Time For A Moment Of Joy [OTA Birthday Mingle]

It's a surprise party. The word is spread around quietly in the background, passed by word of mouth and private messages into inboxes. Where it spreads beyond those initial invitees has a lot to do with how much people are trying to hide the work they're doing to help Lauri-Ell and Wanda. Word of mouth can easily outstrip intention of course, so there was nothing to say that everyone won't show up at the former store turned residence in time to join the party.

There's definitely a nod to decorations, in the form of colorful flowers and woven streamers of leaves settled with feathers, and and even bits of wrapping paper that Lauri had discovered somewhere and didn't understand the proper use of.

A variety of foods, put together by friends and others who care for the twins are laid out on tables that were carried in for the event, and in the corner stands a karaoke machine that had been hiding in Billy's room. That way they've got food and entertainment covered. Even a few bottles of various spirits and juices have been liberated from the diner and even filled from the orange-drink dispensers on a ship. How much of a party it is, though, will depend on the other guests and whether they bring other treats or entertainment to make it a true celebration. Lauri, after all, barely knows anything about human celebrations.

Noctis wasn't sure that he completely understood what Tommy was talking about, but he nodded sympathetically.

His own birthday here had gone quiet and unnoticed, just the way he liked it though he had missed the guys teasing him. He missed cake too along with presents and every year they organized something different.

"Parties are good for socialization."

"Man, you sound like Billy's mom like that," Tommy laughed, shaking his head.

Damn shrink. But this dude clearly wasn't that.

"You make it sound like this is, like, a homeowrk assignment or something."

Noctis shook his head with a laugh. The only time he thought he ever sounded like a parent was when he'd spoken to Talcott when he'd first gotten out of the crystal. The boy was still tearing himself up about his grandfather and Noct simply set the boy's mind to rest.

However at hearing the last part he had to laugh. "In places like this, it kind of can be. We're all in this together at least for right now while we're here. So parties have the ability to mix different people up and get them to meet if the might not have otherwise."

"Dude, are you about to turn into one of those people who say 'my friends are my power'?" he asked, frowning at Noctis. Because while Tommy GETS THAT is true, but man, he doesn't need the 'friendship' speech right now.

Noctis lightly placed his hand on Tommy's shoulder, but just as quickly removed it. That phrase used by the other was something he'd never heard of, but it really was true. He didn't battle as well as he did with his friends by his side.

However, he wasn't going to put any of that on the boy. "Go enjoy your party and don't listen to an old man."

"What, you expect me to neglect the guests I didn't even invite over to my place?" Tommy asked, grinning widely.

Surely he should be a good host, right?

He laughed. "If you're hanging out with other people, I promise I won't feel neglected." Tommy had hit him hard with the odd phrase but he wouldn't say as much. So he'd just stay for a little longer and then head home, back to an empty place.

"Dude, that wouldn't even begin to be neglect," Tommy answered. Of that he was certain.

"For being here, I feel like I owe you your own birthday party."

Noctis shook his head, knowing he wasn't going to deter Tommy even though he really was trying here.

As for the other matter, he laughed slightly. "Ya, it was two months ago. It's just a year older when you get to be my age."

Oh come on, how could the guy have denied them the chance to party?

Well, okay, it made sense. But still.

"How old even are you, Noctipus?"

"Just turned thirty one." Noctis smiled. He wasn't a party person at all in any stretch of the imagination. But that day he had really missed the guys from home and just ended up fishing for hours trying hard not to think about them.
