Indictment

WHO: Absolutely everyone.
WHERE: The diner.
WHAT: A decision has to made about threats to the community.
WHEN: After an attempted murder, a chaotic rescue, and an awkward reunion. Now.
WARNINGS: Nothing yet. Mark it if something comes up because...
NOTES: Structurally, this is a mingle, so you can decide what part of this is actually important to you. What you talk about in here doesn't have to be directly Beck-related, but for details about the incident, further organizing, and if you want to determine what your characters might have done/seen/heard in the meantime, this post is still good!

[NETWORK//text @ everyone]
Come to the diner. We have to talk.
If you don't show up, I'll assume you agree with me because you're incredibly intelligent and graceful. The city of Temba thanks you for your contribution to our justice system.

This was the last thing Tony wanted to do. The diner at least felt familiar, neutral--somewhere he could be in control, without having all of the attention on him. Being able to bask in the attention would have been so much easier. As it was, that felt like he would be inviting everyone to really examine the cracks in the armor. They were here because he had already lost control.

As if that didn't already feel enough like an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, Tony found himself standing in a circle of seats that he had arranged, the tables pushed up against the walls, and couldn't honestly say how much that had been intentional. He raised a lip, and looked to Felwinter as though he would have any illuminating insight about productive interior design. He seemed like he wanted to be here even less than Tony did. Beck was his charge for the time being, though, and as awkward as it was to stand in his stupid chair-circle with the pair of them, Tony did appreciate having Felwinter there to keep an eye on their...problem. Even if having witnesses to his restless energy made it all the more humiliating. Felwinter couldn't sit on Beck forever just to make sure he didn't lure anyone else off the edge of a cliff, so they were all going to have to survive a little humiliation.

"I think the coffee's done," Tony declared, with absolutely no idea what state the coffee was actually in and readily moving toward the kitchen regardless. "Do you want one? I'll get you one. Do you do that sort of...?" He was still talking, and what Felwinter did or didn't eat and drink might have otherwise been something Tony pushed him about, but he was already mentally in the kitchen and trailed off as he went, flapping a hand to wave off any refusal of his offer or explanation about Felwinter's digestive situation. Maybe he would just stay in the kitchen and listen, let Beck hang himself.

Tony took a deep breath, pushing his sunglasses up his nose and squaring his shoulders, readying himself for a performance.

York scowls back. Cal maybe the exception here, since - at least this one with the glasses - seems no better than the humans back home. The android came to this meeting to see what was going on and the kind of people he was living around. Two days wasn't really a lot to work with on that front.

"Yeah, it's a meeting because person b tried to kill person t." He didn't know about this 'hole' they were talking about, that's for certain. "A hole is a hollow spot in a surface so like, what? Ten feet? I've been here all of like, two days. Maybe Tony did something that pissed Beck off and warranted it?"
beholding_archivist: (Don't make me force you.)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2022-04-05 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"You have been here for two days and the first thing you do is challenge me to trade encyclopedic definitions of holes. Are you happier if we call it a pit?" The expression on Jon's face doesn't change. Maybe they should just throw this kid into this hollow spot in the surface of this planet.

"Semantics aside, I doubt anything Tony may have done validates attempting to simply dispose of him any any trace of his existence on the network."
buildingitsir: (fuck off; silently pissy)

[personal profile] buildingitsir 2022-04-05 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"I mean I could if you wanted. I'm trying to make sure I'm understanding right because what apparently is defined as a hole here isn’t the same as where I'm from." York wants to lash out, feeling all of those emulated emotions just bubbling around and threatening the surface.

York thinks of Jericho. Of the nights he spent hanging out with others like him, or lashing out at breakable objects in room just for him. Of speeches made by Markus calling for peace. There’s a long stretch of silence before the android pulls his hoodie back on and crosses arms over his chest. He looks like a skulking teenager now, but keeps from lashing out at least.

"…That we know of maybe. Isn't that really what the meeting is for then?"
beholding_archivist: (Stop leaning on me)

Deciding to ignore any further dispute about holes and pit, Jon settles on a one-sided shrug. "I know precisely what happened. And had the decision been up to me, Mr. Beck would not be in this room today."

