Beyond the Boundaries

WHO: Dustin, Felwinter and Link
WHERE: Westward, ho!
WHAT: Felwinter finds himself in...interesting company as he finally sets out for a long put off expedition beyond Temba's city limits.
WHEN: Later this month
WARNINGS: N/A

Organic beings needed preparations, supplies, for a trip. Felwinter remembered these things when he contacted Dustin. 'Star roof', probably wasn't much of a message, but he knew Dustin would understand. He left a more detailed message there, penned and folded under a rock: 'I plan to set out in five days' time. If you wish to join me then pack accordingly and comm your confirmation. Several days out and then back, unless we find any reason to extend our venture. If you have anyone you trust to come along, then so be it.'

He wondered if he was being too generous.

Link would once again find himself under much scrutiny by the helmet-wearing warlord. This time they're at least not on a rooftop, but the mood is probably very much the same. Again, there are questions, and again, Felwinter isn't certain where to even begin. Or rather, he knows what to ask, but he has a feeling that he's better off not knowing. That unseen gaze shifts to Dustin with the impending sense of a query and yet none forthcoming.

And then finally, Felwinter turns, shouldering his pack as he starts on towards the city's outskirts, pausing to cast an expectant look at the two as it seems he's going to accept this extra company after all.

Not really a species thing. Just a Link thing.

There's a few times in the night where Link briefly wakes - when Felwinter returns and stands under his tree, when Dustin starts covering up the campfire, when the howls of distance creatures disturb the night. But he falls back to sleep soon enough, all the way through until the break of dawn.

At which point, Link drops down from the tree. Says, "Hi," to Felwinter. And then promptly starts working on breakfast. He found a few bird's eggs in his tree, so they're in luck - they can have omelets.

Dustin is awake slightly before dawn - now because he wants to be, but because he's so damn sore that he can't stay asleep. Hiking plus sleeping on a bed of leaf litter and a couple blankets equals A Bad Time, and though Dustin anticipated this would happen, that doesn't make it any more tolerable when it does. He looks like a dead man walking when he eventually limps his way out of the forest and into the center of camp.

"Hnng," Dustin groans, in lieu of an actual greeting, then slumps to the ground by the campfire where Link is cooking with an audible wince. All of his supplies are already with him, in his backpack, which he shrugs to his side in...exactly the same position he was in the night before, actually.

He'll just. Curl up here for a while, until he has some food.

In contrast, Link is perhaps irritatingly awake. He doesn't look sleepy at all, and he is - once again - humming cheerfully as he cooks.

Thankfully, it's not long before a plate of omelettes are being shoved into Dustin's face. Then Link looks at Felwinter.

Sure, he'd said he didn't need food. But...maybe he'd like some, anyway? Look at the omelettes he just made! They turned out so good. Surely Felwinter will want one anyway, even if he doesn't need it?
