001- I WANT to know what's going on?

Who: Billy Kaplan and OPEN
What: Exploring the power plant, the hotel, and being sick
When: First few days on Agra 10
Where: The power plant, and the hotel
Warnings: N/A will edit as needed.

The Power Plant

Because of course Billy Kaplan would immediately head away from safety and towards possible danger. Not that the weird squirrel like things are proving too much of a hazard, but he is getting pretty far from town. The path isn't too difficult to manage, but he does have the advantage of floating lazily over any fallen debris or dangers.

His feet return to the ground as he finds the power plant, head tilting curiously as he sets out to explore. There's a bunch of tools, and some strange crystal things, none of which seem of much use until he find the data point. He hesitates a moment before giving into the urge to touch it, shivering at the strange sensation and the sudden knowledge that follows.

The Hotel

Despite how run down everything is, Billy feels wrong about approaching the stores as a means of shelter. Of course, the hotel practically screams 'you-might-get-murdered-here' but beggars can't be chooser, and he's reasons maybe they'll actually be some kind of bed. His magic isn't working so great, the less he has the conjure up the better.

He tries to get handle on the layout, exploring a few floors before finding a room that seems to be more or less empty. Of people or animals that is. What it is full of is debris. Trash, broken furniture, some stuff he doesn't want to examine too closely.

While he's still got a bit of light to work with he tries to clear the worst of it out.

The Contagion

It's slow to hit him, but Billy eventually has to admit he isn't feeling great, and it's not just his powers being weaker than usual. He's hot, and sore, and increasingly paranoid, which makes it rather difficult to get him to listen to reason and stay put.

He keeps leaving his room, too sick to make it anywhere in particular but sure he needs to get out of there, suspicious of anyone who tries to approach him.

Delta smirks a little. "I have what could be considered intimate knowledge of electricity, but you are correct; this system appears to have been designed in a user-friendly way. But we may need to get the power plant into a functional state in order to effectively recharge the crystals. We should use them judiciously until then."

But there are enough screens and devices here that look like they could be investigated for more on the operation of this place that using the crystals judiciously should be pretty easy.

Also, there are a lot of them. Delta makes his way over to the stash and picks one up, judging the heft and looking at it closely.

"It is a different style of power source than I have ever used, but it does seem straightforward."

Not the same way at all, really. Delta used to be made of the stuff.

He nods, looking satisfied. "Agreed. Perhaps we could meet back here with our findings and compare information? Although until there is a reliable way to record our findings, they will have to be kept in our memories."

He really doesn't look it at the moment. Thanks a lot, evil corporate overlords of the last place he was stuck. Still, if they can get some kind of network going, he can try to interface with the local systems and get stuff done a lot faster than trying to type by hand.

But first things first. Power's gotta turn on.

"Yes, although if I should find anything, I will be sure to share it with you. If we must make marks on the walls with charcoal until we find a better recording solution, so be it."

Billy, you are now Delta's best friend. His eyes simply light up and he grins happily, taking the pen and paper. "Fascinating. This will be very useful. Thank you."

And then, of course, the inevitable: "Is that a technique others would be capable of learning?"

Too bad - it would be quite useful, and Loki had said he thought Delta could do magic. But maybe his Asgardian-style math-based magic is different than this kind of conjuring. Who knows? There's nothing like either of them where Delta's from.

"It is fortunate that it is only hampered rather than blocked entirely," he notes. "But as I doubt you are capable of summoning my boyfriend, this will do nicely for the time being."

Throw a couple of alternate uses in there (Delta comes from a strictly science-based world, no matter how advanced the technology gets sometimes) and the possibilities, while not quite endless, are nonetheless vast enough that he's curious about everything.

Delta nods, unsurprised. "Jack would be uncomfortable with the lack of a dome over this city, regardless. Without him, the job of network administrator is one that will likely fall to me, if we can establish a network. It would most certainly be useful to have a means of communication that did not rely on messages left at the fountain."

Has Delta mentioned he's from the twenty-sixth century? No, no he hasn't. But either way, the dome served an interesting purpose: "It was a defense against an airborne pathogen that had been engineered for a war some twenty years ago. They had been making relatively little progress against the dysthrophy virus, and in response brought many of us from different worlds in hopes we would be immune; indeed, we were called the Immune rather than the, ah, 'He Rows'."

It's still hard not to think of this group as Immune, though. There's a lot in common. Delta rubs the back of his neck and then, after a moment's hesitation, points out the Matrix-like ports along his spine that he usually covers with hair. "They modified us to help resist the virus as well."

But the cell phone is a good distraction, and his eyes light up with interest at it. It's not an OS he's familiar with, but it doesn't seem that different from some archaic programming languages at first glance. "If a network is restored, it is probable I can write an app to make your device compatible with it," he observes. A smile tugs at his lips. "I am intimately familiar with computer programs."

Delta makes a face. "I do not know that it hurts any differently than the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to. There is a great deal about being embodied that I do not care for."

It was a lot easier when he was just a computer program, okay? But the expression clears and he nods, looking interested.

"Yes. Interfacing with alien technology was always a primary concern for us at home."

He snorts lightly. "It is not all it is cracked up to be."

And then he smiles in return. "I would like that."
