A Royal Arrival

WHO: Princess Zelda, you, and Link is probably hovering somewhere close by
WHERE: Various.
WHAT: Zelda's exploring.
WHEN: Later part of July
WARNINGS: none at the moment. Will update if needed.

{ Don't break these pots | Agriculture Building }

Zelda can't remember a time where she was allowed to just sit and re-pot plants like this. There's a thin layer of dirt on her legs and hands but she couldn't feel more at ease as diligently works gathering samplings to try and grow on her own. It's nice knowing that she doesn't have to worry about being told off or that she's not trying hard enough. She has a freedom here that she didn't back home.

She feels a little guilty for thinking that but buries it pretty neatly as she buries the root of the plant she's currently potting. She can worry about her conflicting emotions after she's done here.

"There you are, little one." She says soothingly to the plant and sets it aside to pot another. It's a little odd to her that she suddenly has the knowledge to take care of these plants but she isn't complaining. She wipes her brow, smearing a bit of dirt on her forehead before delicately cutting a sampling from the next plant that has her interest.

{ Moving in | hotel }

Zelda wanted her own room at the hotel. Mostly due to the fact Link's room is... a bit full. She takes a room as close to his as she can manage and sets about putting the few pots she has up on the window sill and opens the window to let more light in.

After taking some time to wash up and once she's clean again she works on arranging her room the way she wants it. She frowns at the lay out of the room. It's not a large space but she's sure if she were to push the bed up against the wall it would at least look like there was more space.

She briefly considers getting Link to move it for her but shakes the idea out of her head. They're not in Hyrule at the moment and no one's going to tell her she can't do things for herself. Alright then, her mind made up, she makes an attempt at moving the bed on her own.

The frame is bolted down but that won't stop her from at least pulling the mattress off. Anyone crossing by might just hear her grunting and struggling to pull the mattress where she wants it to go.

{ Out Wandering }

Evening has set in and she's done all she can for her room at this point. However, she's not quite ready to call it a night as she wanders through Temba, her attention on the map as she studies it carefully. She's in a new place and getting lost wouldn't be ideal.

Besides, she should probably meet some more people and introduce herself since they'll all be working together to try and help the Agrii.

Oddly enough, Link didn’t actually stumble upon it; Dustin had simply had a project he needed help with, and had been insistent on Link promising not to tell.

But for now, Link nods. Makes a mental note to go find Dustin sometime soon.

Then he glanced around, at Zelda’s room. It’s a far cry from the one she had at the castle. Even if Link only remembers seeing it after it had been destroyed.

“Do you…like it?” He asks, soft and a bit hesitant.

Link nods. He can understand those mixed feelings. There's so much that they've both lost. And yet...at the same time, there's a lot they've gained. Freedoms that neither of them could have had, before the Calamity. At least has far as he understands it, from his memory.

But he'll do what he can, to make this place somewhere Zelda is happy to be. Even if it's not home.

"Things are different," he says quietly.

Then he falls silent. Except it's not quite like his usual silence. Zelda will know him well enough by now to tell that there's something else he has to say - some other words that he hasn't yet spoken, but wants to.

Another long pause, as Link gathers his thoughts. Pulls the words together, and finds a way to speak them.

"...My family," he says. "I don't remember them."

And Zelda, he hopes...he hopes she knows something about him. Anything. She mentioned his father being a knight once, so maybe...

"I...I had a sister?"

He tries to picture her. Tries to see if there's something in there, something that still remembers what she looked like. But there's nothing.

He had a sister. And even if she survived the Calamity, he'd never get to meet her. By now, she would be dead.

Knowing is...painful. This is true. And yet, not knowing wouldn't have really been a kindness at all, because not knowing was painful too.

"Do you know how old...?" he asks.

Was his sister younger than him? Older? Around the same age?

A younger sister. Someone he was meant to look out for, meant to protect.

His chest feels strange. Numb.

"But...my father? You knew him?" She must have. If she'd heard him talk about his children...

"Impa knew him?"

Somehow, it hadn't occurred to Link that Impa might have known his family. But...he should ask her. When they get home.

"Did...did you know his name?"

"...Arn," Link says softly. Is it...familiar? Does it spark any kind of memory, any deep-rooted association?

He's not sure. Maybe he needs more than a name, to really remember. But he'll make sure never to forget it again, now he knows it.

Then he looks back at Zelda.

"Don't say that," he says. "You saved me."

He lost all his memories, yes. But the only other option was death. She shouldn't apologise for making that choice, not ever.

"Not your fault." Never her fault. Zelda had done everything she could, and Link knew that because he was there to witness it.

"You're...you're why I remember anything at all." Almost every memory he had was thanks to his connection to her. Her voice, her pictures.

From the moment he woke up, she'd been his lifeline. Even when he didn't know it.

She shouldn't beat herself up so much. Waking up a hundred years in the future was always going to be hard, memories or no memories. It was just the hand fate had dealt him.

And it didn't compare to the hand fate dealt her either.

"You've already done more than enough," he says softly. She saved him with her power, brought him back from death. Gave him a purpose. "You...you don't need to give more, Zelda."

Link hums softly. Not quite sure how to respond, what reassurance he can give. But he understands why Zelda feels that way. He saw personally how she was never allowed to stop.

His fingers twitch. He wants to reach out to her. But such an action would feel...presumptuous. Too much. Not something he can assume Zelda would appreciate.

Maybe if he just...lets his hand rest on the mattress, palm facing up as he sits on it. Between them. Where it can just...be there, in case Zelda feels like taking it.

If she wants to.

"Can I help?" he asks.

Link tenses, just briefly, when she leans against her shoulder - an instinctive reaction of surprise.

He...he hadn't expected her to do that. Hadn't expected her to lean right up against him, her head on his shoulder. She's warm.

She's trying not to think about using him for support - but all Link wants to do is be her support. He wants to hold her hand and always let her lean on him.

He doesn't hold her hand. He's still not bold enough for that. But...he leans his head, just gently, on top of hers.
