Caves
So, hey, this was a thing. Tommy hadn't meant to, yanno, cover the whole damn place in mint. None of the species were supposed to be that bad, right? Not the earth ones. Maybe it was something about this world. What he knew is that he felt like shit on Friday morning. And then a lot more relaxed as he woke and found his way along the path on Saturday, a blur of motion and a whoop of joy as he found the ocean. Of course he took the moment to take credit before starting to explore. Not in the waves, not at all. No, Tommy instead heads along the shore until he finds a cave.
Tommy never would have considered his power related to energy, which is a mistake. If he had, he might have thought twice when he was using his phone as a light and it was SO bright. Then again, he wouldn't have put two and two together anyway. Just mused how it was interesting that the tunnel kept getting brighter rather than darker the further in he went. And if he had a sense of time like that of a normal human, he'd definitely have noticed how weird it was that the tunnel was passing by so quickly. As it was, Tommy was rushing through the caves at a break-neck pace, his hair shining with a soft white glow, and in the air behind him there was a lingering after image of white-green light. A pale mint trailing after him. Amusing, right?
So Tommy darts around, building up a charge, and not realizing that he might not be alone.
Beach
His body is screaming with energy, and there is so much that Tommy wants to do. He's well fed and he feels like he can take on the world. Probably can actually. He's got energy here, too much energy. Which means only one thing. Time for some damn FUN. He moves quickly, a burst of pale-mint colored light racing over the water, over the waves. And, when he realizes that there's a serious trail of light following him, Tommy's soon drawing patterns all over the waves, enjoying the way the light lingers and the shapes follow after him. His fingers trace his name in the air like the residual light of a sparkler, and his laughter follows him easily.
Then there he is, back on the shore, sparks dancing off his feet and hitting the sand, not that he notices. Instead he's busy chasing after the lobster-like creatures. Could probably eat those, right?
And when it's all done the young man, hair shining with an undeniable pale white light, eyes glowing green, stretched out on the sand and considering the sky. Nice. New thought, more time in the cave, because he's been feeling amazing ever since he went there.

And then, "Does it hurt?"
no subject
"Yeah, that one. And it didn't hurt at all. I just, I dont' know, itch?"
no subject
"Huh," is what Bucky says again, sounding thoughtful. Not hurting is good, but it's not always indicative of things being perfectly fine and safe, in the long run.
And he isn't sure this'll get him any more info, but he does ask, "Did it do anything to you, other than the light show?"
no subject
Or to run through anything by phasing. Another thing he doesn’t care to try.
no subject
Bucky considers all that, but, "Yeah, maybe hold off on that one."
The last thing any of them wants is Tommy half-stuck in something. Or something half-stuck in him. Either way, it sounds unappealing.
Bucky takes a deep breath, looking back to the caves. "Sounds like something worth checking out. You wanna go back in, or are you good being a human sparkler out here?"
no subject
"You got something you need exploded?"
Because Tommy's not about to blow up useful things.
no subject
"Not on me," Bucky admits, although he casts around, then takes the couple of steps necessary to pick up a weird-ass looking shell, about the size of his palm, from just at the water's edge. "This, maybe?"
But, "Don't try if it's a bad idea. I mean it."
no subject
Then there will be a bit of an issue, won't there? Explosions are issues.
no subject
Bucky nods, because when someone tells him to stay back - well, he stays back. He also hefts the shield off his back and onto one arm, because it's there and he's going to keep it between him and any potential explosions. Just in case.
When he's in a defensive stance, he glances to Tommy and nods. "You hurt yourself, kid, and I'll be really disappointed."
no subject
"I can typically outrun my own explosions. And if I get hurt, you message Billy, okay? He can maybe fix it. I don't know for sure. This place has done weird things to our mutations and his magic."
Tommy takes a deep breath. This isn't going to work, right? It can't work. But he has to give himself a chance. Has to believe. His hands raise before him and in a second they're vibrating so fast that they are a blur to the human eye. Must be uncomfortable to look at, like someone turned JUST his hands and fingers to a full on blur filter, distorting not only them, but the air before him. Sand is kicked around, vibrating and shaking into a distinctive ripple pattern, because it's just falling in with the waves of his power. And then the shell starts to shiver.
Starts to blur.
And with a loud bang it breaks apart, exploding outward. No fire, no real destructive force, but Tommy whoops in delight anyway. Sure, it won't LAST because like hell they'd actually DONE anything to this planet to give him the power back. In fact, when he raises his hands to look at them his glow is almost entirely gone.
"Guess I blew pretty much all of whatever charge that cave gave me."
no subject
It's not an unimpressive sight. In fact, it's almost hard to follow, even for him; it sort of makes him feel like he's starting to get double vision but then, just as it ramps up into headache-inducing frequency - it's over. And so is that shell.
Bucky definitely blinks, but he's grinning a little, even as Tommy's whooping for joy. "Well. I guess that means it works," he says, lowering the shield and maybe giving the mutant a quick once-over, just to make sure nothing does appear wrong.
"I guess you could always go back in?" he suggests, glancing toward the entrance again. "I was gonna check it out anyway." Although he gets it if Tommy wants some downtime - even if that doesn't exactly seem in the kid's nature.
no subject
"Normally I blow things a LOT faster than that, but this is nice," Tommy grins, trying to hold back from bouncing on his feet a little in excitement. "Something in the storms here just fucks with me, you know? I don't even know if I can go as fast as I normally can, even with whatever that cave did to me. Can't get enough food to really test it out. I don't want to screw over everyone else's chances at good and easy food to glut myself how I'd have to before and after."
Still, he doesn't think more explosions are in his future. Though exploring the cave more might be fun. Alone.
"I don't think you wanna go in there with me, actually. When I ran into Billy there I was talking too fast. Lost track of the speed of normal people."
