Well, it's kinda complicated. Because for one thing, Jedi can be just about any species, and for another, the Order was part of a bigger society with its own laws and customs, right? Lots of laws and customs, really, because the Republic and then the Empire, was so many planets and species.

So - really short version. I'm human, mostly, probably. A really common age for humans to be recognized as adults is 18, which is my current age. But I'm still a Padawan, under Jedi customs. I'm not really considered a full fledged Jedi, able to take my own students, until I'm knighted.

Yes, I remember this. Cere performed some ritual to call Cal a Jedi Knight. [ Her voice sounds thoughtful. She didn't really understand what was happening at the time, so she appreciates the context now. ]

How is it decided if you are ready?

Traditionally, there were five components to the Trials - Skill, Courage, Spirit, Flesh, Insight. And the trials could be, um, constructed? And completed in the safety of the temple, that way. But they could be completed by experiences outside the temple, too.

Master Kenobi was knighted after he defeated the Sith that killed his master.
