converse in their language? Or understand them better?"

"That's a really good point, I should be able to just bypass the whole goofy language barrier directly and tell them to stop trying to 'help'. Not that they'll listen if they don't want to, but y'know."

At least he'll be able to say he tried?

"Keep in mind, they take things very literally sometimes. A lot of the time, really. And as much as I hate to admit it, sometimes their help...isn't all that bad," Donnie admits.

"...you know...with the vampire chick who attacked me? She disappeared right after she tried to sink her teeth in. And I guess Tony had an encounter with the other guy, the one who was threatening you? But then he said that one ended up in the fountain and he wasn't sure why. The Agrii must be looking out for us, even when it's us against each other."

Right, he'll have to dumb it down for them or something. Uuugh these problems would be so much easier to solve if he could just punch.

"Huh. I kind of have mixed feelings about that... I mean, I'm glad you didn't get hurt worse? That woulda majorly sucked. I'm just not about someone having this much control over my life, y'know?"

Sonic may be blue but his solutions go more along the lines of Donnie's red-flavored bro.

"-no, I get it. It's... not fun knowing you're being watched and someone is virtually putting bumpers on every pointy edge. They need to know limitations. But they also aren't much help when it might actually be appreciated and needed, like during the storms."

Donnie shakes his head. "Anyway, I'm not telling you to not talk to them and try to get the point across. And it's not like we haven't dealt with dangerous situations on our own before."

"Oh, I'm gonna talk to 'em. I'm gonna talk to 'em and I'm gonna tell 'em exactly how I feel about their crap. ...Nicely, though, because I'm not a big jerk."

Unless they really manage to piss him off? But even then he's not the type to lose his cool too easily.

The turtle chuckles a little at that. "Good luck... I'm being sincere there, sorry if I sounded sarcastic." That's his default tone, he can't help it.

"You're good, I'm probably gonna need all the luck I can get anyway."

He knows what he's up against, talking to the Agrii is like talking to a brick wall. Anywho, with that squared away, he peeks around the table to see just how long of a hike they have left.

"Man, I did not miss walking everywhere."

Donnie nods, and then grimaces at the reminder. At least now they can see their place!

"I know, right? I need to build something to hook up to larger things for easier transport. At least if I could make this thing fly, it could be pushed without ground resistance. These roads are the worst."

"Not kidding, I'm surprised I haven't been taken out by a pothole yet. After everything that's happened it would be pretty funny if that's what finally gets me."

He could accept death by pothole if only to spite Eggman. Totally worth it.

"I wish I knew what to do about the roads, though. I've never been much of a construction guy. Kinda the opposite, actually."

"I'm not much for it either, really. Heh, this place makes potholes back home look like mild fractures."

Donnie turns to look back the way they'd come as he continues tugging the table. "I think there's some kind of...planning office or something that Reeve set up? I know he was trying to do buildings, not sure if he's had anything in mind for the roads. Probably takes some specialized equipment."

"I think I met him once... Yeah, yeah, it was back when all the monsters showed up. It probably couldn't hurt to run it past him? And maybe we can convince the Agrii to send us a cement mixer or something."

Probably not, but it couldn't hurt to try, right?

"As worth a shot as anything, really. My tech-bō has a cement prep mode but attempting to use it for something like all this would definitely be ambitious." Not to mention there's probably a whole lot of crap mixed in with all the ground here.

"Is there anything that stick of yours can't do?"

Why would a butt kicking stick NEED A CEMENT MODE??? Donnie you maniac.

"Of course, there's only so much I can cram into the thing, but you never know when you need to repair some broken sidewalks or something, right?"

Okay so maybe that didn't work out so good last time on the account that some old guy and his dog got stuck in fresh cement but hey! How was Donnie supposed t know that someone'd be making use of it so quickly!

Clearly Donnie needs to put in a sign projector too, y'know to warn for all that wet cement.

"Heh. One of these days you'll have to show me all the tricks that thing can do."

Donnie grins. "I'd love to! Although I'd hate for someone to be like 'oh wait, we let him have that?' and then they break my baby." He squints skyward, meaningfully.

"-anyway, I'm sure we'll find opportunity to do so."
