Here She Comes

I. Beat The Heat? | Temba Fountain

There's nothing that is even remotely nice about her arrival. Here she is, tired, grieving, freaked out about everything going on at home, and BAM! Wake up in a damn fountain. Her clothes are dripping now, her hair is limper than Steve's without his expensive hair spray, and it's blisteringly hot. Oh, and did she mention she woke up with her bicycle on her? Which she was now having a hell of a time lifting over the edge of the fountain?

Okay, it wasn't that it was too heavy. But it WAS fucking awkward and her hands were slippery and...

"Oh Fuck you!" she curses as she loses her grip again and the bicycle splashes back into the water.

II. That's Not What I Expected | Temba Hangar

"Oh you have GOT to be kidding me."

Aliens. She was kidnapped by ALIENS, and she didn't even get to see the space ships that were supposed to be here? She's biked all the way over here, over the literally worst roads ever, had to carry her bike around massive cracks and rubble, and tried awkwardly to follow the weird map on her little 'pocket computer' and this was what she got?

"Come on!" she shouts into the hangar. "Aliens have space ships! I want to see the space ships!"

III. Give Me A Break! | Temba Hotel

It's been such a stupidly long day. The fountain. The empty hangar. The diner she was at earlier and had met people at. And now this.

"Why?" Robin asks as she looks at the stairs. They're taller than they should be. She looks from them to the bicycle she had at her side. It was bad enough that she was going to have to go up them. But she was tired and upset and confused and now she had to carry this thing up them too? "What sort of hotel doesn't have rooms on the bottom floor? This is the worst design!"

"Idiots keep opening it back up!" Robin says, distressed. That's the cause of literally all her problems.

And friends she's lost.

Omega jumps a bit at that, eyes widening a little. "O-oh...." Well, that does make things difficult to deal with if things are being done intentionally for whatever reason.

[work_wife]

Yeah, it really was. Robin takes a deep breath.

"There are people who just want the power from the place, but they don't understand it will kill us. It's really scary."

[small_compromise]

That sounds very concerning. "If there's one thing I know, it's that things usually don't work out very well for someone whenever people get power hungry," she frowns. "What sort of power does a place like that even have? If it's evil and has things that want to kill you, that sounds like the last sort of thing anyone should want to involve themselves with."

[work_wife]

"Monsters," she says with a shrug. "That they want to use as weapons. Which is a bad choice. Because they just want to kill."

Which was so bad. Stupid Russians. Stupid American government.

[small_compromise]

Omega suddenly looks uneasy. The concept isn't entirely a new one to her.

"I'm sorry to hear that. Is your world at war?"

[work_wife]

"Yes," Robin sighs. "Has been basically for all of my life. It hasn't been very active thought. They call it a Cold War because there's no active violence but lots of spies and sabotage and threats."

[small_compromise]

"My galaxy's been at war too," Omega says quietly. "My brothers are all soldiers who fought for the Republic. But the war ended not too long ago. Things should be better, but...it's not. A lot of things changed."

[work_wife]

"Peace will be nice," she says, because the girl deserves that. Because all kids deserve peace.

Hell, Robin wants peace.

[small_compromise]

"What's it like?" She hasn't really thought about it. And her brothers are soldiers so she's just come to accept that some people are just used to fighting, and she wants to be just like them. Unfortunately her brothers haven't had much experience with peace either, being literally made for war.

[work_wife]

That's a question if there ever was one. Robin takes it seriously though. Considers long and hard.

"It's quiet I think. And people aren't scared of losing their lives over really big stuff that isn't their fault? But it's also sorta restrictive when I am. Since there isn't this big bad thing to fear, fear gets turned back on ourselves."

[small_compromise]

Omega frowns thoughtfully. "It used to sort of be like that on Kamino, even if it was full of soldiers. But it was quiet and a lot of the time I was left alone. But I didn't like it."

But she'd never really feared for her life then, and it wasn't until recently that she'd started to get concerned.

[work_wife]

"Yeah, being alone can be bad," she agrees with a sad sigh. She was alone here too, wasn't she?

She didn't know yet that Steve and Eddie were here. She felt alone.

"You're not alone now though, right? I mean, maybe not your brothers, but other people are here for you."

[small_compromise]

That makes her smile a little, and she nods.

"That's true. I've made a lot of friends here, so it's not all bad." She tilts her head up at the other girl. "I'm Omega. We can be friends too, if you want."

[work_wife]

"Robin," she says with a smile, moving to reach out and offer her hand to Omega. "I'd really like that. Never hurts to have more friends. Even young ones."

She learned that a lot recently.

Omega grins, taking Robin's hand in a handshake. "I completely agree!" It certainly makes things less lonely.

[work_wife]

Plus, you know, female friends are always welcome. She smiles and shakes right back.

"Good. I could use some friends."