Jon tends to be more pragmatic in his problem solving.
buildingitsir: (slight pout)

[personal profile] buildingitsir 2022-04-06 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe you - or we maybe - should chuck Beck into the pit then." York moved to sit on the table against the wall again with arms still crossed on his chest with a surly look. It was like Cal told him: 'Humans...can be monsters anywhere. Some will turn on their own.'

Maybe this time it would be warranted.

"No jail here right?" York checks the device map. "I guess even if there was he’d be able to find a way out."
beholding_archivist: (Could you just not?)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2022-04-06 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"My suggestion from the start." A clean and easy solution. "No one would have been terribly torn up over his disappearance and we wouldn't all be gathered here."

At the mention of a jail, Jon snorts a harsh little laugh. "A jail without a justice system. Right. This city lies in ruins and we are forced to coexist. Best option for a jail- Or maybe rather a time out zone would be to drop him off on that island Tommy discovered. It'd take him a while to build a raft to paddle back over and then? I'd hope he would have learned his lesson."
buildingitsir: (mischievious;here to fuck your shit up)

[personal profile] buildingitsir 2022-04-06 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"One less human to meet for certain," he scoffed. "Just like 'boop' once and done." York wouldn't be sad about a human he didn't know that did terrible things just going... missing.

"Great, no justice system here. I know that now, thanks. There's a lot of information from that datapoint by the fountain. Probably got lost in alllll of that." It's hard not to be sassy at humans. It really is. So York doesn't try a lot of the time.

Better than being angry at least.

"Islands here too? Man you guys have it kinda made here. Islands, city in ruins, murderers, what more could I ask for being brought here. But the idea of dropping him off on an island sounds pretty good."
beholding_archivist: (Unimpressed)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2022-04-07 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Jon can't help a little scoff. "Of everything we know about the Agrii, they may have never required something equaling a justice system. And they are the ones that left these data points hundreds of years ago." Though Jon still harbors certain doubts after having met the Agrii.

Of course he notices the boy's very clear dislike for humans. And while he can feel a certain fear on him, it's a different type of fear. And while this might all be quite intriguing to learn more about, this isn't quite the right time or place to do so.

"You may complain all you want, but fundamentally that won't improve your situation unless you're willing to work towards said improvements. And acting like a bloody prick around those you meet here won't exactly make your time here easier as well." It's a rather small community after all. And Beck here? Is the best example of how things can turn bad.
buildingitsir: (over shoulder look; wait what)

[personal profile] buildingitsir 2022-04-07 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe something that might need to be put into works after this. Like the Old West in those antique movies." He made his own scoffing noise complete with an eyeroll. "Or maybe there's Justice information in one of those points." York obviously didn't know since he didn't go around touching things like that yet.

He makes a face at the remark of being a prick. "Is it really complaint or just an observation that people take offense to? At least I've got 'not a murderer' going for me here. I'd rather fry my brain in water if I emulated that kind of human." Even if acting like a jerk didn't make York any friends, at least that would feel more like home for him.
beholding_archivist: Do not take. Thanks. (You can't prove anything)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2022-04-07 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Knock yourself out." The Archivist invites with a shrug. He sees little need to keep this kid from attempting something nonsensical. Though he also doesn't feel any need to inform him about all the reasons why trying this is doomed to fail from the very beginning.

"It's a common reaction to rude behavior to have a negative impression of an individual. Remember how you stalked in here, planted your ass on a surface other people will later be eating from, no greeting, no introduction, but demands and judgement right at the ready." There's a short pause before Jon adds: "Please stay out of my library, thank you."
buildingitsir: (come down here so i can yell at you)

[personal profile] buildingitsir 2022-04-07 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Planted my ass on a surface that's going to be wiped down afterwards when everything's put back. And this ordeal isn't about me, but I was part of the invite, so I came to see what the fuck was going on. Which doesn't warrant an introduction I think but you do you."

Arms cross over his chest. "Probably not an impressive library anyways." He hops off the table, the scowl twisting more on his face. "Fuck this meeting man," comes the under the breath mumbling. There were too many people in here. No need to stay and rile others up more. So he shoves the diner door open and heads out, not caring or knowing if slammed in his wake.
